So here's the duality of this roster, it's not a terrible top 9 by any stretch:

Lafrenière-Zibanejad-Kakko
Panarin-Chytil-Kravtsov
Kreider/Barron-Goodrow-Blais

The problem isn't what we're constructing, it's the price we're paying for materials.

Curious, does Gallant normally roll 3 or 4 lines?

I agree. Id rather have Blais than Reaves, if we are talking straight up roster construction.
Not even close. Reaves is gonna be 35 soon. Blais is more than capable of playing the role he needs to play.
But hey if we trade Strome for Reaves and a 4th then Drury has really gone off the deep end.

Buch was extremely overrated and has clearly stagnated as a player. I never liked the guy and felt he was so inconsistent that I could never have given him a long term contract. I’m not going to miss him for a second. He’s a classic, not good enough to be a top 6 forward but to skilled to be a bottom 6 player. The Rangers roster will be more solid not having these types around and they can finally “slot guys into roles”— something Drury said he wanted to do from day 1!

So... Strome is gone?

The Rangers are identifying the right kind of players but paying an exorbitant kind of price for them. Its like people paying 80K over market value for a house when it wont be worth that in the future because the market is booming right now

The only positive I guess is Kravy and Kakko should see a lot more icetime and hopefully some pp time. Hopefully.Blais and Goodrow should not get in the way of that.
The key now is to not trade away any of our young players! NONE.

Agreed. No more trading kids.

If that means no Eichel then so be it.

Blais is going to be a fantastic 4th liner for us who can slot up. He's got a bomb of a shot and he's a menace. But he's still a grinder. The difference in value between Blais and Buch is way more than a 2nd. Hell, it's more than a mid 1st.

Moreover, I'm just sad about this one. I knew Buch was 99% going to be a goner, but I loved him and thought that we'd package him and the return would lessen the pain of losing him. I love what Blais brings, but this one hurts.

THE GREAT CUP WINNER SAMMY BLIAS.......who didn't even appear in the playoffs until the 6th game of the 2nd round and had the lowest time on ice of anybody on the team that played more than 10 games for the Blues that playoffs.

Goodrow going to lose some of his Stanley Cup story time in the locker room.

I initally thought Blais would be a 4th liner..

I guess we'll see once the dust settles.

Panarin Chytil Kravtsov
Lafreniere Zibs Kakko
Kreider Goodrow Gauthier??
Barron Roonery Blais

Don't get me wrong. I REALLY like Sammy Blais. He will make the game fun to watch. But the value of this deal will forever outweigh what he brings to the table.

ridiculous- nice player but not for a first line 26 yr old winger. Don’t understand the hurry either.

I agree that he maybe was a tad overrated and inconsistent but he had not stagnated. This was his best season.

stagnating with career highs and becoming a defensive and PK specialist. Next you're going to tell me Brittany stagnated with Hit Me Baby One More Time.

Stagnated? He literally broke out this past season. Was a completely progressed player....... He's not elite in any way. And I agree, I have never been a huge fan. But suggesting he was anything but "very very good" this past season is ridiculous.

You could argue that a 2nd next year is a mid 1st.

Next year's draft is a cavalcade of future Hall of Famers. Any chance to take a flier on it is good.

I'll guess they see the 14 goals and 28 points in his last 76 and are banking on him slotting into a third line role.

Now whether that is prudent, or worth what we gave up, is a perfectly understandable debate.
