Stand pat seems like the obvious answer right now. The only way Don has a chance of not getting fleeced in a deal is if he deals with another desperate team, ie Oilers, Kings, Blues or Pens at this moment. I wouldn’t hold my breath. Let the kids show what they’ve got.

I agree, last year we saw similar injuries and the boys hung on, those injured players came back and once things settled down, we saw the team play terrific hockey, scoring was a problem last year around this time too with the D getting killed injury-wise. Once this team has it`s full or almost full compliment of regular D-men, I think we`ll see the scoring go up

If I’m Don Sweeney this is the exact moment I go after another center. Let krejci play on the first line, go get someone who can fill in for krejci on the 2nd line then once Bergeron comes back they all shift back down a line and you have your 3rd line center.

What does Taylor Hall cost us? New Jersey's currently 28th in the league and I don't think Hall is looking at a long term future in Jersey.

Injuries are extreme right now on defense but outside of that we need to stop talking about “the healthy roster” like its a realistic expectation for any large stretch of time.

I can't imagine their staying in the race without Chara and all of those other D-men and especially without Bergeron. 4-6 weeks is a terribly long period in the middle of an NHL season especially when you're milling your captain and assistant captain. Sooner or later a move has to come or they're going to lose so much ground by January it'll be impossible to make up. If they can't pull someone up from Providence to fill the void and they can't make a trade then it's game over by the first week in January.

No way it’s a lost season

This is when you measure what you have on defense and forward

He will be back by Christmas most likely

I’m excited to see exactly what we got

105 points

What is this comfortable being bridesmaid ****

Toughen up man

Tough to lose Bergeron (and Chara) but the upside is more young players get a chance to impress (e.g. Lauzon) and the organization knows more about their assets at the NHL level.

To get him now it would take A LOT. He's still got one year left on his deal after this year, is the reigning MVP and currently playing this year at a P/GP pace. If I had to take a blind stab at it...

Think about what Panarin would get and then add another 2-3 pieces with solid value. Without giving up Carlo or McAvoy, I'd imagine something like...

DeBrusk + Studnicka/Frederic + Vaak/Lauzon/Gryz + 1st rounder

^Even this might not be enough make NJD think about it.

I have to wonder how does it look...

debrusk, studknica. vaakananen, first rounder for adam Larsson?

if hall does get moved its likely he will go for less than fans expect

seguin did... karlsson did... subban did...

usually when these very highly reguarded {but also very highly paid} young superstars get paid... everyone says the price was cheap and their own team should have gotten in on the deal

but its always the contract that is the kicker. usually theres a reason the original team is trying to move these players and whatever that reason is make the next team a little leary of overpaying for the guy with a rich offer of assets

Feels like the worse time to go get a center. Teams would have the Bruins over a barrel.

Debacle?

Spooner already traded with salary retained by Rangers

Lindgren in AHL on third pair

You should go read the trades you propose

Debacle would be kind

I'll play devil's advocate and say that we could've snagged Joe Veleno with that late first round pick

But such is life

I mean in fairness, PC botched the Seguin trade and the Hall trade lol.

The Karlsson trade value was less expected, but then again Karlsson had a 10 team no trade list and OTT refused to trade him to an East team. I mean with those two things, how many teams honestly were out there lol.

I'm not really sure why the Subban deal is listed. I mean Subban netted a guy who finished top 4 in the Norris voting for 4 of his last 6 years before being traded. Even in his first year, Weber managed 42 points while playing 78 games and finished 6th in the Norris voting. Now of course things went downhill start last year, but that wasn't something anyone saw coming.

They could have also still taken Andersson still. IIRC, reports were that Boston had a 1st round grade on him. Then again this is no different than going down the rabbit hole of coulda, woulda, shoulda in drafts.
