Kind of just a fun thought but imagine if the Rangers made Grabner available at the TDL...and we went with Bjork-Spooner-Grabner. Holy freakin speed. It would be pretty cool to watch for a couple shifts.

He’d realistically play on Krejcis right wing let’s be honest.

He’s also going to like break records for empty net goals this year so I’d be careful about price. Worth inquiring if it’s for a 2nd or something.

Reason I think Buffalo would trade to a division rival now is the following:

1) Kane is a UFA at years end
2) They're not competing for a playoff spot right now so inter-division shouldn't matter

Would Boston risk sending a A- or B+ prospect there for a few months of Kane, chancing that prospect bites them in the ass in the years to come? I dunno, I guess it depends on who the prospect is and how they feel they fit in the future plans.

I'd offer them Cehlarik maybe? No one else on the current roster.......unless we pay them a premium to take Beleskey?

John Tavares.

B's just bumped the Islanders out of the last playoff spot.

Imagine if the Isles decide to keep Tavares for a playoff run, only to miss the playoffs and lose him for nothing? Would they really risk that kind of setback to their franchise?

I could understand them keeping him if they were a top3 team in their division at the deadline, but with him unsigned and the Isles on the playoff bubble? No way.

Yes. He has already said he's not talking new deal during the season and the owner said he respects that.

The heck with Tavares. If trading with the Isles, you need to go for Barzal.
Too much ?

Watching Tavares walk away with nothing to show for it would be a catastrophic loss to that franchise.

He's not going to. The only reason he didn't extend this summer was the non existent arena deal. He will get an 8/96 deal or so from them. Only way he gets dealt is if they drop out, far and the owner panics and doesn't think John is a man of his word.

I don't think it's a question of Tavares being a man of his word. Tavares said he doesn't want to negotiate during the season. That's not the same as promising he'll re-sign. He can expect to be offered $12m/per from 20 teams. He won't be going back on his word if he listens to the Isles offer but still checks out the market.

I know much has been made about the arena situation. Isles fans have been hanging their hat on the idea that that's the hold up for Tavares, but didn't McKenzie say the new arena deal wasn't necessarily the big lynch-pin people were hoping for? Over the summer and early in the season, when Tavares wouldn't sign everyone said the arena deal was the big holdup. Then the arena deal comes through and folks expected talks to get underway only to find out that now he doesn't want to negotiate during the season. If I were a fan of that team that would make me very nervous.

They have to sign Bailey as well

Yep. And DeHaan. And Hickey. And Halak.

Tavares and Bailey are 2/3rds of their 1st line, DeHaan and Hickey are half of their top4, and Halak is their starting goalie. All UFA's.

It would be very expensive to keep that team together, a team that missed the playoffs last year and is on the bubble right now.

The owner was just on for an interview last week. They can offer the extra year that other teams can't, and it's not easy for a team to fit 12 mil under the cap. Tavares would have signed an extension had they had an arena, because he didn't want to relocate, and unless that has changed I don't see an issue at all.

They have the option of trading Tavares for a haul, and building around Barzal and their other youth.

I’d imagine they’d get an impressive package in return for Tavares.

Halak is all but done...so I dont see him being brought back. (so many goalies avail)
Kulemin is UFA - gone is over $4mill
Chimera is UFA - gone over $2mill
Seidenberg is UFA - Gone over $1mill

That's $7mill alone.

I think Isles will be fine....especially since they always have cap space every year.

Fair point about the extra year.

I don't know, call me a skeptic. Maybe it is already in the bag like you're suggesting but like I said, if I were a fan of that team I'd be nervous. I would think the owner has to present a confident face to the media, anything else would set off a panic in the fanbase.

One of the books I read recently about the business side of hockey talks about the true value of a franchise player, and how the presence of these players is what gets new arenas built. Would that Belmont deal have happened if the owner had come out and said they're looking to trade him and re-build? It certainly wouldn't have helped.

And those roster spot will be replaced by guys making 700/800/900 k.

So it's really more like 4 million, not 7.

But with the cap increasing I think they'll be able to afford Tavares and at least one of De Hann/Hickey. I don't expect Halak back either, but I do think they'll want to upgrade in goal if Tavares sticks around.

If Tavares gets traded or worse yet, walks, just as well for them to tear it all down and start over.

If Bailey finishes Top 10 in scoring, I think some team will blow him away with an offer to leave. Personally I'm not convinced he's the type of guy who'd I would go all out to sign as a UFA, but some lousy GM will see the production and pony up, I don't think it will be Garth Snow.

Sounds like the perfect guy for Bergevin to sign for the Habs

Love it, Bailey signs in Montreal for mucho dollars, only to watch his offensive production go completely in the tank with no Tavares as his center, and Julien as his coach.

Bruins shouldn't be faulted for not giving up Loui at the trade deadline when they were fighting for a playoff spot, and the Islanders shouldn't either. Now, if the Isles fall out of it, then yes.....They shouldn't be holding onto him unless they truly believe he's going to re-sign.

I don't want to trade for Taveres, but man would I love to get him in FA. I realize that money would be extremely, especially with new deals coming for Chuck and the other youngsters. You'd have to get rid of Spooner, McQ, buyout Beleseky at a minimum. I've run some scenarios and it's possible, although unlikely.

I personally want to do all of those things regardless, so count me in.

Mike Hoffman would be nice, but what are the Bruins giving up for him?

FANRAG SPORTS NETWORK: Chris Nichols cites NHL insider Darren Dreger discussing the trade status of Ottawa Senators winger Mike Hoffman with Montreal’s TSN 690. Dreger said he recently spoke with Sens GM Pierre Dorion, who acknowledged there’s interest in Hoffman but no concrete offers yet.
Dreger also said there’s no fire sale in Ottawa yet but that could change if team owner Eugene Melnyk decides it’s time to cut payroll.

Sounds like Dorion might of learned a little bit from Sakic.

That fire sale could happen as Ottawa just looks like a team who doesn't care/no-fire or life at all on that team. Pretty tough schedule ahead as well, right till their next tilt with the Bruins.
