Brannstrom so good last night.

Sanderson so good last night.

Zub so good habit good.
Hamonic had the most hiccups but wasn’t terrible or anything

Holden love the guy. Nothing special. Nothing bad. Him and branny seem to like eachother.

Chabot played well.

Parker Kelly was ok but I dono. Maybe someone else there would work better.

Watson got an assist but up until then it was rough to watch.

Kastelic was decent.

Debrincat is f***ing sick. No goals but man the guy can play any way.

Giroux is great.

Motte is not the motte we saw in preseason lol.

Certainly felt that way but remember we were in a packed and vocal house lol.

I think this was evidenced with some numbers I saw. Bruins generated verrrry little high danger scoring chances
Yep
Branstrom is a new player
Maybe try Brassard to replace Kelly if needed (can he play wing though?)
The release from Debrincat from any angle is top in the league . Goals will come
Love G he gave the tone of the game early

I want a big mobile D too

Motte isn’t a 3rd liner.
Motte is fine imo
Just not on the PP
Not at 49 sec when Pinto gets 56 sec
PP choices should be in whatever order or position:

BT Stu Bath G Cat Norris Pinto Chabot Sanderson Branny

I thought Forsberg was the weakest player for us last night. There were two Bruins goals where he had no chance but on the others, I thought he looked weak and nervous. The Pasta goal with 15 seconds to go in the 2nd period, he was a deer in headlights. A big time goalie snaps that puck out of the air.

Going to be insane by December. If we add a top 4 over Hamonic and get Formenton back/another 3rd liner, we're good to go toe to toe vs any team.
Sure, if we can make it work with the cap space that we have. Currently, we have a little over $4 m of cap space - the numbers below are copied from CapFriendly.

PROJECTED CAP SPACE

: $4,118,452

CURRENT CAP SPACE

: $4,304,597

It looked to me like Pasta got a twig in the twig and berries on his dive call.

Was that not the consensus?
That's what I saw.

This team needs a big tough young strong defensive defenceman on the back end to clear the front of the net & make guys pay who stand there. Kleven will really help this team but they could use one on the right side as well, they have plenty of scoring power & PMD already. Don't need Chychrun, they need to prevent goals from going into their net.

Bruins certainly didn't make it easy for the Senators.

Didn't look like 3 games in 4 nights and back to back games.

Rumors of their demise have been greatly exaggerated.

As a Bruins fan I of course agree. Without 3/4 of their top 4D or Brad Marchand the Bruins are playing good hockey and the predictions of their demise *this season* have continued to baffle me.... next season might be a whole new story :).

I didn't want to get dragged into the Sens and Panthers fighting in the predict the Atlantic thread, but I don't see any difference between this Sens team and the Panthers up front and that is meant as a high compliment. Just need Sanderson, et al to develop on the backend and there is a lot to like and be excited about in Ottawa.

I suspect that the Sens will pass the Bruins soon, very soon, but not this year.

After last year's clear delineation within the division, this year is going to be a bit more of a dogfight with Detroit, Buffalo and Ottawa seemingly improved on paper, Boston with some early adversity, and Florida, Toronto and Tampa Bay having to make the cap work and not necessarily as strong as last season. I'm not sure how long Montreal can keep pace (or if they even want to) but they have some core pieces as well.

I'm curious to see who is where when the dust settles.

Last night was electric. Good effort by the guys, not perfect but it is great that we can beat a good team while making some critical mistakes.

Can't wait to see a game live... just bought 4 tickets in the 200s for Nov 30th against the Rangers... will be the first time I've spend my money on expensive seats. To be fair, I lived 70% of my adult life in BC, 20% of my adult life in a pandemic, and I'm a cheap f*** who works for a very small not-for-profit... but still! Beyond excited for this new chapter.

I thought Hamonic looked terrible.
Worst game in a Sens uniform, off the top of my head.

He strikes me as a guy who plays best when everyone else is executing, playing sound positionally, calm, etc. Last night was a good effort but definitely a bit of a shit show. I am optimistic he will be better, albeit not optimistic at all that he is a solution in the top 4.

I'd love for us to play in the 2-3 matchup. Let's go get it! That building was electric last night, and I've been going to games there since 96. I hope the community can keep that sort of buzz going for a long time. The city is better for it.

Pretty obvious Ottawa has to get one more really solid anchor on the blueline. Then it'll be yikes.

People always crap on the guys who are doing their best to prevent goals on a team with a bunch of young guys who are constantly taking risks to score goals & losing the puck. Yes, the three guys we have are all older in Holden, Zaitsev & Hamonic & need to be replaced, but there really isn't anyone better in the org at the moment who are as good or experienced. There could be a couple at the TDL which Ott should definitely pursue at the right price. Chychrun IMO is not the answer, we already have 3 PMD, a good, big tough defensive defender who can skate, clear the front of the net & be a pain in the ass to play against who can keep up with the play could be.

Yeah I didn’t think he was very good either. Not just on the goals but even on his saves he didn’t look too comfy

Yeah, that's not surprising. People crapped on the D against the leafs, but I was listening to a interview with DJ and he mentioned they had averaged something like 14 odd man rushes a game and we kept them to just three, I think we're putting an emphasis on reducing those types of chances and while we are giving the opposition room along the perimeter in the DZ it's not translating to high quality chances against but looks bad to same as they see the other team controlling possession.

With Ekblad going on LTIR, I wonder if folks were pointing at the right team from the top 4 to see a potential decline...

Yes, it's not easy scoring in the NHL from the perimeter, at least it shouldn't be although it does happen from time to time. Skating around the perimeter is suppose to loosen the defence, but if players (especially young players) stay in their positions & sag into the centre when required to protect the net they should get better.

It's when they chase that causes problems & opens holes in the defensive zone coverage. Four stay in their box & the guy closes to the puck goes for the puck carrier & then drops back when the puck carrier leaves his area & the next closes guy goes after him. Some guys play positional hockey better than other guys & everyone eventually makes a mistake in coverage. Or they get too tired when they are on too long which is what perimeter play is trying to achieve keeping them on there as long as they can to tire them out & create a scoring chance.

Imagine adding Formenton, Greig and a bonafide top 4RD to this team?

Grieg isn't close to ready and the D have been good. Imagine just being patient enough for the team to gel and play together.

Agree on Formenton though. They are missing him.
A lot of folks were going to cut Brannstrom loose as well. That would have been a premature move. It takes a bit of time for young defenders to learn and adapt at a NHL level. Brainstorm's performance in relation to his salary (AAV) looks pretty good right now. I'm thinking the same could happen with JBD & Thomson.

I thought Hamonic looked terrible.
...and the advanced stats from last night back you up on that.

We don't owe Hamonic much - he's a veteran on an expiring contract who we picked up to carry us over for a while. Frankly, I'd rather see JBD here playing in his place for the second half of the year, if not sooner. (Say, tomorrow night, ;-) )

So they've basically lost their top D pairing from last year and made a sideways move up front. Also lost their deadline additions in Giroux & Chiarot. Will be interesting to see if they keep up to last years pace with all the changes.
