Post-Game Talk: Bruins @ Senators - 7-5 Victory (Would have been 7-0 if Zaitsev played)

If we can't stop pucks from going into our own net we will be just like the Panthers & out in the 1st rd. We need everyone on this team to commit to playing better defensively as well & take pride on keeping the goals against low.

I thought Zub played a lot better in the offensive zone last night & showed he has much more untapped offensive potential. He needs to do that more & contribute to the offence, but I also like the idea that he protects the backend when Chabot takes off. We could use another guy like him, maybe JBD turns into that guy.

I agree with you on that but I think we've got some guys in Giroux and Hamonic and Holden that can speak to that. I also am really liking the early season look of both Brannstrom and Sanderson. Our D is looking much better than last season

Last night we had two 3 goal leads and I think we just got a little loose because of it.

Forsberg might even want one or two back ideally. He played well enough to win, but wasn't as good as he was game 1 & 2 imo.

Dave Smart was on the radio this afternoon talking about the mental defensive let downs last night. He thought they played better defensively against the Leafs than the Bruins. Coaches of course are always harping on defence & most think good teams play good defence & it wins championships. I'm sure they will get better defensively as the yr goes on & they get better at executing their assignments. Forsberg needs to be a little better too.

yeah, not surprised that Smart thought we looked better in the game we allowed 3 goals in than we did in the one we allowed 5, lol.

That said, he's not wrong, they had more breakdowns against Boston, but I still think the d held up alright, certainly better than the score suggested.

We don't talk about goaltending either especially when they win, but Forsberg needs to be better. I'm hoping Talbot when he returns comes in & plays as well with us as he did last yr when he was an all star for Minny, that might take some pressure off Forsberg. I wonder if we'll see Hellberg at some point soon, maybe against Arizona?

I'd agree. The score wasn't really telling of how they defended. It was more carelessness with the puck that bite them last night. I would say 4 of the goals were the result of poor plays with the puck and the other being a deflection off a lost faceoff.

I'm still in the afterglow of last night's game! Unfortunately had to watch it on PVR, and I missed recording the first period as well, so I missed the first 3 goals and the Alfie introduction. But still was a lot of fun, and reading the GDT afterwards (with the usual distribution of "likes" that ensued :D) made me relive it all again, and made me wish I'd seen it live and was able to contribute as well.

I thought the pp goal was a bit of a flukey bounce, an attempt at a pass across to Kreiji seemed to deflect off Joseph and right to Bergeron in the slot, he shoots, the rebound gets passed the D to Kreiji who burries it, not so much a poor play with the puck unless your referring to something earlier. I don't recall if we could have cleared earlier or something.

Crowd was great last night, made for a fun game, nice to chat to some of the ushers got to know over the years( didn’t go during Covid), hadn’t seen them in awhile, just a great atmosphere in the building.

Was a groggy start to the day, this morning though.

Yeah I was referencing what lead to the Zub penalty. Debrincat turned back into the zone and turned it over in the last minute of the 1st. Zub closed on the puck and got tangled up resulting in the tripping penalty. A penalty was going to happen eventually but felt it really allowed Boston to build off their 1st goal which happened minutes earlier. They were playing a little to loose at times with the puck.

Ah, gotcha,

I thought that call was a bit frustrating seeing as it really felt like he went down easy, I wasn't happy that the ref 5 feet away staring right at it opted not to call it while the guy 60 feet out or whatever it was decided it needed to be made. Can't argue that Zub didn't get his stick in his feet, but I get the feeling the close ref thought it was embellished and was going let them wash each other out. Doesn't change your point about them running around a bit though.

No way... Hamonic was great last night. He started the play on the first goal. He's big he clears the net. They need his size.
I agree

Not sure I agree with the critics on Hamonic. Obviously wont be an advanced stats darling but I think he plays heavy in the corner and makes guys pay in front of the net and along the boards, smart player too. I have liked him since he’s been here. Whiffed on a couple loose pucks and missed passes here and there yesterday but overall I think he’s done a good job

Ideally he's on your bottom pairing but I don't have much issues with his play this season

I'll be very happy if they have a similar season to last year's panthers.

The score flattered Boston. They weren't making great plays. They had one nice snipe. Everything else was a bounce, a fortunate rebound or a deflection off a Senators stick.

Kudos to the bruins for burying the chances they generated. But yeah they were out worked and the score could have been quite different. Also believe the reffing was insanely one sided.

Lots of bounces and post an ins for them. We definitely carried the play, the momentum, and the physicality.

Good lesson though for the kids though, stars will find a way to score even if they have limited chances.

Giroux & Zub interview.

Zub's english is coming along.

I listened to that yesterday when Crosside posted the clip, but watching it was interesting

Zub looks thrilled that he actually can be interviewed. He also looks quite happy.
