stop being over dramatic... we win, everyones up in arms.. we loose, we're a ****** team, torts sucks, slats worst gm in history.. apocalypse is happening soon..

we're playing boston well considering how deep they are.. these are the issue i think..

1-it all starts with torts.. PP 2-39? are you kidding me... Torts to blame..

2- Richard's barely looks like a serviceable player anymore.12m/yr for this??????? WTF!!!. when we need him to lead this group.. if he was playing like he should and paid for.. we wouldnt be struggling.. pretty simple..

3-we cant match up to boston's 4th line.. they are dominating us.. they get momentum and heart and sole from those guys.. they know there role and do it well..

4-stepan isnt the issue.. kid is working hard and applied nice pressure tn with callahan and hags...and the entire series..

5- all said and done, how can anyone argue with the depth boston has, did everyone expect it to be easy?

6- to me the biggest is boston wanted it more.. rangers lack killer instinct, that hard work and determination to win every battle.. and most of all no urgency...

overall we're so close but yet so far.. boston's team has been together for 3-4yrs now min and thats huge for playoff success, we need to keep the squad together long term to see where we are as a team to gauge it properly.. you cant change over 9 players in less then a yr and expect a huge success... i believe we need a more cohesive group... got to endure pain of loosing before you win.. and it all comes down to coaching and will power to lay it all down and win.. we need that if we want to win..
 
our real problem here is that Stepan, Cally and Hagelin should be your THIRD line...not your first line.

Brad Richards and Marian Gaborik really killed our season.
 
Boston not that long ago in 2010 blew a 3-0 series lead to the Flyers and lost.

Hope right?

The Leafs are a very good hockey team, quite frankly. They're built to beat the Bruins more so than we are.

He was certainly and offensive force by himself down the stretch for this team...he hasn't put the team on his back in the playoffs, but he definitely did for the 2 most important months of the regular season.

Normally, I'd agree with you (and it's what I was saying at the beginning of the year) - Stepan's a tremendous guy to have, but he won't lead your team. This season changed my mind, and I think we'll see it in the future in the playoffs as well.

He's only 22, let's keep that in mind as well. But for sure, these playoffs have been a disappointment outside of games 3 and 4 in the first round.
 
Give DZ another year. He's young. Defenseman usually don't blossom fully at his age. Trade Girardi as soon as possible. He's a solid defenseman. He's done well with us. But I see this is a time to move on. His value will just be going down (looks like DZ's is too), so you gotta get the most out of him before it's too late.
 
Rangers managed only 9 SOG after the Pyatt goal...9 shots in 36 minutes.

I'm going with the latter. We managed to scrape out of the first round, which I think is a testament to this team's will and ability to find ways to win when we "don't deserve it"...but you can only do that so much. Boston is outplaying us, they have been the better team...no more, no less.

What does that mean for our teams conditioning then? It's only been 58 games this year. And I won't take the Tortorella's system takes a toll on the players approach, because last year they played over 100 games before they looked this gassed.
 
BS about going back to putting any blame on Gaborik.
Gaborik did not play tonight. This team had it as good as they could hope to for game 3, relatively healthy in terms of the players dressed, the best goalie in the game, and they crapped the bed.

Glen Seather is an incompetent fool compared to Lou Lamoriello. Lou will probably field more competitive teams than Slats with less leeway with FA like he always has in his tenure as GM.

How about we don't trade a heart-and-soul player that has had an off year, who also happens to play the one position that our team is weakest at (right defense).

And no, I don't expect Girardi to play like he did last season every year. But I certainly think he will be better moving forward than he was this season. Unlike many of you, I'm willing to give these players a second shot. Not everyone who has a bad year is washed up.

Last year, we had a forecheck. We were still inept offensively, but think about how much time guys like Prust and Dubinsky and Callahan and Fedotenko and Boyle, and even John Mitchell kept the puck below the opposing team's goal line. That's effective defense without the defense working at all. And frankly, that was one of the most important aspects to last year's team.

This year, there's been non of that. Our defense has been massacred night in, night out.

Maybe with the way they've been playing the playoffs, but Stepan has had 1st line production. Cally has had 2nd line borderline first line production. They are however constant no-****ing-shows in the playoffs. However, let's not exaggerate here. They should be a 2nd line ideally. They're not that far from being a first line, with their regular season play. Brassard, with the way he has played for us and with Nash's talent, they could also be a first line. Of course Nash is another playoff no show.
 
I said it before, I'll say it again - you never trade a gamebreaker for roster depth.

Brassard has been awesome, don't get me wrong, but you could have acquired him for a draft pick, not for someone who netted 40 goals for you last season.

Sure, we were weak down the middle and were giving up too many scoring chances, but we have literally the best goalie in the world. I'd rather keep whatever 'potential' offense we had and take my chances with Hank, than the other way around.

:laugh: I honestly don't get it. Gaborik was terrible this year and would still be terrible in the playoffs. I don't think Stepan has been nearly as good as he was in the regular season. The whole team except Lundqvist is out of form though. The team is playing with 0 confidence. Losing game 1 buried this team psychologically for some reason.
 
Torts complains about not having enough of the puck, yet his coaching strategy lends itself to rush-less dumps and complete lack of defensive zone pressure on the points, letting teams maintain possession.

Makes sense.
 
These kids are still young. McD, stepan, Hagelin, Staal, MDZ etc.

Boston had three crushing postseasons before winning it in 2011. The Game 7 loss at home to Carolina and the historic choke job in 2010.

They'll be good next year. Maybe trading MDZ or Staal for some offense and then a young coach would be a nice change

Well, what were you basing your statement on? ;)

I don't think Stepan was anything spectacular, but, frankly, Stepan isn't going to be productive when he's getting no support. The offensive game, as a whole, has been atrocious in this playoffs. I am not going to be placing blame on any single player, mainly because I think coaching seriously plays into it.

Stepan had some clutch goals, by the way, and IMO, has been one the only forward we've had that hasn't looked terrible in the defensive zone. I think he is a premier two-way center in this league that needs the right players supporting him.

He should be with Nash, first off. That is when Steps was at his best. Then get him a big winger with a scoring touch.

Actually, speaking of a big winger with a scoring touch, I saw Kreider-Stepan-Nash a few times tonight. Yes, plz.
