Regula is coming in hot

8. Regula

think we need to hear more about regula's play this season. obviously RHD is a
hole on the organizational depth chart. i'd imagine the expectation is that gryz
and forbort are gone this summer, replaced by a legit top 4 LHD. lohrei becomes
your 3rd pair LD, and that probably means you want a shutdown/PK type for 3 RD.
i guess the other question is if you want 2 young guys playing together if regula
was an option...but wotherspoon looks like a heck of a 7 that can play both sides.

I’m not sure if Lorhei is still around after they secure a top 4D. They only guys that have expiring contracts that match the profile are Hanifin and Skjei and I think their chances of making it to market are vastly overestimated.

I pasted the lines where Wheeler projects what he sees them becoming (left out Lysell and Lohrei, he likes them):

Hendrickson
He’s got some skill and I wouldn’t be surprised if, with time, he was the kind of player who came into his own at 22-23 and carved out a career as solid AHL depth.
Pelosi
I’m not sure he has NHL upside, but he’s got a pro build (6-foot-1 and athletic) and some desirable qualities to his game.
Spicer
There’s some craftiness to his game. I expect him to produce at Minnesota-Duluth when he’s an upperclassman if he can get his academics back under control and he’s slotted into an offensive role. But he’s probably a long shot to get signed given the way things have gone for him over the last two years.
Duran
He’s got the tools to become a fourth-line forward at the next level, and that’s good value out of a sixth-round pick, but he’ll need to add dimension to get there.
Kuntar
My main concern is that he’s not going to have the skill level to consistently get into those spots, nor the playmaking ability needed to be more than two-dimensional as a physical scorer. He may top out as an AHLer as a result (though I also wouldn’t be shocked if an NHL coach eventually grew fond enough of him to give him a look as a bottom-sixer).
Walsh
He’s got work to do on his play away from the puck, though, and I’m not sure his game offensively is going to be dynamic enough to get him to the NHL if he doesn’t prove he can be a more reliable player type. He’s capable of becoming a talented college player who gets a look.
Myrenberg
He probably tops out as a No. 5-7, and he may just become a good mid-level pro, but every organization needs those guys. They should consider signing him.
Brunet
He’s a smooth, smart player who could become a No. 6/7 for the NHL club in time.
Svedeback
If he can build in a little more quickness without losing the control he has, he might have NHL upside.
Harrison
There were too many times in junior when it felt like he was a volume shooter who doesn’t scare opponents, and you’ve got to scare opponents at that level to be successful up levels.
Jellvik
I have wondered if he tops out as a good AHL/SHL level player more than an NHLer, but he’s on a path to getting signed and I could see him becoming a call-up option.
Farinacci
But he’s not the strongest, fastest, or most talented player in the world and he probably tops out as a role player as a result.

christopher pelosi 14th is a headscratcher...no merkulov. no bussi (does this guy rank goalies?).
should've had lucic train compile this for him.
Under 23 I think He also rated Holmstrom on the Isles and he has more NHL games than Poitras.

under 23 is a bizarre line to use. and this guy is still better than pronman, who is a total fraud
Yeah you can’t take them seriously. If you weren’t drafted in the first two rounds they don’t value the player. Their rankings are just who had the highest picks. For ten years Buffalo has had a far superior prospect rating than the Bruins and here we are. Again

Obviously bad teams should have higher ranked prospects. Good teams don't need a lot of high rated prospects, they just need a few to hit in the position of need.

Teams like LA are always ranked high.....how is that working out? A high ranking means nothing as lots of high rated prospects fizzle out all the time

Not sure why this bothers anyone- these guys are in businesses that demand constant content to stay alive and so they push it out. Clearly none of them can do deep dives or even sometimes basic research beyond draft position for every team in a 32 team league. It seems every league-wide prospect pool overview has some egregious errors and ridiculous items, and not just for the Bruins. Remember Lohrei being a poor skater? Yeah one of those hacks actually said that. It's easier (and mentally healthier) not to read them, imo.

But you have to agree they write as if they do have intimate knowledge of every prospect, no? And therein lies one of the issues.

These guys are just generic writers. Probably not even writing this stuff. I’m ok with having a dead last prospect pool and having one kid make it a year. You can’t have 10 all stars. It just doesn’t work like that.

Yes, that is part of it- they arent going to sell their product by admitting they really don't know jack shit about 80%+ of the guys they talk about beyond what they read from others that do what they do, or Central Scouting. But knowing that is the case, I can't get too fussed about the BS, if that makes sense.

Yeah I'm not fussed. But so many (here and elsewhere) love to use the "Bruins have the third worst prospect pool in the league!!!" trope because they reference these, without context.
