My two cents from the prospect tourney:

Thumbs up:
-- Poitras: he was Boston's best player; made plays all over the ice
-- Toporowski: had 2 goals and was one of the few Bruins regularly making things happen
-- Harrison: 3 goals in 3 games and he could have had a few more. His shot was as advertised but he made a number of nice plays throughout
-- Lysell: his usual self creating plays; no bad turnovers or penalties which was his biggest flaw last year
-- Brunet: had the bad pinch vs. Montreal but otherwise was decent defensively; very smooth with the puck
-- Mast: nothing flashy but he seemed to make good plays with the puck more often than not
-- Abate: always brings the energy; I was a fan of his last year and he didn't disappoint in Buffalo. Hopefully he gets a regular spot in Prov this year
-- Hall: my expectations for him at this point are pretty low but I will give him credit for playing well in the tourney
-- Rousseau: he didn't have to make any crazy saves but he was just all around solid

Just OK:
-- Lohrei: he was real sloppy the first game (rust?) but looked much better the second
-- Kuntar: he had the one goal but otherwise didn't jump off the screen much IMO
-- Edward: didn't look out of place but didn't do much to stand out either; was waiting for a big hit but it never came
-- Callahan: was his usual uneventful self but given how he ended last season, that's a good thing in my book
-- the invites: none of them really stood out to me to be honest

Thumbs down:
-- Farinacci: woof, turnover machine; by far the worst player for Boston IMO
-- Beecher: aside from the one rush vs. NJ, his offense was pretty much non-existent...not good considering the level of competition
-- Merkulov: given last season, I expected him to be the best player and he was far from it; looked pretty disinterested

I think the only way for Beecher to become an nhl player is if he realizes the fact that he doesn’t have much offensive talent and embraces the role of a defensive specialist that throws the body. To me, his showing in the tourney was representative of this. You can’t make leopard change his spots at this point in his development.

I agree with you on Farinacci. Thought surely he would be better in his second game. Nope. Outright putrid at the dot. As you point out, turnover machine. Questionable positioning without the puck. Maybe he just had a couple bad games. Hope so or else that's $910,000 down the drain for the Bs.

More like $80,000 in Providence

Personally I'd keep Mechura around and keep tabs on Rousseau

Who did you like?

Agree on Mechura. I think they definitely sign Rousseau IF one of Keyser or DiPietro are claimed off waivers, much like they signed Keyser hours after Subban was claimed back in 2017.

With St-Hilaire, he'd have to be signed before the QMJHL season begins but no timetable with Rousseau as he's an overager.

Ritchie is already signed

I don’t agree with his 3 stars but I did think Callahan was excellent, especially today. Callahan and Mast were the steadiest D. Lohrei was the most exciting (for good and bad), Brunet made some nice plays and Edward showed more poise and better hands than I thought he had.

Lysell, Poitras and Merk were the most exciting offensive players. Topo has NHL tenacity, shot and pace. Harrison showed his scoring touch. Kuntar was good at both ends. Beecher was physical, and had some good moments but when you see him blow by the NJ D it leaves you wanting more. I though Farinacci was a non factor in the early games but made some nice plays today.

Weekend Wrap

Game #2 for Myrenberg 1 shot 12:46 TOI 4-1 win

2 games for Frölunda, both losses
Nassen no shots -1 4-1 defeat
Kostadinski 1 shot -2

2nd game
Kostadinski 1 assist 2 shots +1 4-2 loss
Nassen 1 shot +1

Over in the USHL the preseason has been a bit of a shit show for Sioux Falls
Dumb penalties and selfish play have been a theme
The Stampede finish 0-4 and the Season starts for real Thursday at 8pm
I'll reserve a hot take till after I see them a few times

Let the Kuntar hype begin

Yes!!! I’ve been saying it all along, Kuntar is going to be a beast in Providence! Not as flashy as Lysell and Merkulov, but I think he has a more mature overall game in all zones.
Btw, he’s recovering from an elbow injury, not shoulder surgery. Based on how he played this past weekend, looks like he has a full bill of health!

Also, why is no one talking more about Harrison?!? He’s a beast and I bet will be in the NHL before any of the forwards that attended Prospects Camp - Beecher, Lysell, Merkulov, Poitras….time to show some love!

Not 100% true, Poitras can make the Bruins out of training camp play 9 games and then be sent back to Junior. If this happened, the Bruins do not burn a year from his ELC ( Entry Level Contract).

Yep, you are right. But it is true that he has to make the roster on opening night, though, and can't be called up if he gets sent to Junior.
