Wow, Poitras really sounds exciting! I haven't watched him play..but I think I'm going to try to catch the next game.
If he adds enough muscle in the offseason I would be for it. But I doubt he does it in one offseason. Can we start the Poitras gets a 9 game look next season hype train, yet? I assume he won’t be AHL eligible, yet?

That's AHL eligibility. The NHL/CHL agreement forbids him from playing in the AHL unless it is after his OHL season is over or he is 20 years of age. It's either NHL or back to OHL until he is 20. There have been so many examples of this I can't believe you went to AHL Bylaws when, as a drafted player he falls totally under NHL rules/CBA.Poitras would be eligible. He is 19.
Rule
What is the minimum age for an AHL player? Per the AHL's By-Laws, the age limit for eligibility to compete in the American Hockey League is 18 years or over, on or before September 15 of each season of competition.
Also for OHL eligibility
The league is for players aged 16–19. There are exceptions for overage players of 20 years of age.
Not sure/familiarGood FA list - do we have a chance to grab someone?
I seriously had a NESN personality message me during a commercial break during Saturday's game asking for comp and I gave the same answer. As the consummate professional he is I understand why Dom hesitates to do player comparisons. As the complete unprofessional hack I am, I'll give one for Poitras. A little bit of LaFontaine lite.
I thought the criticism on Poitras in his draft year was his skating, has his skating noticeably increased since then or was it an incorrect diagnosis ?I seriously had a NESN personality message me during a commercial break during Saturday's game asking for comp and I gave the same answer.
I'm planning on attending a couple Guelph storm playoff games. I can't wait to watch Poitras.I thought the criticism on Poitras in his draft year was his skating, has his skating noticeably increased since then or was it an incorrect diagnosis ?
To be at all compared to the likes of Lafontaine and Marner, 2 guys who were/are really quick and shifty sure dosen't sound like skating is an issue unless it's just straight ahead speed. I also realize that Poitras is not the scoring threat that those two are.
It's why comps are unfair. Last year he may have been compared to player x, now this year player y and next year player z. That's what happens to players at this stage who continue to develop. I mean last year there were people comparing him to Callahan.I thought the criticism on Poitras in his draft year was his skating, has his skating noticeably increased since then or was it an incorrect diagnosis ?

In 1979, the National Hockey lowered the draft eligibility age over a two-year period from 20 to the present-day 18 (with the birthday cut off set at Sept. 15 of the draft’s calendar year). Concurrently, in order to keep CHL teams strong both on the ice and at the box office, CHL players under 20 whose NHL rightsholder deemed not quite ready for the NHL were required to return to their Canadian major junior team rather than playing in the AHL during the season.
Those basic requirements have held in place ever since. However, for young players signed out of Europe or collegiate players who give up their remaining NCAA eligibility in order to sign an NHL entry-level contract or AHL minor league contract, the minimum age to play in the AHL is 18.

If 37/46 don't returnReally shows how much we need a one year solution next year before some kids step in the year after. Guess that one year solution is either 37 or 46 or both, or some random 3rd line C as a FA. Zacha-Coyle-?-Nosek/Merkulov
Next year will probably be Bergeron - Zacha - Frederic - UFAIf 37/46 don't return
Zacha, Coyle, Frederic, Beecher?
