We just gave up another 3 draft picks- including a first rounder again- for filler players. Thumbs down.

Haven’t had a lot to bitch about this year. This isn’t it, though.

Love this deal, Hathaway is a physical, dirty, big man who hits everything. Excellent pick up. Orlov becomes a true number 3 who you can pair with Mac and now a left side of Orlov, Lindholm and Forbort with currently Grizz and Zboril as depth. Giving the devil his due, excellent trade by Sweeney.
I don’t see any way that Grzelcyk sits.

Edit: thought orlov was signed longer.

Looks like this year will be the end of the road for Smith in the NHL.

I don't like Hathaway and I still remember what Orlov did to Kevan Miller. But they are acquisitions that make a lot of sense and the price is what it is in the current market, so I will hold my nose and say that this is a good deal. Hopefully both guys come to play.

Why the Caps are giving away experienced players to a potential playoff rival is a bit weird though. But that's their prerogative.

Selling big time and in Orlov case giving him a legit shot at a Cup for being a valued player for them. He wins it he may just reups with his Russian buddies on the Caps.

Caps fan coming in peace. You picked up two guys that play hard every night. Scorlov is defensively responsible and has a cannon and can puck handle like an legit offensive player. And Hathaway has no quit. He makes any fourth line dangerous - he can score, fight, be a pest. Congrats.
Why doesn’t Hathaway play up in the lineup seems he’s more 4th liner then 3rd. Is that right.

Well, fudge nuts. Had too many windows open while trying to process this trade and posted the following on the main trade board when I meant to post it here:

Batted around in my head past few seasons of what would I think with the Bs addressing toughness with Hathaway on the team. Never could come up with a definitive answer. A little too borderline for my liking, but is a hitting machine with some offensive skill, not to mention a royal pain in the behind. A real puke. Now he's our puke and just what the Bs need for the playoffs. Orlov is an obvious great addition.

Thank goodness they avoided Kane and his like. Would have been an unnecessary addition and not allowed much room to address other areas.

This season is as all-in as a team can get. Love the trade. DS addressed several things with only a couple additions. Brilliant move by DS. Fairly big price for those two players, but in the big scheme of things it was going to take some doing to move some salary, bring in toughness, address depth on the bottom 6 and on D. Would be awesome if either or both of those guys can be signed for a reasonable amount after the season.

Rest of the Eastern Conference just got a little more nervous. DS is grinning ear to ear, and so am I.
I'll bet you got a lot of loving replies too.....

The team is having an all-time historic season. That first is most likely #30-32, basically a 2nd.

You're giving up picks in the next few years that are in the late teens+ for a guy who is a legit #3D and a an absolute f***ing pest and a perfect fit for the 4th line here.

THey both are tough, hit, and fill the teams biggest weakness.

But you know...."Filler".

Hilariously terrible take.

Not trying to act like sour grapes but Arizona had better pray that Chycruns run of injuries and surgeries don't render his price tag in half or worse.
Columbus missed the boat on a package of picks too, maybe they get an equal
offer, and maybe not.
There's a lesson there about overplaying your hand for both teams.
There were a few elements there that are truly a bit involved, glad we had a Harvard
guy steering the ship. I've made fun of him before for some of his moves but today's trade was really incredible.
I'm no fan boy but when a guy does an exceptional job, as in this case I give him credit. Sweeney, for the third year in a row, killed it!

Two great additions.

Guys with experience of winning in the post-season. Orlov is a huge addition, wonder if he'll pair with McAvoy?

Love Hathaway being on th 4th line - his speed and eye for goal were noticable against the Bruins aswell as his desire to get into the dirty areas around the net, take a hit, lay a hit and drop the gloves.

Archtypal 4th liner you need in the post season.

Super excited about this.

Imagine what he would've done to Gourde tonight...
Gourde would have cut his foolishness out very quickly with Hathaway on the ice. Playing for the Bs was Hathaway's childhood dream. I have to wonder if now being with this group in such a historic year will motivate him to be even better and play even more physical than he already does.

So I guess that means the Chychrun trade isn't happening? :)

It's an expensive price to pay so it's win it all or bust but these are solid additions. Orlov is a solid D and can be nasty. Didn't he give Carlo one of his concussions or am I mixing that up with someone else?
Always considered Hathaway a thorn in the side when we faced him. Will be glad to see him in black and gold. Exactly what we have needed for some time on the bottom end. A competent heavy weight.

There's absolutely no question the team is better after this deal.

(and I guess Minnesota felt it was only fair to take on some of our salary after they'd already helped the leafs :))

Holy shit. I’m watching the Keaken game and I didn’t even know there was a trade. WTF!
Surprise!

He’s been holding it in for 5 months. No shock he pops up now.

Imagine being mad about giving up peanuts while shedding SALARY and adding two legit pieces. Both pieces are violent fast players too. The defender has a lot of offence to offer including a fantastic shot and he can skate with the best of them.

When’s the last time we had a legit enforcer on our 4th line who was also a good hockey player? Thornton?

In addition to being a b*tch to play against, Hathaway is a very good player in his role. All of his points this season has been 5v5. Positive +/- in all seasons where he’s been a regular. He’s got a 52% CF on 5v5 despite having over 80% DZone starts.

A 4th line of Foligno-Nosek-Hathaway will be an absolute force for us in the playoffs. Not just because they’re tough and hard to play against, but also because they’re good at hockey, especially defensively.

Orlov is no doubt the headliner of the move but I think Hathaway will have a huge impact.

Thought about Frederic as the C for this line but a good defensive C that wins 58% of his face-offs is more valuable on a line that will get most of its starts in our end.
