Orlov is a tremendous player. I don't quite see how the D fits together but Orlov is a tremendous player.

Hathaway... I'm having some trouble with. I love physical play, loved Lucic and Boychuk and that whole team... but Hathaway is a predator and a world class POS. I know our guys have done lots of shitty things too... I'm not saying we haven't but I didn't like it when we did it and I hope Hathaway is able to be super physical, punishingly physical, without spitting on people and driving heads into walls on purpose.

Ultimately, this makes the Bruins a LOT tougher to play against and gives us some fire to fight fire with.

Still hoping for an underrated forward add to the third line.

I’ve been very anti-Sweeney, but this was a very good move, IMO. Orlov very solid dman and Hathaway, if he can avoid the stupid penalties, will be just the kind of tough guy/sandpaper/pain in the arse that we’ll need in the playoffs.

From the Leafs board:

"Ironically if anything this reads more like a reactionary move from the Bruins after the Leafs formally started the Eastern arms race by getting their preferred target first"

"This. Sweeney literally copied the deal Dubas made, almost exactly, except acquired two worse players."

How can you not love those fans?!!

I don't view it as an issue. Once the playoff start, the whistles disappear. Look at how some teams got away "with everything" in recent years. Refs are not going to give teams 5-6 PPs per game on a regular basis. When people say that players like Grzelcyk aren't built for the post-season, the opposite would hold true for the Orlovs and Hathaways.

You can't possibly get anymore homer than that. Why do some Leaf fans think the hockey world revolves around them? Teams are going to add at the deadline and this has less to do with what Dubas did and more to do with addressing a need.

Leafs fans are truly some of the most delusional no matter how good or bad their team is.

I don't like Hathaway and I still remember what Orlov did to Kevan Miller. But they are acquisitions that make a lot of sense and the price is what it is in the current market, so I will hold my nose and say that this is a good deal. Hopefully both guys come to play.

Why the Caps are giving away experienced players to a potential playoff rival is a bit weird though. But that's their prerogative.

I can only imagine what is going through Alex Ovechkin's head right now. The Caps aren't a lock to make the playoffs (28-20-6) and now they've gotten worse.

I am not saying the Leafs didn't make a very good trade themselves. But this is delusional stuff first grade. They have yet to catch up in the defensive and goalie department. There was nothing reactionary about this at all. Donnie simply addressed the little holes this squad still had.

This was washington raising the white flag. 538 had them with a 22% chance of making postseason, and dropping fast. And that was before the deal

I think Ovi knew the direction the team was headed, I think his mind is mostly set on breaking the record.

Yeah, there are some "stunned" leaf fans around but the majority don't see the trade this way. Like all fan boards there are some laughable posts, but maybe because they've been on the losing end for soon long, it seems like the disillusioned diehards have a louder voice then usual, the last few years.
