Confirmed with Link: Bruins Acquire Dimitry Orlov and Garnet Hathaway from Washington

I remember Orlov being very mobile in that Washington series a couple of years ago . Not suggesting he is now the Bruins best D but does he have the best mobility?

Yeah, you need depth…and Clifton is a very tools-y, well Bruins experienced, luxury 6/7 D.

I wouldn't think Clifton would be the one to alternate with Orlov, but we'll see. I also agree that Hathaway is a tough, physical player, but I wouldn't call him dirty. Glad to see him with the B's. Good playoff pickup. And I guess if trading a 1st was ever justified, this year is the year and this seems like quite a good return.

I don’t either. But I can’t take Clifton out of the mix for the last spot. It’s gonna be tough, but Mac Lindholm Orlov and Carlo are definitely in. I’d like to add Gryz to that, but I do believe where there’s smoke there’s fire, in terms of maybe him not being physically capable in some series. It’s possible they see that.

It's taken a long time for Sweeney to get the stink off from the 2015 draft. But this trade, plus what he has done the past few seasons, makes that stink a faint whiff. Bravo Sweeney.

Hathaway is such a pain in the ass to play against. I love it.

If a team starts taking liberties against us we send him Foligno and and Fredric out there not Marchand to start hitting everything in sight and sticking up for our players.

Do people really not know that Orlov is a top-4 D? He is not a depth piece at all. He is a legitimate run at the cup type of pick up. He is a better player than Gavrikov, and not only are we getting someone better than Gavrikov but we're also solidifying our 4th line while paying less. This is a very good trade by Donny. Deadline Donny is a legend.

Yeah, this should be stickied at the top of every page. Those mentioning Orlov as a depth signing haven’t watched him much. Legit top 4 D. I can’t believe we got him for picks and Smith. Damn.

Andrei Svetlakov appears to be a throw-in but even throw-ins seem to come with an "angle". I just don't see what that angle would be with a guy who is 26 and has never played in North America.

This team doesn’t need a HUGE move. Just small tweaks. I think this is the way to go. The teams chemistry is on fire. Cant f*** with it too much.

Adding another top 4 defenseman was a huge move.

I’ve always really secretly liked Orlov as a player despite hating the caps for the most part. Living in DC he is always a fun player to watch in person. Hoping he gets rejuvenated a bit being in Boston. Great deal nonetheless.

Not having to play against Hathaway for a change is a plus as well.

Orlov is no Chycrun, but he looks to be a pretty good solid lock top 4 defenseman for our rotation.

These are the kinds of moves you make when you're intent on winning a championship.

Caps also retain 50% of Orlov's salary.

Both of these players are pending RFAs, so I expect us to extend Orlov and say goodbye to Hathaway once the year is up.

Don't hate these moves at all. Craig Smith wasn't doing much, so we mostly gave up draft picks to acquire some pretty good depth pieces.
