The hate on Boeser is so overblown.

He's no Markus Granlund, but it seems like he is garnering a similar amount of angst from the fanbase.

The new whipping boy, so to speak.

If he is still on the team come next year, I can see him having a fantastic season. And I will be interested to see if the strong hate suddenly changes.

The above tweet kind of grabbed my interest. After yesterday's game it felt like Boeser had a lot of multipoint games. I dug pretty deep into his and comparable players' scoresheets and his multipoint games did stand out but it was for games where he had 3 points or more. He's scored 10 points in 3 games. That seemed like a lot. I created a list of players with similar cap hits, points (40-50), and scoring percentage (60 or more). Including Boeser, there are 24 of these players.

You can read this as 22% of Boeser's points have come in 5% of his games. All three players ahead of him have done so in more games. So is Boeser just streaky?

To figure that out I wanted to separate out scoreless games and games with 1-2 points.

Main problem with all this, I'd say damn near every single one of these guys are overpaid. Now I could go deeper and figure out the differences in power play points vs even strength & short handed or differentiate between goals, primary, and secondary assists but not right now.

Not a canuck fan just sneaking around but I have to say, impressive work!

I have figured out who the Canucks should trade Brock to this off season.
My idea might suck for Brock, and rack up HUGE frequent flyer miles but here is the plan:

Trade him to which ever team is going to play against Matt Murray in the first game of the year.
That team then flips Brock to Murray's second game opponent.
Then to the third team.
This can continue until the trade deadline, at which point Brock gets traded to the team that is either most likely to play against Dallas in the play offs; or the team most able to keep Dallas from reaching the play off bar.

Although the Boeser hate is sometimes warranted, I do sometimes think it's a bit overblown. I also think that the WRONG time to trade him would be this offseason, I think we'd get much more for him during next trade deadline if we were going to trade him. I think his defensive gaffs have been minimalized much more than earlier on in the season and am not looking at him as one of the reasons we are losing games... he's also actually producing.

Boeser is not a player that drives a line like a Pettersson or Miller, but he is a player that will produce when played with other good players and has a knack for scoring timely goals. He doesn't drag a lines production down like other players when they get the opportunity to play with our elite players. I think his play over the coarse of the second half of this season has been improved on where he was at the beginning of the season.

His play through April improved as well, I think he's been one of the players that has benefitted from bringing in a new coach that is helping maximize his production... this also helps his trade value. I think if we had traded him at the deadline the return would have been pretty bleak. He's been on pretty close to a 30g/80p per 82 pace. Not a large sample size for sure, but if he's returning to form he's a much better player than when he was going through his issues with his father, etc. He seems to be rounding out into form and playing better.

Maybe at the start of the season it was an 'either-or" for Boeser and Kuzmenko. But Kuzmenko has separated himself and earned a new two-year conract.

The 'either-or' is now between Boeser and Garland. They can keep one, but not likely both. And appears to me that Garland has the inside track, simply because he can better move up and down the roster and play on any line.

Would be hard to say who they'd move. Who would they get more for?

I think Boeser is likely to always produce more but Garland has that drive and compete level that he's known for and is slightly cheaper and slightly older.

Garland's highest goal season is 22. Boeser has already topped that 4 times and likely would have this year as well. If he carries on how he's been playing the last couple of months into next season, he could hit 30 goals.

Isn’t it Garland vs Boeser vs Beaulivier?

Seems Garland brings the best compete level and is close on speed and hands, Beaulivier brings the most speed, while Boeser brings the best hands but very clearly is the slowest.

We need get rid off 3 of: Myers, OEL, and the wingers to have room to add anyone substantial.

Haven't see a HF poll on it, but what are the odds that Boeser's career with the Canucks is into its final four games?

Is it 50/50, or even more lopsided in terms of a likely trade?

Will take some serious guts to trade this guy. Seems attached to the city and also a popular guy in the dressing room. Trading him is the right move but I forsee management electing to move on with Garland instead.

It's the only way to go imo. Team cannot compete with his boat anchor of a contract and him taking ice time away from people who deserve it.

He's the OEL on forwards except at least he appears to be moveable.

Makes sense. It wasn’t just speed. He genuinely seemed uninterested in playing most nights, and it showed mostly on the defensive end where he was the worst defensive forward in hockey.

There’s a spot for 2020-2021 Brock Boeser on a competitive hockey team. He was genuinely effective on the walls and hitting the right lanes. Every other variation, there isn’t.

There is an argument in favor of him that will always remain that he has shown to be effective on the PP, and that he has previous chemistry with both C’s. Garland cannot make those same arguments, but he can actually drive a 3rd line offensively. Beauvillier looked terrible towards the end. I still think he’s a fine 7th forward though.

I think up until the final few weeks, the decision was obvious to move on. At least in terms of picking one of Garland/Beauvillier/Boeser to make cap space for a 3c. He seems accountable now. Whether he can work hard enough to get some dynamic aspects of his game back and improve on his effort/consistency/details defensively is a different story.

Why would it take guts? Trade his ass immediately. Everyone loses loved ones Brock, you aren’t unique. I feel for anyone going through difficult times but this was a puzzling interview

I encourage you to see which forward out of the 1 billion that played this season ranked second worst in the NHL in GA/60.

Only Foudy, him, and Dickinson were giving up more than 4 GA/60.

He was the worst defensive forward I watched all season.

Incredibly shallow statement.

Boeser was honest about how he has been handling losing his father. I don't see someone pandering for sympathy.

Also, everyone loses loved ones but its still a spectrum. Not everyone loses their father at such a young age. So yeah, I'd say that's a pretty uniquely shitty situation.

Have some compassion. Not everyone deals with loss the same.

Hate is a strong word for Boeser however reason people use the word with him is his contract. He's a very 1 dimensional player that is slow as molasses. Yah sure he puts up points but nothing special really and really what else does he do? Can't hit, not a checker, can't skate, huge cap hit and his shot has never been what we saw rookie year again. He should have never been signed to this deal but everyone keeps making excuses for him. He'll be better next year I keep hearing hell I thought same but he's just not that good. Retain a million if someone will take him I say.

Been trying to gather my thoughts about the article. The best way I can put it is that there seems to be a constant excuse for his poor play and if he didn’t want to be there for this season he should have taken a leave of absence.

Incredibly shallow statement.

Boeser was honest about how he has been handling losing his father. I don't see someone pandering for sympathy.

I literally said I was empathetic to his loss. It sucks. But he came into camp in brutal shape after drinking with his buddies at da beauty league. Hopefully he can focus on hockey this summer.

Still needs to be traded.

The problem about this player isnt just about production. He does nothing if hes not scoring. Doesnt PK, doesnt hit, doesnt have speed, doesnt win faceoffs, doesnt fight, doesnt play defense, oh and also he cant create for himself. He NEEDS a playmaker to feed him. He cant penetrate the defense, and his shot isnt good enough to beat goalies from the circle anymore.

When you factor all of these in and the fact that he gets prime opportunity on 5 on 5 and PP? He has negative value.

He would have to score 35-40 and put up 75 points to justify having this player.

"Hoping he gets his act together next year" is a sad ass mantra. Of course we hope that, but at some point we have to come to the realization that he is what he is. On a faster, more defensively sound team, maybe he's a good piece. The Canucks are not that team.
