According to Staples, Carkner will be signing an AHL deal with BP and possibly be used in a player/coach role.

This is a very good thing. The team needs some veteran assistance and he can teach the youngins a few things on how to fight.

See this as a nice and solid move.

Agreed. Carkner was a good citizen when here. I think he will be good for the bridge.

Yes and he has been a good citizen in the AHL-- Never shy about sticking up for his teammates and apparently he is good in the locker room. Glad he'll be back in the A where he is still a serviceable d-man.

He's also pretty active in the community concerning charities, definitely a good guy and a positive role model for the kids. We could do a lot worse as a #10 d-man in case of emergency. This definitely looks like a springboard into a future role in management with the Isles.

He needs to teach Mayfield how to fight, that would be a big plus.

Eric Cairns' future replacement?

To echo everyone else, Carkner in the AHL is a good thing. He is plenty willing to stick up for his teammates and brings NHL experience to a locker room of mostly under 24 year olds.

I saw the other day the preseason schedule for the Islanders was released and I was checking it out. I recently moved from PA to Connecticut and live less than 10 minutes from Webster Bank Arena now. I know last year in early October the Islanders played a game there against the Bruins and they iced what pretty much ended up being their opening day roster for the game. Any chance something like that could happen again this year? Is a preseason game in Bridgeport like that usually an annual thing?

Either way, definitely looking forward to getting to my fair share of Sound Tigers games this season.

Welcome to CT!!!
No preseason isle game in bport this year. Not an annual thing. I went to that game. Boychuck was still on the bruins... Not anymore!
Webster bank is great arena, but expensive for an AHL game. Two roads brewery has a concession stand and some decent pizza and other food.

Check out CT's college teams too. Quinnipiac and Yale put out great teams every year.
Come to Hartford and check out the Uconn hockey team. Plus, you can see the sound tigers for cheaper when they play the crappy wolfpack at the XL center.

I think Im going to do a couple of BST games this year.

Between the lovely ride to Port Jeff. The delightful cruise across the Sound, and then the relaxing walk to the arena, it beats the ride to BK!

Bridgeport schedule just came out.

www.soundtigers.com

Just got tickets for November 21 when Bridgeport plays in Utica. The Utica Auditorium is a small building (about 3,800 capacity) so bought the tickets already. Some scenes from the classic movie Slapshot were filmed there.

Was here two years ago when Bridgeport was last in Utica (a win), saw Strome, Lee, Mayfield, ect.

Anyone here willing to try and make some new lines post-Grabner trade?

Not really, but seeing Finn and Nilsson added to that D and Gibson, a long time international player for Finland (yes, he's Finnish!) is already HUGE!

Beck may stick around on the Island from the get-go. But if not, he's an automatic first liner in the AHL in my book.

What I don't know is where Verhaeghe, who's the best prospect in the deal, fits in at this point. Definitely old enough and ready for the AHL. I'd love to see him here learning from Quine this season.

Of course, who knows what'll happen if Snow is looking to make a big pitch for a topflight Dman. Maybe a kid like Verhaeghe will be going the other way?

I was a big fan of Finn in his draft year, but it seems like he got "Reinhart-itis" :sarcasm:, and hasn't been able to catch up to the pro game. He got injured at the beginning of last year and didn't really get back on track it seems.

Nilsson seems like he's solid in his own zone. From the few clips I've watched he seems to play like Stralman.

I don't know where Verhaeghe slots into BPort's lineup either, but he got some nice kudos last year in the OHL coaches polls in I believe the Smartest Player and Best Faceoff categories. It'd be nice to see him work his way up the lineup as the season went on.

As far as Beck, he's already got a full season of NHL games under his belt. I think he spends most of the year in the AHL and maybe replaces Bernier next year?

Don't know anything about Gibson other than his respectable year in the AHL last year.

Kind of sounds like Quine, eh?
