Went to the game on Sunday. Didn't get to see any goals unfortunately but just a few observations: didn't really focus too much on Bolduc away from the puck but overall he looked pretty solid. Iskhakov was easily the most noticeable Isle offensively. Kid got a couple of chances just from his speed alone on partial breaks, but he's also shifty as hell. Created a few opportunities. He's pretty creative with the puck and really didn't shy away from the battles along the boards either. I was impressed.

Holmstrom surprised me too. Don't know why but I didn't expect him to have as much skill as he displayed. He looks like a solid all around player. Raty as well. Had no idea before but Bridgeport just parks him in front on the PP. Not sure if that's the best use for him but it was still pretty interesting to see him in a role like that. He also looked like one of their main PKers. Nice to see him relied upon in defensive roles like that. Overall he played a solid game, but that line as a whole didn't accomplish much. Dufour looked a little disappointing. Turned the puck over a bunch. Resulted in that line getting hemmed in a decent amount.

I'm not sure if what I saw today has been the norm so far prior to this game, but if it is, it makes Iskhakov's totals even more impressive. He was on a line with Koivula and Fasching(I believe). Not exactly offensive weapons. On top of that it looked like he was relegated to the 2nd PP unit. I think he has a chance to be a pretty damn good player. At the very least he provides us something that really no one on the team outside of Barzal provides, which is offensive creativity. Excited to see him eventually get his shot.

The way you describe Ish. I'm imagining a smaller pass first version of Ziggy Palffy...wasn't the fastest but had great edges and anticipation

Interesting comp, although Ish didn't seem afraid to shoot whenever he had the opportunity. He very much seemed like a shoot-first kind of player, granted this was based off one game.

Palffy had elite agility. He could just casually slide around the opposition.
Palffy averaged about 3.7 shots per game with shooting % of 15.6% as an Islander.
For comparison Barzal averages 2.3 shots per game for a shooting % of 10.3%. (11.2% prior to this season)

While Palffy scored a lot more goals their point totals (production) are nearly identical in approximately the same number of games played. (Looking at Palffys Islander totals only)

I am most focused on Barzal shooting percentage where he may actually be better served dishing the puck off to his line mates as he has been doing more so this season. While I think Barzal is proving to be an elite playmaker, he just does not have the scoring hands of elite goal scorers.

As for Iskhakov, he also does not shoot much so far, but has 4 goals in 13 shots and 10 assists in a very small sample size of 10 games

was in Hershey this weekend for family trip so went to the two games, Iskhakov is nifty with puck and plays with good effort. The skating isn’t too bad but he’s tiny. He looks like a guy who could produce some on PP but not sure what his even strength upside Is. Raty and Dufour need time and IMO aren’t near NHL this season but you seeing in person for first time after watching all the games on AHL tv i noticed Raty plays with an edge which is nice to see. Holmstrom is pretty close to being ready, he looks like kid who will produce more at NHL level as he made really some good plays that were not finished or developed by guys around him. To me right now with watching all their games Durandeau is first forward call up and Bolduc is first defenseman call up. In addition Schneider looks like he is really healthy and looks like NHL goalie in AHL.

I just noticed that last week Cosgrove and MacKinnon were recalled to the B-Isles. I assume Grant Hutton is still banged up.

Also, Vincent Sevigny scored his first goal. Congratulations.

Sevigny actually has two goals now.

Five points in seven games, not bad for what was essentially a ‘walk-on’ from juniors.

Also according to the B-Isles “beat writer”, both Hutton and LaDue were banged up which prompted the recalls of both Cosgrove and MacKinnon.

Baby Isles lose 4-1 tonight.

Soshnikov in at RW.

Who isn’t in the lineup you might ask? Dufour is the answer. Maybe there’s a valid reason but otherwise wtf.

Bridgeport plays Friday/Saturday/Sunday.

It's pretty common for rookies to get scratched for at least one of the three games in this situation.

Holmstrom with 6 shots is nice to see. That's more than 25% of the shots Bailey has taken all season.

Also Sevigny was on the de facto top pairing with Wotherspoon.

That was the first of 3 games in 3 nights. Dufour did warm up yesterday. Maybe he's a little sore or maybe it's having some work loads managed ahead of a 3 in 3. Let's see if he plays tonight vs WB-Scranton.

As for last night's game, Alex Lyon was a lot better in net for Charlotte than Jakub Skarek was for Bridgeport.

I watch all the games and Dufour is banged up a bit and also has struggled a bit as well especially with neutral zone turnovers. He had bad one in Hershey that got him benched last week That lead to a goal against. Tonight was rough one as they controlled game but couldn’t score and gave up three scoring chances all night that all ended up in their net.

Getting my first live look at Ruslan Ishkakov. He is bigger than Golyshev

Ishkakov looks like a legit 5’ 9” with a solid upper body.

Isles get an ENG from Wotherspoon fir a 4-2 come from behind win.

Chippy game from beginning to end. Not a lot of open ice. But nobody shrank back. Bolduc, Raty, Sevigny, Ishkakov all were solid.

The other BPT goals by Dufour, Koivula, McLean.

IMO time to see Koivula and see if there is any NHL hope for him especially with the open spot on roster currently.

I’m not really sure what we should want out of Koivula at this point. Just to not look outmatched when he gets an opportunity to play?

I think he’s a winger if anything, they kept him around which surprised me so there is someone in organization that believes there is potential.

Too slow for NHL
To play C in today’s NHL, yes. I don’t think he has made enough strides 🤭in the skating department after the move from LW to C to be an option there.

He came up as a LW and moved to C as I think he saw a path to the NhL as a C with size. we had an opening there before we traded for JGP.

With our depth at C now, I wouldn’t mind seeing what he could do on the wing. He needs to show more grit for a player of his size. I say put him next to Barzal and put him in front of the net.
