Have only been able to see the highlights (which often leave much to be desired at the AHL.tv site), but boy has the goaltending looked regularly lacking and sometimes just downright brutal.

You don't always see everything in how a goal is generated with these highlights, but the number of weakass goals that look to be 100% on the goaltender is astounding. The expressions on the faces and body language of the skaters in front of them are often quite telling about what's going through their minds out there.

PS) Speaking of highlights, I mean they are often REALLY bad at the AHL site. Often just cuts of scenes here and there. Often with just background music. No pointing out what the score is at any given time - sometimes not even at the end of the game. Sometimes they don't even finish a scene where a goal is scored. It's shocking to me because not only does every major European league have solid, well-cut, thorough 3-6 minute highlight videos of every game, but so too do a majority of the 2nd level leagues. The second league here in Germany often has like 8+ minute long highlights showing every goal in the game, often from 3-4 different vantage points. And that's for every game in league play.

How the frack does the AHL not have something somewhat similar to that, much less their NHL partner???

There's no market for it.

That's just it... As if the market for the DEL2 or HockeyAllsvenskan is even near as big as that of the North America-wide AHL that is chock full of prospects on the way up?

I mean even the 3rd league in Germany (not all teams) and 2nd league in Austria has some teams with very complete and thorough highlights after every weekend, usually including an interview after twards with 1 member of each team.

Just bugs me that we can't always count on a solid 5-minute highlight thread showing the good, the bad, and the uglyuglyugly of our baby Islanders.

Good to see. And the team won 5-4.

However, they were up 4-0, so they really let their opponent back in it.
I would love to know what happened in OT. How do you take a too many men penalty at 3 on 3??? And at the end of the game, Helgeson and Duszak. Spearing majors and game misconducts for both. Must have been a beaut.

Even more like father, like son last night.

Took a 3-0 lead into the third. Naturally lost 4-3 in OT.

Get it all out if the organization's blood in one year
It's laughably funny, kind of like Leicester's Premier League championship . . .
I really like the progression of the season

If Pivonka has been called up, that's fine by me. Interestingly, he has as many points in 24 ECHL games as he had in 37 NCAA games last season, his 5th - and most productive - in college hockey. Funny how those things work.

Fritz wasn't changing much anyways. 1 goal and 7 points in 20 games is a joke for a player with his AHL record.

And with the way things have been going, might as well let all the guys still dreaming of making the show one day get their reps in.

I continue to watch the highlights and see goals going in that are 100% on the goalie. Appleby hasn't looked great, but Skarek seems to let in a backbreaker or two every single game. The body language of his teammates in those highlights is telling.

Be they UFA signings or drafted, I'd like to see Latvian Dman Niks Fenenko and Finnish forward Jere Lassila joining this organization by next season.

Was Lennox called up to replace Appleby?

I’m going to Hartford for the B-Isles tomorrow. Would love to see someone other than Skarek or Appleby in goal.

No, Henrik Tikkanen was called up and is making his first career AHL start tonight.

Remember, he was the Finnish 7th rounder that is about 6’7” and was never signed by the Islanders but kept in the system on a contract with Bridegport.

You’ll probably see Skarek tomorrow.

Am I the only one that’s not particularly impressed by these types of goals?

Yes, it makes a good highlight but there’s nothing there that translates to a likelihood of NHL success.
I agree. Reminds me of Filatov pre-draft videos. They were all breakaways. So what?

Lou was very impressed by that move. He's offering him around the league as we speak. ;)
I just want to say that, this move is easy to discount as over excessive and flashy. Something Lou has a reputation of not appreciating. But if a player has the hands to execute this move, it can be highly effective.

Since the goalie HAS to respect the player going to the forehand, it leaves very little else to stop the scorer suddenly going to the other side.

Also, Lou always like his dash of skill (Mogilny, Kovalchuk, Barzal etc.) after he has his goaltending and defense in place.
