It feels weird saying this but I hope it’s due to a minor injury rather than attitude/poor play.

I understand the discipline aspect if it’s related to poor play but that would warrant no more than a one game scratch. These are kids that need ice time as much as possible.

I think it's the sophomore slump.

In addition, the team has gobs of forwards. I don't think he'd be benched just because he's not producing. If a young player is doing the little things right, he keeps playing.

Bridgeport’s already hung Jakub Skarek out to dry twice in the 1st period this morning. One SHG and one 3 man odd man rush because their slow footed defense got beat back.

End 1st period:
Syracuse 3
B-Isles 0

No Wil Dufour again today. Still not sure if he’s injured or not.

4-3. Brian Pinho picks up the lose change on tic-tac-toe passing from MacLean and Hutton. 4:33 left in the 3rd.

Thanks for all the updates @MJF.

Cool to see them make a comeback.

But as an outfit that is having trouble scoring, it's a bit depressing to see that all the goals being scored in this late offensive charge are being, well, scored by guys who are not future Islanders.

BTW, Skarek's GAA has been over 3.00 while the SV% has been sub-.900 in all 4 seasons where he's been part of the BPort construction. SHOCKING that this continues to be the case thru 8 contests this season.

I was at Skarek’s last 2 starts. I didn’t think he played poorly in either game. He’s was victimized by some really shoddy defense. The goals he’s giving up are being scored on his doorstep.

Then there was last seasom and the one before that where I thought Skarek was atrocious.

At the end of the day a scout, a goalie coach, a management type has to decide whether Jakub Skarek’s stats are telling the story. I guess they are.

Just saw the highlights.

Didn't realize that Syracuse's first two goals were both shorthanded.

Fantastic!

Groshev got the hattrick on 2 shorties and an empty net. Don't see that everyday.

I can't really say Skarek "should" have had any of those 4 goals against. The first two were 2-on-1s (both looked a bit predictable), the 3rd came off a quick follow-up on a weird and unexpected bounce, and the fourth was a quick one-time rocket directly off a deflected puck in the high slot.

Interesting is that when BPort scored in the last minute with the pulled goalie, they had MacLean and Maggio out there for the 6-on-5, which led to the Bardreau tip in.

This defense (Helgeson, Salo, Hutton, Cholowski, LaDue) is what Corey Schneider played behind. He too was victimized many nights, yet somehow he managed to play to a save percentage over .910 his last 2 seasons while Skarek has never had a percentage over .900. That's what I mean by Skarek's stats ultimately telling his story.

Again, I'm not laying the team's poor start on Skarek. On the contrary. I think he's been better than I've ever seen him before. Unfortunately the results are what matter and they've ended up with him taking most of the losses.

Can't blame Brent Thompson for these Ls.

Dufour not in the lineup again tonight. Has to be injured. Don't think they would healthy scratch him 4 games in a row.

NOV 17

The boys lost 5-4 in Hershey.

Another late comeback was too little, too late. The team had dug 4-0 and 5-1 holes.

A couple of points for Iskhakov and Koivula, who appear to be playing on the same line.

B-Isles lose 4-0 to Hershey, get swept in a home and home. They play again tomorrow afternoon at home vs Providence in the last of a 3 in 3.

Lotsa luck.

It’s not a good team and the defense core is really bad, Helgeson is kinda like Lee as the captain as he can’t skate at all. Dufour is hurt, Maggio has played ok but is going through the growing pains of first pro season.

In an interview in The Hockey News this week Rck Kowalsky was very complimentary of the B-Isles defense corps. While it’s true they aren’t getting outshot by big margins, they allow a bunch of goals from below the hash marks and on the doorstep. Goalies really don’t have a chance when you get 2 or 3 whacks at the puck standing in the crease.

I’ve seen 3 of their 7 home games so far and I think the defense is no better than last year.

Baby Isles win 2-1 in OT.

Ishakov with both goals. Here’s the game winner. One can’t help but think he’ll get a call up soon if things don’t turn around on the Island.

Nice goal. He manufactured that entire sequence.

What do you have to lose. Throw him on the 3rd (or 1st) line, see what he can do. If it amounts to nothing, so be it. Wouldn’t be much different to what’s going on right now anyway.

Isk looks elusive enough to get away with a lack of NHL speed; though he did put the burners on for that goal.

His package of puck skills, agility, and elusiveness reminds me of a poor man's Palffy.
give the kid a chance atleast, he may get creamed along the boards eventually so shelf life may not be too long. Would help the PP no?

There’s a rumor going around on Twitter that Dufour is back in Quebec dealing with a personal issue, but is apparently his Mom (who has a history of breast cancer) is OK.

At this point, they should try swapping Gauthier for Cholowski or Salo. Pinho needs some help on the veteran side of the scoring (Kuhlman’s been junk), and Gauthier would be better served playing games and skating.

They should be starting to phase out Aho and should just see if they can catch lighting in a bottle for a few games with Cholo/Salo.
