Gonna like the look of BPort with the team now having so many bodies of players who the Isles have drafted or signed, but I was just looking at that roster for the Marlies and holy crap, have they hoarded up on interesting players.

Already found it wild that they got to sign O'Brien and Mastrosimone, but that's only the tip of the iceberg.

Since the Laffs can’t win a SC they are trying for an AHL title.

I think the reasonable answer is that you have to ice a competitive pro team in the Greater Toronto Area and MLSE (I’m assuming they also also own the Marlies) have the deepest pockets of any AHL team.

I just think they are obsessed with winning at any level at any cost.

This is actually not as of sarcastic take as I think you were making it out to be…
I don't necessarily disagree with the refrain that TOR is the center of the hockey universe (although MTL might lay claim in reality based on Cup wins). However, it almost makes the lack of success worse. Despite the built-in advantage, they don't win. Or maybe it's really a disadvantage? :dunno:

15 forwards. That's quite a few. That's not even inlcuding guys like Piercey.

Looks to me like Fritz, Dufour, Iskhakov, and Durandeau could be bearing the grunt of the offensive responsibility, even if Kuhlman and Koivula certainly should be able to contribute a chunk. Other than that, here's hoping Maggio does this year what Dufour did last season. I keep penciling him in for 20-25 goals. Unfair?

Bardreau, Kubiak, Pinho, Asselin, Cates, and MacLean - plenty of pluggers here.

With all these older guys, sure hope this doesn't turn into one of those "lost seasons" for a kid like Liukas who could have just been left in his prime role for a Liiga team?

And hard to imagine that Newkirk will have much of a role here. If he does, then we'll know he's earned it.

The blueline is as expected. Dunno if Mitchell and Fulp will be worked in slowly or if a guy like Sevigny sees them ahead of him in the pecking order all of the sudden. I thought both Mitchell and Fulp were interesting in their preseason action. But it definitely looks like Salo and Cholowski will be the PP blueliners, which is good. In essence, both have a given top 4 role to lose.

Also, it looks like Lennox will start things off in Worcester. Seems like plenty of organizations have been introducing their young goalies to the pros via the ECHL in recent years. Skarek is at that point where he finally needs to be in 50-some games. Can he actually produce a GAA below 3.00 or a SV% above .900? That has yet to be seen.

Appleby will keep them honest. He should be entering all of this thinking he's one Russian injury away from a possible NHL back-up debut.

Game winner for Ruslan. Wahlstrom or Holmstrom better produce cause this kid wants to play in the NHL.
Yea, good season opener for Ruslan with 2 goals and an assist.
Maybe Lou soured on the kid after his between the legs shootout goal where he raised his hands in the air looking at the crowd. It was a bit showboaty I guess and Lou loves his "character" guys and guys who play like "men" lol.
Sadly, if there are any injuries in the top 9. Guys like Gauthier, Holmstrom, Durandeau and Dufour will most likely be ahead of him. I do feel like they need a dynamic player like him injected into the line up.

The Islanders outshot the Amerks 42-27 and went 1-for-2 on the power play, including Arnaud Durandeau’s clutch game-tying goal late in the third period.

Dufour had EIGHT shots in Bridgeport's season opener.

Pinho with a career high 4 assists, Iskhakov with 2 goals and an assist, Maggio with an assist.

Kowalsky might be the real deal...

If Holmstrom doesn't work out with Barzal and Horvat, I wonder if Iskhakov could be a fit with them on the wing? He seems like a playmaker and shooter, which would work well.
Not likely
Holmstrom is starting with the other two to free them up from playing third man high
His role will be to read the play off puck and gain possession on the boards
Isk would fit better for Engvall should Pierre be injured

Wholeheartedly agree. Ruslan will be a liability with his defense play. Gets ragged doll around the boards due to his diminutive size but the puck sticks to his blade as if it’s tied to a string and he snipes. Has pluses but has minuses as well. And even with that being said he will play 500 games in the NHL. He’s Josh Ho Sang who actually gives a you know what.

Maybe RW with JGP and Lee then?

Perhaps. Listen injures happen. Wahlstrom and Gauthier are in front of him and I don’t see the Islanders trading Wahlstrom for a 2nd and 3rd to make space for him but if we attain three injuries I think it will be hard to bring up Kouivula or Durandeau before him. 2 games in and he has 4 points.

Ruslan with 2 assist tonight in a 4-2 loss. Pinho also scored which gives them both 5 points in 2 games.
