BPT lost at home this afternoon 3-2 to Lehigh Valley, one of the teams they were within reach of. With only 6 games left and being 3 points behind Hartford for the last playoff spot, and now 6 points behind LV their playoff hopes took a big hit today.

This was a game that really wasn’t as close as the score indicated. For the first half of the game the Phantoms kept the Isles hemmed in their own end. Fast puck movement and an aggressive forecheck smothered the Isles. The Phantoms ran out of gas in the 3rd period as they couldn't maintain their breakneck tempo and allowed the Isles to finally gain momentum, but too little too late. Very disappointing.

Thanks for reporting on this, even if the outlook in BPort is bleak.

I think their season was sunk when the Islanders took a huge chunk of their roster.

100%.

This is the life of the fan of an AHL team. It exists to feed talent to the big club. Sometimes you lose your players to the parent team and it can kill your season.

Also, what isn’t being reported is William Dufour missed his 2nd straight game with an alleged shoulder injury he sustained in Hartford last week. He was driven into the boards and left that game.

S.O.P

Bridgeport was eliminated from the playoff race last night with an 8-2 home loss to Wilkes Barre-Scranton.

I have to believe if the Islanders hadn't called up as many of BPTs players as they did they would have been a slam dunk to make the playoffs this year.

Unfortunately, that's life in the AHL. It's the nature of the beast.

They signed Krygier as well.

They also added Riley Piercey as a UFA. He had 70 points in 67 games for the Flint Firebirds this season.

Pivonka and Krygier are getting the Bibeau and Coskey treatment, which is logical in light of their less than stellar 5-year college stats. However, both are more about preventing goals than scoring them.

These three are the only baby Islanders under contract just now.

Looking at BPort from an NYI prospects standpoint (meaning, with a contract from the NYI or still NYI property), we get the following:
G
- Appleby
- Lennox
- Skarek RFA

D
- Salo
- Hutton
- Cholowski
- LaDue
- Fulp
- Mitchell

F
- Andreoff
- Koivula
- Durandeau
- Maggio
- Newkirk
- Iskhakov
- Dufour
- Jenkins RFA
- Adams RFA

I can imagine Chris re-upping Sevigny and MacLean.

Then there will need to be something done about replacing Terry and Bardreau, should they not be re-signed.

FWIW I hope there's room for Chris Terry next season. He's a legit AHL scorer, something a minor league team always needs to stay competitive. It's not always just about developing prospects. A minor league team still has to compete every game.

Why not keep Bardreau wasn’t he one of the leagues best players?

What are the chances of that ever happening again?
Nada, zip, zero.

Because Lou is going to trade Cizikas and going to promote the best goal scorer in the AHL to the Islanders fourth line. :sarcasm:

With respect to Riley Piercey, he was profiled by EP Rinkside in their CHL UFAs report:
