Ya, looks like we are ****ed either way. Burke had full control, for better or for worse, but with meddling ownership, it can take a real quick turn side ways.

well, here's the thing, does Rogers have a history of meddling with the Jays? No. No they do not.

Lets not bash ownership until we know what their plan for the future is.

Great day for Leaf Nation as this has been among the darkest time in Leafs history with the poorest, longest consecutive non playoff streak in team history.

4 years into his tenure and you have a bottom 5 NHL team, would get anyone fired who promised playoff results.

When your teams MLSE execs have to humble themselves and issue public apology letters for the poor results of the team and the GMs performance reflective of that, you know the end is near.

Some very wise people said this season was "Playoffs or Burke or Bust" and that very wise prognostication couldn't have been more accurate.

A clear message from ownership that losing will not be tolerated. That even the "man" will be held accountable.

A great day.

J. Ferguson: 4 years, 4 months (-1.0 lockout year) ---- 162-123-43 - 92pt pace
Brian Burke: 4 years, 2 months (-0.5 lockout year) ---- 136-144-48 - 80pt pace

I wouldn't be surprised if this was management pushing for a luongo trade, and Burke refusing.

i am in shock, maybe this is to bring back the fans to MLSE, after all this was burkes shape up or ship out year

Presser at 1:30 just cuz he did not get lou **** this **** **** mother ****er **** the leafs ****in piece of **** garvarnanrnrn

If this is over ownership wanting Luongo, then this is very bad news. Burke was one of the best GMs in the NHL for trades and I trusted our team with him over some rich owners trying to bring in fans by taking shortcuts.

I feel very uneasy about this.
we better get a good ass replacement because atm I don't see any smart ones around that are willing to leave their jobs.

I am beyond livid atm.

I knew you'd be happy!

:D

Is it possible this has to do with Luongo? Maybe Burke didn't want to acquire him and build a team like that but higher ups wanted leafs to push for a playoff spot sooner? Conflict of interest?

I don't know. Just someone brought it up on habs board, figured i'd ask if it seems plausible.

A massive disagreement between him and the board???

Over Luongo??? only real thing i can think of....any other ideas?

What a way to do it - 3 days after the lockout ends ahahaha Perfect.

Remind me again why I wanted this lockout to end. Us Leaf fans would have been better off if they just shut down the season.

This is embarassing.

For the people out there cheering this move...

Please realize this is like pressing the reset button.

There is absolutely no guarantees the new GM will come in and want to tank. For all we know it could be some young impressionable guy like JFJ who MLSE can "mould" which means... make him do what we want.

I'll reserve judgement until we get word on the replacement... but from the outset this looks like an awful awful move for an organization that was just starting to form an identity
