If this is over ownership wanting Luongo, then this is very bad news. Burke was one of the best GMs in the NHL for trades and I trusted our team with him over some rich owners trying to bring in fans by taking shortcuts.

I feel very uneasy about this.

This has nothing to do with Luongo. Rogers/Bell probably don't even know who Luongo is.

This is some behind the scenes scandal for sure.

Sigh, and yea this means we may now overpay for Luongo. Hopefully Nonis remains as GM.

You gotta be kidding me. This team just got over the worst of its days and is on the uprise. What is this timing? ****

Big mistake, he was a smart compassionate guy

It's clear the new ownership wants to win now! This doesn't make any sense at all. I am disappointed in this organization once again.

This makes absolutely no sense.

Why cripple the management of the team as it starts the season?

Why let him sit around doing nothing all summer and then can him now?

There is way more to this story than meets the eye.

The timing of this suggests it was a reactionary move by ownership...ie, they tried to intervene and he said "my way or the highway" and they said highway.

Really don't like this.
That's my fear in this matter - the meddling ownership is back. Now if it is personal, such as that affair rumour, that would be completely different, and entirely justifiable.

While he hasn't exactly done a great job here, I'm not lookin forward to see who or what the replacement is...this short season is gonna be a long one I fear.

As a Habs Fan, I hope it doesn't mean a ridiculous overpayment for Luongo. He proved not to be the answer in Vancouver and you were on a good path for the playoffs with a number of good young players (Gardiner, Reilly, Frattin, etc,). I hope it turns good for you guys.

Great day for Leaf Nation as this has been among the darkest time in Leafs history with the poorest, longest consecutive non playoff streak in team history.

4 years into his tenure and you have a bottom 5 NHL team, would get anyone fired who promised playoff results.

When your teams MLSE execs have to humble themselves and issue public apology letters for the poor results of the team and the GMs performance reflective of that, you know the end is near.

Some very wise people said this season was "Playoffs or Burke or Bust" and that very wise prognostication couldn't have been more accurate.

dreams do come true!

Would you be happier if they just let him be a lame duck, rode out the season, and didn't resign him due his to abysmal track record?

It's not like he was fired after one year, this is years of futility.

Neither do I, this is just absurd.

Exactly. This could be bad. Could not be bad... but could be bad.

I wonder if we're entering another time of organizational in-fighting like in the mid-1990's.

I don't like it at all, a team looking for a fresh start with a coach hired by the GM is fired? What kind of a good start is that?

Ya, looks like we are ****ed either way. Burke had full control, for better or for worse, but with meddling ownership, it can take a real quick turn side ways.

I have NO CLUE WHAT TO THINK ABOUT THIS!!.... I AM ****** SHOCKEDDDD

I'm devastated and sad.

I can't fathom why they would do this. This doesn't make sense.

I'm really discouraged about this organization right now. Burke haters obviously won't share the same sentiment, but he has made some amazing trades. In my humble opinion, any other GM wouldn't have been able to salvage this ship in the time Burke was given (a la Obama vs. Romney).

He has made some incredible trades. He's done a lot for the community. Some people may find him abrasive, but he knows very well what he stands for and why - that can be hard to see for some people.
