As he has zero times in the past 2 seasons.
obviously 20 minutes was exagerated but h was getting 15-18 minutes right before he got injured

The guy is out there every other shift on the PK. If the team takes 8 minutes in penalties, which is not uncommon, that's ~ 4 minutes of PK time.
That means he plays ~11-13 minutes at ES and at the end of a PP. Let's not act like that is a ton of time. He is also out there for defensive zone draws as a 2nd option. His versatility allows for him to garner minutes in specific situations. Because he is good at certain things, it increases his TOI.
Apparently this is a difficult concept for most people to understand.
in that game he actually took at least 1 penalty, maybe 2 i cant remember exactly. the reason boyles toi spiked over the past few games was because torts used him on the pp. thats not that hard to understand. i would also like to say that the pk has been perfect and the pp has been scoring without boyle
If you think the PK has and will improve without Boyle I don't know what to tell you. He shouldn't be on the PP, I agree. However he was doing a good job of getting to the front of the net and retrieving pucks down low.
the problem is boyle wont play 4th line he will get 20 minutes a night
i didnt say the pk improved but it hasnt crumbled either. boyles defensive abilities are good but very overrated and his offensive abilities...well he has none. his above average defense does not make up for his abysmal offense. he should not get anything more than 4th line minutes and pk time
I agree, except he will also see more defensive zone time added because of his face-off skills. That leads to about 10-13 minutes a game on average. That is where he should play. Unfortunately, due to injuries and the lack of progression from Kreider, Miller, and Hrivik this season, Boyle has been forced to play on the 3rd line. Not the end of the world, but he is a 4th line player.
Either that or your drawing a conclusion too big for the sample your drawing it from?pyatt is doing a much better job on the third line than boyle was. pyatt is not a good hockey player. on the ofher hand boyle is so bad offensively that he made everyone around him worse. obviously pyatt isnt good, worse defensively but no where near as bad offensively

Would you like to know why Pyatt looks good? Richards.
You are taking a very small sample size and using that as the rule. Boyle has been better than Pyatt for most of the season.

yes beaves has been great as of late but he really took off as soon as he got a player who is almost mediocre offensively
Are you saying he'd refuse to play on the 4th line if Torts puts him there or Torts wouldn't play him on the 4th?
If it's the latter, then your beef should be with Torts not Boyle.
I would rather the Rangers get a good d prospect or a good pick(s) in return for Boyle. Eminger fits the system and in the locker room. He should be retained. Let MDZ and Moore be the puck-movers for now.
trust me i have a problem with torts
Or he got some lucky bounces and has his confidence back?
Again, I am not saying Boyle should be on the 3rd line, I clearly stated he should not, but people just bashing him for his lack of offense don't quite understand the skills that he does bring and the value that he would bring from the 4th line right now.
i would like to see dorsett on the third when he comes back. boyle is an ideal 4th line center but out brilliant tactician throws him out on the 2nd and 3rd lines along with pp time
Makes more sense, Why bash Boyle for something he has no control over?

We will disagree on Eminger.
I just find it interesting that we kept hearing rumors of the Rangers looking for a RD then McBain was scratched, then Pitkanen got injured and the Rangers didn't trade for a RD.

I don't see a spot for him with Dorsett (hopefully) being ready to go for the playoffs. We kill penalties fine without Boyle and the only way I put Boyle in the lineup is to replace Powe, who I regard as an equal at this point. Boyle's defense is incredibly overrated and he offers no real value in the offensive zone. Maybe Dorsett can serve as a new version of Prust for Boyle to play with and that will give him a spark but I really won't miss him in the lineup at all. I have him behind 12 forwards in terms of importance (Nash, Stepan, Callahan, Zukes, Clowe, Richards, Hagelin, Brassard, Pyatt, Kreider, healthy Dorsett, Asham) and tied with Powe, Miller, Newbury in terms of last foward.
Ha, thanks for the laugh.
So, to review, you dont like Boyle on the 3rd line because he isnt gifted enough offensively, but you want Dorsett on the 3rd line.
