Brian Boyle

In my two years here, he is easily the most hated New York Ranger I've seen through HF.

I do not know why people are upset with Boyle.

He only averages 1.7 million a season.
He only plays 14.2 minutes a game
He is only a minus 13 in 37 games
He already has 5 points this season

What do you guys want? Nobody said he was Mario Lemiuex

How many games has Boyle been out?

I wonderful if our 3 wonderful wins in a row have anything to do with him being gone. :D

Boyle is what he is, Torts just doesn't use him well and allows him to play whatever. pk and 4th line

6-0-0 without boyle.

rangers combined for 30 goals in those 6 games and outscored opponents 30-11.

Could be a situation of addition from subtraction. I certainly saw a noticeable change in our transition this game.

But the previous two games I'm not sure if Boyle would have ruined those two games. Rangers were still sloppy at times in the games with Florida and Buffalo.

Still, I think he better serves the team on the IR than in the lineup.

the only reason this is 100% true is because torts uses him on the 2nd and 3rd lines. forget safe = death, torts + boyle = death

I agree completely. In Boyle we have a very good, perhaps premier 4th line center with size who is good on the PK and in the faceoff circle. It's sad that Torts plays him anywhere else, as he is offensively inept and is put in a position to fail and lose the fan base's support. This team is worse with Boyle in the top-9 and better with him centering the 4th line. Stepan, Richards (of late), Brassard, Boyle should be the best our team has looked at center in a while.

Boyle is a good 4th liner and PK er. Good on face offs and good in the locker room and does try hard, which I respect. But still can be easily replaced

The roster changed recently. What centers were being ignored for Boyle?

I dont believe in this stat is a real indicator but if it somehow it can be made to keep this oaf off our PP, it's good enough for me.

Without Boyle this season:
6-0, outscoring opponents 31-11
5.17 G/Gm
1.83 GA/Gm

boyle gets a lot of unwarranted hate.

I think most of the hate is for the way Torts uses him. I don't hate Brian Boyle. I just hate seeing Brian Boyle in places he doesn't belong, out on the ice when he shouldn't be there. If our centers are Stepan-Richards-Brassard-Boyle that is excellent center depth. If we have Boyle anywhere in the top 9 that weakens our offense. He needs to be our 4C faceoff/PK specialist for this team to be successful!

i don't hate Brian Boyle. I hate that he's out there more than 10 minutes per game. I hate that he's out there in the third period when we're down a goal. I hate that he's out there on the powerplay. In short, it's nothing that Boyle controls. Torts just refuses to see that he's offensively inept.

before boyle got injured wasnt he leading (maybe not top but higher than nash) the team in toi night after night?

Boyle has been here for four years. In those four years he's had one surprising 40-game stretch, one solid two week stretch, and one good playoff game.

You guys have low standards if you think Boyle is a good defensive player. Boyle doesnt lock **** down. He slightly wins more faceoffs than he loses on a nightly basis. Oohh.

One guy on here once compared him to Joel Otto. Please. He either never saw Joel Otto play or never saw Brian Boyle play.

It's gotten to the point where people continue to defend him because they refuse to admit how wrong they are. Boyle is dead weight. He's a 9-12 min a night guy who shouldnt see the ice after the 2nd period.

In the 6 games he hasnt played, the opposing team is 2-for-18 on the power play.

And two of those goals were in garbage time in Buffalo. So in five games Boyle hasnt played, the PK is 14-for-14.

I dont care if its a coincidence or not. The team looks better, skates better, defends better, scores more, looks more confident and is tougher to play against when Boyle is out of the lineup.

Whatever. One more season of him. Thanks for the memories.

Yeah, I can only cement the opinion that nobody is really that angry at Boyle, it's Torts who is the perpetrator here who refuses to play Boyle in his right enviroment. That means no frigging PP time or top 9 time. Let him play center on the 4th line where he can be effective and doesn't neuter our offense in the progress. Boyle is quite alright defensively (when he manages to play physical), but a black hole offensively with an average shot, bad passing, horrible stickhandling and no offensive awareness whatsoever.

Torts always has some lumberjack pet project with some big, slow player who he tries to turn into some copy of Jarome Iginla (Brashear, Boogaard, Scott, Rupp, etc, etc). They're brought in to "be good enough to be used in multiple situations" and then never is. Let's just conclude all these goon/ lumberjack projects haven't turned out that well at all.

Brian Boyle is atleast better than Taylor Pyatt, not that its saying much. There should be a 1 oaf per team rule in the NHL
