Brian Boyle

This reminds me of when Tortorella took over for Renney and they scored some goals in a short stretch and all the anti-Renney crowd went: "SEE?!"

Except this is more ridiculous.

I agree with not reacting to small sample sizes...

But Boyle is terrible..he really is a bad player

The things I've learned from this thread:

- Boyle offers nothing.
- Boyle is Blair Betts.
- Boyle plays 20 minutes a night.
- Ranger fans love Boyle.

mmmkay.

sad that it took this thread to shed that light for you.

I've been saying this for the last 3+ years.

:shakehead

Dorsett has 27 goals and 38 assists in 280 NHL games.

Hes good enough for the 3rd line, but Boyle is not. I find that double-standard to be fascinating. Truly an "anyone but him" mentality.

Dorsett at least has snarl. Boyle has no snarl/questionable toughness (especially for a man his size), takes terrible penalties at the most inopportune times, and brings nothing to the offense.

He's the epitome of expendable.

You know why people hate Boyle? Because he's a freakin' (insert alternate name for feline). People don't respect him. When you bring little to the table, and don't stick up for yourself on countless occasions, you're not gonna get a whole lot of respect. Throw in all his dumb plays and bad penalties and you have a guy people want nothing to do with. That's how I see it.

I was at game 2 vs. Ottawa when he just turtled up and let Carkner wail on him. For a man of his size, he's a HUGE (insert alternate name for female dog).

Still spending alot of time and energy defending Mr. Boyle? Why? You gotta know when to fold 'em..

Thats a classic non-sequitur.

The fact of the matter is that neither player brings much to the offense. So, considering the premium put on offense on this board, why is Dorsett a better option on the 3rd line than Boyle?

My point is - given the parameters as I understand them around here - neither should be on the 3rd line.

I just find this hyperbolic, though.

Boyle is a solid 4th line player being overused and having a pretty crappy year in a season where virtually everyone is having a crappy year.

I'd go as far as saying that unless your name is Nash, Stepan, Lundqvist or Stralman, you're probably having an up and down season.

I'm sure you were making the same snarky remarks about PA Parenteau

I was. I always said I think he was tailor made to produce offensively on terrible teams that ignore or cant compete in other areas of the game. Hes proved me right so far in that regard. I think Zuccarello is on a similar career path.

The NHL is the best league in the world because it doesnt stuff itself with one dimensional players like Parenteau and Zuccarello.

Dorsett was on pace for 30 points in 82 games this season before his injury. That's a good 3rd liner, especially with the added toughness and physical play he can provide on the forecheck.

Boyle was on pace for 10 points in 82 games. With his face-off % and great PK ability, plus his hitting and the fact that he adds some toughness (despite what the haters say) and size he is the ideal 4th liner.

I just find this hyperbolic, though.

100% true

The only players that are fit to play on the third line are Stepan and Callahan.

I don't think of it as defending Boyle, I think of it as fighting for logic and reason.

But I appreciate your concern, Kenny Rogers.

While I would agree that both Dorsett and Boyle offer similar numbers from the 3rd line wing position, I would opine that Dorsett being a better skater alone makes him a better option for the 3rd line.

I would also opine that Dorsett being the better forechecker (better speed and a much higher want to engage physically) is better at opening up the ice for his teammates.

I think putting him on a line with Richards and Ziccs would generate better results than Boyle or Pyatt in that spot.

You do realize he took the punches because he was drawing a penalty right? Boyle is a not a heavyweight. He never will be. However when he drops the gloves, he normally goes with some pretty tough guys. McQuaid? Shelley? Neil? Sestito? Simmonds?

It's obvious you have a blind hatred for a guy who is valuable on a contending team. If you are relying on Boyle to supply the entire team's toughness, you have a problem. If you are relying on Boyle to help carry the offense you have a problem.

He is a 4th line player who blocks shots, wins face-offs, hits, will drop the gloves every now and then, and is difficult to play against for most defensemen due to his size.

Very difficult to grasp obviously....

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Yeah OK......

Zuccarello can't hold P.A.s jock.

Ah, yes. The Jeff Halpern theorem.

So you would have preferred he fought Carkner, for what purpose?

And this discussion is incomplete without mentioning him fighting Jody Shelley in defense of a teammate.

You can write 10 million paragraphs if that makes you feel better. I see what I see. I don't have any "blind" hatred. I don't even hate him, however I certainly don't like him. Boyle is difficult to play against? hahaha sure he is.

Yeah, it's very difficult to grasp because I don't have "blind" love for a guy. Your username makes that very obvious.

We are winning without him. We have better players. He should be in the press box, followed by someone else's team.

It's pointless to argue with you and the mod because you guys have your lips permanently affixed to his rear end.

You can say whatever you want, the rest of us have eyes.

If it wasn't pointless, how would you respond to that? Please humor me.

You might have eyes, but you have zero perspective regarding this team.

True or false, when everyone is healthy, Brian Boyle is one of the top 12 forwards on THIS team. Go.

Why would I write 10 million paragraphs when what I wrote clearly is the facts. That was what, 3?

Have you ever played against someone who is 6'7? Over a 7 game series, it takes it's toll. Why do you think teams look to get BIGGER at the deadline? Hence, harder to play against.

Blind love? I called the guy a 4th liner. While we are making dumb assumptions, I am sure you would rather see Kreider who has shown absolutely nothing all season over Boyle. Good luck with that.

You have no legs to stand on at this point, so you revert to insults. How mature....

What about 1/2 dimensional players like Boyle?
