I agree with this and I like replacing him in the lineup. In saying that, they didn't need to waive him to make that happen

I can't stand contract year players. Which normal person could ever just show up the month before salary negotiations at their work? These guys are paid millions. Smith showed up out of shape, unacceptable but you got to move forward. We are off between 8th and 13th. Smith didn't play on the 8th, it was the second night of a back to back. That is 6 days to really work hard and gear up for the last half of the season. Smith being scratched on the 13th says everything. He went to some beach instead. Don't think you want someone like that around kids. A message must be sent, can't take that and ever expect to win anything.

I hope that him and his wife will enjoy life in Hartford! What a couple of clowns.

Cause it means Pionk gets called up and Kampfer stays in the top 6. AV math....

If claimed he and his contract go away.

If unclaimed, they waive him to show no one claimed him on his current contract, if he does not figure it out this off-season they will have no issue waiving him again next season.

Plus if they waive him, he is not claimed, and some team does want to make a cap dump type trade with hopes of Smith being good for them, he is already waived and they would not need to waive him again to send him down should they find him to not be able to play on their NHL team this year.
