TSN: Brendan Shanahan named President of Toronto Maple Leafs

We could start sucking more by signing Bolland at 5x7 and defenders like Orpik at 5x7.

If either of that happens. I seriously quit for 7 years

I am not wasting my time on a lost cause. I don't expect changes to come swiftly but I want to see some progression towards a goal.

Right now...Leafs are a revolving door of mediocrity. I can only hope we find some way to get out of it.

Heard this once again on Leafs Lunch.
So the guy that actually initiated one of the worst signings in the history of the club, or even the league, is the guy that everybody is looking at to clean up the mess.
Only in Leafland.

If you're going to blame him for Clarkson you have to give him full credit for Bernier then. He is the one that told Nonis to acquire him. Without TL we have Reimer instead and his poor rebound control.

Hopefully Nonis is just like Sherman is in Colorado. Sakic and Roy calls the shots but Sherman does the paperwork.

I can picture Shanny sitting on top of Nonis twisting his nipples forcing him to make a trade like a fat kid giving up his lunch money.

dude...just imagined that in my mind :shakehead

I will quit if we sign more of these "heart and soul" guys with million dollar intangibles until we start rebuilding.

A well respected player and a person who knows every GM in the league... Who also understands what leadership is all about and people on here are stating that he knows nothing... Besides knowing every player in the NHL I guess he knows nothing. He will work with Nonis and then take over. I'm pleased.

Fire Loiselle and Poulin who are in charge of personnel and the cap and put Nonis in their role. Shanahan becomes the GM and does a full edit on the Burke Nonis regime.

Lol, here's hoping his tenure ends up a bit more successful than Brian's. Won't take much to better Burke's tenure in TO

Tell me about it

Burke couldn't even get past the first step. Tear the whole team from the top to the bottom.

Instead, Burke thought it would be nice to try and ice a competitive team by overpaying mediocre players and trading draft picks away

Hopefully this is the beginning of a new era for the Toronto Maple Leafs and not just a two year change that results in another subsequent firing

all this is simply theater, hire someone anyone who can finally teach this team to exit their own end in a reasonable manner and they make the playoffs year after year, its as simple as that, stop chasing the puck!

It's actually happening? I believed that TL was pursuing though I cautioned on the side of not expecting it to happen.

Not like TL is messing with a good thing here so bring on the change.

I may have missed this, but was there a former President of the Maple Leafs? Or was this spot just...vacant for the taking?

Aaron Ward with some insight on who Brendan Shanahan will try to bring over.

Kris Draper - Special Assistant to GM Holland.
Marty Lapointe - Player Development for Montreal.
Peter DeBoer - Said Shanny is a fan of his coaching.

Burke used to be the President and GM.

I don't know if anyone filled in the President's role after he was fired.

If you can transplant a chunk of Detroit's front office and try to seed a winning organization, I say that's a good idea.
