Realistically, in this role, what is he going to do exactly??
This seems like nothing more than a PR move

Hope Shanny cleans house.

All the management needs to seriously gtfo (GMs, Assistant GMs, scouts, player development execs, etc...)

All the coaches with the leafs, GTFO

Also, I do not want the following players on the leafs next season:

- Clarkson (Retain salary trade his ass)
- Phaneuf (Trade for whatever)
- Lupul (not useful, made of glass, no intensity, only fashion BS)
- Bozak (a lucky year, not strong on the puck, on the board, cannot cycle, cannot drive possession, doesn't take the body, doesn't take a hit to make the play, etc...MOST IMPORTANTLY plugging the 1C position since Kessel has been here )
- Raymond (no hockey IQ, soft player)
- Franson (He absolutely SUCKS)
- Reimer (3 years in NHL, yet no rebound control! Good-Bye)
- Orr (Can't skate, doesn't fight, tries to throw hits but so slow players get away)

Bring in young blood that want to prove something or get smart veterans (only the ones that have won championships or else NO) that can teach the young kids (Kadri, Gardiner, Reilly, Gauthier, Biggs, 1st round pick this year).

Would prefer young blood over veterans.

So you liked the Burke hiring and it turned out bad.

You don't like the Shanny hire so maybe that is boding that it might turn out good.

:)

Could be the weight of "can't be worse than this" that's been our ball and chain for 40 years. I'd give him another chance. maybe make him a sandwich or something

This is how I feel about it. Shanny might turn out to be a great move. Just bothers me that he has zero front office experience.
Even guys like Stevie Y spent time in other organizations learning before moving up to take over the GM job.

He was in the discipline committee. Which means he probably watches a lot of games. Maybe he has good ideas.

I, for one, don't want bone headed hockey ops guy who thinks like Cherry. We had enough of those.

Leiweke said himself he urged Nonis to get Bernier. Said nothing about Bolland or Clarkson.

Right now there is 0 indication that says Leiweke told Nonis to sign Clarkson to that contract.

Shanahan doesn't have, or ever had any relationship to the Leafs and their fans. A guy like Sittler would be a PR move.

Shanahan is now running the Leafs. Takes Leiweke, for the most part out of the Leafs.

Shanahan is the top dog now

This is the quote that doesn't have me excited

Leiweke has publicly defended general manager Dave Nonis many times throughout the season and he is unlikely to lose his job if Shanahan was brought in.

Lol at people that don't like this move. What is the worst that can happen? We suck. Low risk, high reward.

Guys, Shanny is one of the best young execs coming up in the game. I almost don't think it matters what role he would be given, Shanny is the type to excel at it. Much like a Stevie Y.

I have faith in this move. We wanted a fresh voice and fresh angle look at the team, hard to beat Brendan Shannahan imo.

Seems to be some excitement about a former player coming in as President, and has nothing to offer in the way of experience or first hand knowledge at the management level of the NHL. Brendan never played for the Leafs, so the recognition and past glory experiences never included him.

Interested to see what this means, because at the moment, there is no logic whatsoever. If Shanny is Nonis's direct boss; I find humor in a manager dictating the proper way to build a winning team without having a shred of experience. If that were the case, Nonis is best to leave, and let rookies run the most important franchise in the NHL.

Can't really comment... I mean change is good but none of us have any idea what or how he's going to do.

How can he be one of the best young upcoming execs in the NHL with 0 experience?? Are you being serious??

Adding more "Management" was not on the top of my suggestion list for the Leafs.
So this Shanahan thing is a MEH for me.

We need a fresh new coach.

I hear what you're sayin...but Nonis is going to have to have the same vision as Shanny...which I think will be to do some house cleaning...if Nonis is hesitant...then it doesn't matter how much Tim L likes Nonis...he'll probably be gone..

:shakehead:shakehead:shakehead

Jut hoping Leiweke just being professional here by not bad mouthing his GM, the one Leiweke extended, all over the world.

I'm not criticizing Shanny, but wouldn't surprise me if true as it would be typical MLSE

Perhaps. However, from the Raptors and TFC side of things, I have been impressed thus far.

How much weight can we take from that? Probably not much because its still early from the Raptors and TFC side of things and no guarantee that success translates to the Leafs but at least its something

It really cant get any worse right now so I will take change over the constant

Can't really comment... I mean change is good but none of us have any idea what or how he's going to do.

He is coming from an organization that has seen not just success but sustained success.

Old thoughts and ideas have to be let go (read: burkie's toys). A new thought and process has to be embraced.

Change was needed from the Top. Eventually things will work itself down to the GM, scouts, coaches, players, etc...

We have TL and Shanahan on board now, lets see what they can do. I am probably one of the most pessimistic people (with good reason) around here regarding the Leafs but I am always willing to give someone new a chance and not dismiss them immediately

I have been impressed with TL so far (and he is the top dog) so lets see how this works out over a long period of time

Hopefully Nonis is just like Sherman is in Colorado. Sakic and Roy calls the shots but Sherman does the paperwork.

I can picture Shanny sitting on top of Nonis twisting his nipples forcing him to make a trade like a fat kid giving up his lunch money.
