NHL needs to put another team in Toronto.

Think about what happens then. First, there will be a mass exodus from the leaf fan base to the other T.O team just like all the leaf fans that are now Ottawa fans.

MLSE would have to produce a winner.....or finally risk empty seats.

There was talk about something like this happening a few years back. Anyone here anything else about it?

This is a joke, right? What unreal expectations? Making the playoffs? The thing that more than half the teams in the league make? The thing that the Leafs have made ONCE in the last decade? This is ridiculous.

Making the playoffs wasn't an unreal expectation, but expecting the Leafs to just be a shoo-in was. Most realistic folks had us fighting for a wild card spot. And that's exactly where we were until the team couldn't secure a spot.

But now the expectations are even sillier, with everyone clamouring for us to move up. First it was "WHY DIDNT NONIS TRADE AT THE DEADLINE TO MAKE US STRONGER," now the tune's changed to "WHY DIDNT NONIS SELL SELL SELL AT THE DEADLINE," and after the draft it'll be "WHY DIDN'T NONIS TRADE INTO THE TOP 3 PICKS"

I tend to agree with the other poster. This annual burn them to the ground tirade is getting as old as the 47 year long streak itself. Fans say they can accept losing if it means the team is getting better, this last week proves that is utter and total BS. I made the following rant for the "place an ad" thead but it was closed before I posted it but it still applies for the most part...

Anyone who thinks the Leafs aren't trying to ice a Stanley Cup team are crazy. The amount of money they could make from increased revenue and product sales would make the board absolutely giddy. The team doesn't make moves to try and spite the fans they make them because the fans demand a winning team every year. They don't trade youth and bring in veterans because it is cheaper! The fanbase claims they have waited long enough - 47 years dammit. A lot of that time was spent trying to win by bringing in expensive talent but that isn't working in a cap system anymore.

The Leafs, I believe, are trying to grow organically through the farm system finally but now the fans want results ASAP. Bring the kids up, don't let them rot on the farm shout many. Let's have a system like Detroit, shout others. You can't have it both ways.

This team needs leadership, shout more, I can't believe they wasted draft picks on Bolland shout others. Grit is what we need, is the shout, why did we sign Clarkson shouts the other half.

This fan base should put an ad in the paper and tell themselves to finally decide what they want. Results aren't going to happen overnight or even after a couple of seasons and if you panic and change direction every couple years you will get no where.Yes signing some of the contracts is going to hurt but can you imagine the fan base reaction if Kessel and Phaneuf were traded at deadline when the Leafs were in a playoff spot. Or if they were let go at the season end for nothing. Most of the posters on this board would be burning Nonis in effigy. The Leafs still need to ice a competitive team until the farm system develops and these guys made a lot of fans happy at the time(yes I know, except "you" go look at your posts).

Fans can blame management and themselves because by changing course and firing everyone every few years they are simply in a state of

WASH, RINSE, REPEAT.

??????? Hey all you Leaf fans, you are ruining this team with your crazy ass opinions. Get it together or management won't know how to ice a winning team.

What is it he does that makes the Devils so bad at even strength?

Not arguing, just curious. I loved the way the Devils played during their SCF run.

Talent is a big reason why. He's not the sole person responsible for the lack of talent but he hasn't helped the situation. The Devils have always been a "next-man up" sort of team. He got here and was given 2 of the best wingers in the game, Patrik Elias, Adam Henrique, Travis Zajac, and one of the best defenses in the league. He had a team ready to win.

It's hard to replace Parise and Kovy but Jagr did his best Parise impression. Lou had a few prospects, signed Ryder and Brunner, and those guys just never worked out under Pete. A big reason why is that the Devils abandon the slot ES. We're very much a dump and chase, cycle, perimeter team that relies on deflections in front of the net to score. It's not a consistent way to beat good teams ES.

There's no creativity, no room for rushes, no room for anything but a rigid, cycle heavy possession offense that 9 times out of 10 just generates nothing. Look at how bad all of his teams are in shot attempts and goals.

Deboer relies far too much on his grinders. Our fourth line plays in far too many important situations, he moves fourth liners to the top line, he just has "his guys" and "his guys" suck.

As soon as Loktionov broke out of Pete Jail he put up 8 points in 13 games. I expect Brunner, Ryder, Josefson, Larsson etc.. to all take off under a new coach. Pete's system requires Clarkson, Parise, Jagr type players. Work around the net, possession players that cycle and can work without a lot of creativity. You surround him with creative Euros like Loktionov, Josefson, Larsson, Brunner or guys that NEED the slot to score like Ryder - they'll give you nothing,

You feel they are choosing losing over winning?

Those part of the mass exodus aren't fans anyway.

Fan...."Here is some money"
MLSE...."thanks" then kicks the Fan in the head

Fan...."ouch that hurt, here is some more money"
MLSE...."Thanks" then kicks fan in leg.

Fan...."Ouch, that hurt, here is some more money"
MLSE...."thanks, the punches fan in the face.

MLSE....."Now bring us your son"

im interested to see how it goes down. i think carlyle could get fired right after the last game to show the fans that change is coming. i also think that they might wait and see what nonis can do in the summer. hypothetically if nonis was able to make some big roster moves they might give carlyle ~20 games to see.

by big roster moves i mean basically bringing in weber and e staal. i guess carlyle is gone next week sometime lol

I'd be surprised if it was a knee-jerk reaction.

Nonis does seem like someone who has patience and a calm demeanor about him - not someone who jumps the gun on much.

Making a huge decision like that isn't something that he will make lightly.

Of course if it does happen Monday we can probably speculate 17 ways about how it was someone above him (Tim, Shanny) that made the decision for him, at which point this disaster of an arrangement will really be put under the spotlight

The system is getting better, the team will follow. This is what many fans have been asking for but now they are trying it people want to change directions again.

They have no ****ing direction. They have a collection of players.

They are 50% rush players 30% grinders (and not the greatest at that) and 20% meat heads! Trying to play a chip and chase game while the farm team has no absolute design makeup, it is also an assortment of players.

Can they not identify talent? Are they honestly that daft that they can't see when a coach is unable to adapt to the players he has and just create a winning strategy?

Carlyle is a 1 dimensional thinker, he ain't smart enough to make it work and the players or a lot of them that are by far the worst at this are being rewarded for inferior play!?!

How the flying **** does this go on? Any of it, there was a time when if you lost 2 top 6 players for nothing and paid one 15m to go you would be fire while in the process of making it happen or shortly after.

It's a joke. A big fat ****ing prince of **** mother****ing joke.

Two way hockey? You think you would score goals under Deboer???

That's the year they still had Parise, Kovalchuk and Clarkson had 30 goals.

I think we have similar talent (but not as good as Parise and Kovalchuk) that could get the job done. I don't think I'd mind DeBoer coaching the Leafs.

The Devils Forward's are AHL quality for the most part.

When players like Parise and Kovalchuck depart, its not hard to understand that offensive production would drop. Don't think you place blame on the coach for Kovalchuks departure to the KHL and Minnesota's lucrative offer to Parise.

On the other hand, signing Jagr was a shrewd move regardless if that was more attributal to Lou or not.

Should have clarified. When I said the system I meant the Marlies and the players they are drafting.

I would rather revamp the roster than the coaches/management. No coach is gonna fix the mess of a defence we have

I'd be first on the bus bud.

This team has broken my heart for 46 of my 50 years. Its time for a change. I would like to back a winner and this teams fans just keep forking over the money to MLSE and MLSE just keeps laughing all the way to the bank.

You people moan and groan here about a losing team.

Do you not recognize the problem here? Are fans that stupid? MLSE DOES NOT NEED TO PRODUCE A WINNER!!!

They make millions and millions and more millions off the backs of fans and DO NOT need to produce a winner.

You are paying 5 star prices for 1 star dining. Good luck with that. I haven't paid for a hat or shirt in years and when I go to a game, I go to Ottawa when they play teams with actual star players on them like Tampa, Pens, caps etc. I went to a game Jan 31 and watch Tampa and Ottawa for $122 bucks right behind the penalty box. That same seat in T.O is over $600 or more.

It's bad all of it, they new to gut the management and coaching staff. The players can be reworked easily but you have to start trading wisely at the prospect level and move the big contracts with exception of Kessel.

Lupul/Clarkson/Dion and anyone else worth 3million asking for 5m. No more ****ing around.

So then MLSE won't really care if you abandoned the Leafs, since you aren't a customer.

We were a mediocre team even when we were stacked. We were underperforming when we had great personnel and we were over-performing with **** personnel. Deboer = mediocrity.

Here's a quote from Marty:

“The thing is, we used to be a team that didn’t hover over .500,†Brodeur said Wednesday afternoon. “That’s something only the last few years we’ve been content with being that.

“Even the year we made it all the way (2011-12), all year it’s not like we gave ourselves a big cushion. We had to come back late to the middle of the season and we had to push to get to the playoffs.â€

“So that’s something that going forward (Lamoriello) has to make sure we get back to that for the organization to be more of an impact. That means having a solid regular season and a solid start to the regular season, no letdown and be a power house like some of the teams are.â€

New Jersey finished 19-19-10 in the lockout-shorten 2012-2013 season and went 38-39-5 in the 2010-2011 season.

“That’s what when you sit back right now and look at what might happen tonight (the Devils being official eliminated), you think about these things,†Brodeur said. “The last few years it’s almost like .500 is okay. Let’s get a few games and we’ll start rolling then. That’s an attitude we never had before. It’s been creeping up a little bit and it needs to be addressed.â€

probably true now, but I used to have season tickets. Biggest waste of money.

Its a mental issue we as leaf fans have. Go to a big room twice a week and more often than naught, have your heart ripped out of the chest.....yet can't wait to get back to the big room again incase it doesn't happen again...but it does.

You know what would make them even more money, right?

The idea that any professional sports franchise purposely fields a mediocre team is funny.

yet they have done it for the last 10 years. Answer that one....

Below mediocre actually.

If a sport causes this amount of negative energy in you why the hell do you still follow it?

Seems like you could channel your energy to far more productive tasks then spewing rants on a forum.

Shanahan has over 1500 NHL game experience, Burke and Nonis combined for zero NHL games, the same amount as most of the posters on this board.

I like where MLSE is going with hiring Shanny as expecting non hockey people to make good hockey decisions, should be left to know how of those that have the actual experience to understand what it takes to be successful in practice.

Hopefully Shanny turns this organizations focus back to the entry draft where Shanny once was the #2 overall pick himself and became a foundation piece for past organizations. Understanding of building a strong foundation and building from the goalie out.

Man, I am getting old and all of us who but TML logo crap and go to games deserve way better. Honestly a rabbit could have identified that the off season moves were horrible by Nonis. This is why we needed a president one smart enough to look at a deal on paper and say, With all due respect Dave this proposal is stupid and NO you can't do that.

But...this begs the question why is David employed anyways.
