I hope his first order of business it to get rid of the Pilsbury Nonis.

If Hitch's contract is up, you absolutely look into him.

He's always gotten results.

DeBoer is good too, lots of Kitchner grads here.

Really not sure what this signing is going to do other than muddy the waters of management even further...at least for the short term.

The problem with the Leafs is the the unreal expectations of the fans causes management to panic almost annually.

I've heard this tune before and I guess the jury is out as to whether this organization can actually create a plan and have the balls to stick to it. I have my doubts.

Sometimes I think you could put the Canadian Olympic team in Leaf jerseys and they would figure out a way to miss the playoffs.

This is a joke, right? What unreal expectations? Making the playoffs? The thing that more than half the teams in the league make? The thing that the Leafs have made ONCE in the last decade? This is ridiculous.

Nor do the expectations of Leafs fans have anything to do with management of the team.

thank you, saved me some typing

Yeah, those Leaf fans are terrible. They put such huge pressure on management. If the Leafs don't win immediately, they stop buying tickets and following the team.

This is complete BS. The fans have supported a losing team for years now and show little sign of changing. There is practically no pressure from the fans to build a winner properly. Unless they take to heart what a few morons say on call in shows? Give me a break.

The real problem is ownership constantly thinking they can force the team into the playoffs each year and that trickles down to management as it's what they are told to do.

The fans are the absolute last place to place blame for this organization.

The Leafs probably have more delusional fans than most franchises have fans...so I think management does at least recognize those fans no matter how over zealous they may be. Just my opinion anyway and you know every leaf fan has one ,and a platform to address those opinions be it a phone in show, message board, twitter or the multitude of platforms available for just that.

I'm guessing Pete DeBoer will be here in the offseason. He's a perfect coach for this team.

Devils have the best PK in the league. Their shot differential is positive. And their GA/G is 7th best in the league.

Their offensive production may be 26th, but that is a combination of their roster and coaching. Put Toronto's 5th ranked PP in there, and you easily have a playoff team, and a moderate contender.

Yeah... I like this.

So much pressure!

In reality, there is zero pressure in Toronto. If there was pressure, MLSE would be losing some $$ after all these terrible years yet the Leafs are the prized jewel of the league despite being terrible on the ice.

The team sucks.

Are people still thinking this is a good team?

So is it the players or the highly regarded coaches?

The players didn't make up the team, management did.

Management either made mistakes with the coaches or the players.

It isn't the fault of a GM who was fired over 6 years ago!!!!

A team that is in the bottom 5 in goals against should be near the bottom of the NHL standings and not in the NHL playoffs. "Defense wins Championships"

Shanny is a HOFer and played in some strong organizations in the past NJ & Det .. He should be able to provide some sound hockey knowledge and be able to recognize systems and structure pulling from past experiences to identify areas of weakness.

He could always look at Corsi numbers as well. Teams have capologists nowadays and perhaps Shanny should hire a Corsiologist next. ;)

Good on you for taking a hard stance. The team has been neglected, one of the most cherished sports franchises in the history of organized sport ever, neglected for the past close to 50 years.

A franchise that has taken for granted the fact that it has the most loyal fans ever and they have shown this not only in support but by putting there money where their mouth is buying merchandise.

Enough is enough. It's time to get serious an stop this horrible terrible gross mismanagement.

I tend to agree with the other poster. This annual burn them to the ground tirade is getting as old as the 47 year long streak itself. Fans say they can accept losing if it means the team is getting better, this last week proves that is utter and total BS. I made the following rant for the "place an ad" thead but it was closed before I posted it but it still applies for the most part...

Anyone who thinks the Leafs aren't trying to ice a Stanley Cup team are crazy. The amount of money they could make from increased revenue and product sales would make the board absolutely giddy. The team doesn't make moves to try and spite the fans they make them because the fans demand a winning team every year. They don't trade youth and bring in veterans because it is cheaper! The fanbase claims they have waited long enough - 47 years dammit. A lot of that time was spent trying to win by bringing in expensive talent but that isn't working in a cap system anymore.

The Leafs, I believe, are trying to grow organically through the farm system finally but now the fans want results ASAP. Bring the kids up, don't let them rot on the farm shout many. Let's have a system like Detroit, shout others. You can't have it both ways.

This team needs leadership, shout more, I can't believe they wasted draft picks on Bolland shout others. Grit is what we need, is the shout, why did we sign Clarkson shouts the other half.

This fan base should put an ad in the paper and tell themselves to finally decide what they want. Results aren't going to happen overnight or even after a couple of seasons and if you panic and change direction every couple years you will get no where.

Yes signing some of the contracts is going to hurt but can you imagine the fan base reaction if Kessel and Phaneuf were traded at deadline when the Leafs were in a playoff spot. Or if they were let go at the season end for nothing. Most of the posters on this board would be burning Nonis in effigy. The Leafs still need to ice a competitive team until the farm system develops and these guys made a lot of fans happy at the time(yes I know, except "you" go look at your posts).

Fans can blame management and themselves because by changing course and firing everyone every few years they are simply in a state of

WASH, RINSE, REPEAT.

to the bolded

ummmm WHAT?

how are these unreal expectations manifesting?

what is happening to cause them to panic?

empty seats? nope

trouble with season ticket renewals?,nope

bad TV ratings? nope

lmao, they are raising ticket prices by 10% , does that look like a organisation panicking?

This organisation does have a plan, they have their priority tree.

"just getting into the playoffs" is the first and top priority. Always will and has been.

If you can't see that the moves Nonis has made is geared toward the first goal/priority over doing everything possible to build a real cup contender, well what can I say.

Yeah it's pretty unreal how we are somehow blamed for this crap we call a hockey team.

Yeah... I like this.

Deboer delegates PP and PK duty. He has nothing to do with our PP and PK. He has a lot to do with bus being the worst ES team in the league, though.

Are the Devils firing him?

Ive got a strong feeling about Kevin Dineen for some reason.

Agreed, this has nothing to do with the fans.
Seems like compounded incompetence to me, luckily some tweaks can right the ship.
Hopefully they make the right ones.

The only thing the fans have done in all this is enable them to waste money. We keep pouring money into their accounts and they keep adding layers of managers and build a team that they have zero direction in making. They have ZERO VISION OF WHAT AND HOW THIS TEAM WILL PLAY 5 YEARS FROM NOW... And that's a big problem.

Carlyle canned on Monday during locker clean outs?

im interested to see how it goes down. i think carlyle could get fired right after the last game to show the fans that change is coming. i also think that they might wait and see what nonis can do in the summer. hypothetically if nonis was able to make some big roster moves they might give carlyle ~20 games to see.

by big roster moves i mean basically bringing in weber and e staal. i guess carlyle is gone next week sometime lol

What is it he does that makes the Devils so bad at even strength?

Not arguing, just curious. I loved the way the Devils played during their SCF run.
