If a sport causes this amount of negative energy in you why the hell do you still follow it?

Seems like you could channel your energy to far more productive tasks then spewing rants on a forum.

Thats the million dollar question my friend

Why do any of us do it?

I'm a fan through the good and bad, no bandwagons for me.

I really have never questioned my leaf faith until now.

the wife sees the grief every week, then just says "you know there are better ways to spend your time than letting a game get you upset".

She is right. I need to back of the leafs a bit.

I've never been one to talk about tanking or a complete gut before but I think it is time.

Move every player and I mean every player for picks and prospects. Grab McDavid and built the franchise around him.

Shanahan has over 1500 NHL game experience, Burke and Nonis combined for zero NHL games, the same amount as most of the posters on this board.

I like where MLSE is going with hiring Shanny as expecting non hockey people to make good hockey decisions, should be left to know how of those that have the actual experience to understand what it takes to be successful in practice.

Hopefully Shanny turns this organizations focus back to the entry draft where Shanny once was the #2 overall pick himself and became a foundation piece for past organizations. Understanding of building a strong foundation and building from the goalie out.

He also never won a Cup until he was with his fourth NHL team, so maybe he believes the key is acquiring NHL journeymen. ;)

to the bolded

I'm a die hard tanker and I can't even back that.

I guess it's perspective. I'm disappointed, nothing better than attending Playoff games, but it doesn't upset me.

Hockey Central saying they don't think Carlyle should/will be fired. :help:

They are just changing what they say every day because they are the speculative media. They are a group of dopes trying to make something stick.

You can trade away every player and still not finish last, and even if you do, its 1/4 chance to get the #1 pick.

Scotty Bowman played 0 NHL games. Babcock played 0 NHL games. Ken Holland played 4 total, Chiarelli 0.

Claude Loiselle who certainly gives the impression of being borderline incompetent when he speaks publicly played over 600. Dave Poulin played over 700. yeah these guys aren't in charge but they have taken part in the burlesque that has been the Leafs front office over the past 1.5 years.

being a great NHL player is great and i'm not saying Shanahan can't do this job, although it is a huge task to turn this thing around. but give the hockey guy vs. non-hockey guy stuff a rest. plenty of "hockey guys" are bad at their management jobs.

Talent is a big reason why. He's not the sole person responsible for the lack of talent but he hasn't helped the situation. The Devils have always been a "next-man up" sort of team. He got here and was given 2 of the best wingers in the game, Patrik Elias, Adam Henrique, Travis Zajac, and one of the best defenses in the league. He had a team ready to win.

It's hard to replace Parise and Kovy but Jagr did his best Parise impression. Lou had a few prospects, signed Ryder and Brunner, and those guys just never worked out under Pete. A big reason why is that the Devils abandon the slot ES. We're very much a dump and chase, cycle, perimeter team that relies on deflections in front of the net to score. It's not a consistent way to beat good teams ES.

There's no creativity, no room for rushes, no room for anything but a rigid, cycle heavy possession offense that 9 times out of 10 just generates nothing. Look at how bad all of his teams are in shot attempts and goals.

Deboer relies far too much on his grinders. Our fourth line plays in far too many important situations, he moves fourth liners to the top line, he just has "his guys" and "his guys" suck.

As soon as Loktionov broke out of Pete Jail he put up 8 points in 13 games. I expect Brunner, Ryder, Josefson, Larsson etc.. to all take off under a new coach. Pete's system requires Clarkson, Parise, Jagr type players. Work around the net, possession players that cycle and can work without a lot of creativity. You surround him with creative Euros like Loktionov, Josefson, Larsson, Brunner or guys that NEED the slot to score like Ryder - they'll give you nothing,
Thanks for the info. Interesting how Deboer is rumoured to be near the top of Leafs management's list, then, considering our roster could not be less tailored to that style of play.

I guess this would put an end to the Kadri/Larsson proposals?

Honestly, though, I don't know how anything could be much worse than Carlyle's idea of defensive zone coverage, with the wingers collapsing all the way down to the hash marks and leaving the point/half wall WIDE open.

That's the difference between a real deal fan and someone that is in it for something to do. To be honest, our team is about as passionate about the team as you. That's also a big reason why we fail.

We need a team that gets ****ing furious, that gets fired up in the face of defeat and says **** no **** this and does something about it.

Many of you criticiZed Grabos so called unprofessional comments but the reality is it only showed how much he cared about winning here. We needed more Grabos and we got rid of 3 of them.

Grabo CMac and Komarov

Over the next few seasons.

Step 1: Shanahan (Toronto connection)
Step 2: Yzerman (Shanahan connection)
Step 3: Babcock (Detroit connection)
Step 4: Stamkos (Yzerman/Toronto connection)
Step 5: Parade

thats why you make trades and moves with those other guys that have a top 5 pick.

"Hey, here's Kessel, wanna trade your pick?"

Burke did it to get the bobsie twins.

Yea, I own a restaurant. I have waitresses....but they don't know crap about running my business.

Shanny is name only. Probably help Nonuts with talent evaluation for potential trades.

lol that's the most uneducated comment I've heard.

Shanahan is the president of the leafs meaning the highest exclusive. He probably only reports to Tim weke.

Moreover, he's the one that lead the huge shake-up in the department of safety. Like it or not, it's more transparent than what it was before. The league insiders probably know more about the suspension process than the public.

If you heard Tim's interview lately, you would know that he only hires passionate exclusives that he can trust to do the job.

Shanahan is here to shake up the management and over the summer, you can expect a few new faces. The leafs organization is so large that you probably won't hear about the backdoor firings that's going to happen but it will happen.

"Hey, here's Kessel, wanna trade your pick?"

Easy answer for the team who gets the McDavid pick is "No".

And I thought everyone has already been traded away to end up that low in standings.

Hockey Central saying they don't think Carlyle should/will be fired. :help:

I read in the paper this morning that Carlyle will have to have a sit down with Shanahan and they said that his job isn't in jeopardy unless he fails the Shanny test.

Management can't keep the coach and the same core players. At least one side has to change and if it isn't the coach, I'm not sure how they plan to pull off moving some core players and bringing in the kind of players that they need to make Carlyle's system work.

I think Carlyle gets fired if Shanny already has a guy in mind and feels confident that he can get his guy. Otherwise I don't expect to hear 'Carlyle fired' reports on Saturday night after the Leafs lose (hopefully) to the Sens to finish their season.

I'm guessing Pete DeBoer will be here in the offseason. He's a perfect coach for this team.

Devils have the best PK in the league. Their shot differential is positive. And their GA/G is 7th best in the league.

Their offensive production may be 26th, but that is a combination of their roster and coaching. Put Toronto's 5th ranked PP in there, and you easily have a playoff team, and a moderate contender.

Yeah... I like this.

Deboer does not touch our Special Teams

Our special Teams are run by Mike Foligno and Dave Barr

Why didn't Detroit go after Shanny when they lost Yzerman?
