Player Discussion Brendan Gallagher: all heart, no hands

-21, loss of skills, speed. A total NMC which means he can't be waived and buried.
This contract is aging poorly and very quickly.

The only realistic option has to be a buy out at this point.

WTF was Molson and Bergevin thinking?

Well Ylonen for one I think should be given a real chance to play minutes outside of the 4th line. But MSL has no interest in reducing Gallagher's minutes or taking him off the PP.
Yolo looks like a chicken running around with his head cut off out there most nights. Has great speed and seemingly decent hands but he sure has trouble reading the play. Not sure if it's just a young guy trying to do too much or he's just that type of player. He's still young so time will tell.

That's what happens when you manage with emotions...the whole crying I love you my players stupid Bergevin.....that's what gave Gallagher that kind of contract. He loves dogs so he bought himself the Gallagher loyalty. And now we're f***ing paying for it. While the stupid idiot is laughing on the beach...

Send a message. Minimum of 8 games even if 1st offense.

Send a message lol. They don't do it to repeat offenders why would they to a guy with a clean decade under his belt

That hit deserves a lengthy suspension but when a former goon runs player safety you can expect 3 games for something that deserves 8 like you said.

Mol$on gave MB total authority..................and as we now know, MB was not much of a thinker.

The PC where Bergevin was crying, was one of the worst things I have ever seen in pro sports....unbelievable.

To think they structured that contract for Gally to make 8M this year, and 9 M next year, WTF?????

Hate to see Gallagher career end like this. This board was once in love with him. He had the CH tattooed over his heart. It's an odd case.

Habs probably buy him out this summer. No sense in trading him for another bad contract. Just be another mess. Just buy him out and be done with him. Habs have many youth coming, our caproom can handle a buyout.

Let's trade Gallagher for Dubois then.... Maybe Bergevin still loves him that much and Dubois is a problem over there ;p

lol...That's the EXACT message I want them to send. That from now on, enough. No matter the history. We punish the gesture.

You don,t want that contract either.

Disagree - Gallagher has neither had a “loss” of speed or skill, he remains what he always was … the league has become exponentially faster & more skilled vs 2013 when Gallagher was a rookie

MBs biggest strategic failure was his inability to recognize the speed & skill shift in the league couple of years into his tenure as GM (around 2014-2015)

when Gallagher’s team friendly deal was set to expire, having had his 2-best production seasons back-to-back, MB was stuck.

MB Needed to keep players, and I’m pretty sure Danault simply wanted out, I’ve been told by a colleague who knows the family from
Victoriaville, his wife really liked living in the US during their time in Chi and wanted out of Quebec and back to US

He looks like he skates in quicksand most nights.......you could be right, it's a result of everyone else is flying by him, but I don't know man, he looks gassed 20 seconds into his shift. Yes, the game is faster, but he has lost a step and as for skills, never really had any.......the little engine that could, can no longer.....it is what it is.

As for all his lame ass penalties, late in the 3rd period, WTF Gally you are a vet, and should know better.
I think this is the 3-4th time this year, his penalties have cost them goals, and sometimes the game.
Sick of seeing him in the lineup....

For most players, you can see how their career will end/stop playing in the NHL: retire, LTIR, just wont get a new contract and play oversee.

With Gally... I dont see the off ramp for his career. He's sign for too long and too much money, so unlikely he retire. This also mean that a bouth out is not likely. He's just a bit too healthy, so no LTRI for now.....

The main issue with Gally is his heart. He won't just sit on LTIR unless he absolutely has to. The same reason we love him to death is the same reason that will mean he will play out his contract.

I doubt we buy him out and I doubt anyone takes his contract unless we pay up heavily.

The problem was they weren't thinking.

This is what I posted on July 20, 2016:

My only problem with Gallagher is his physiology. In hockey parlance, Gallagher is a 'one and done' player. One foray up the ice and his effectiveness drop offs or declines more than any other player on the team. I know I will endure a significant amount of ridicule for this observation (similar to the invective that I had to endure for my observations over three years ago about Subban's diminished straight-line speed) but Gallagher's inherent lack of stamina will always limit his production. Gallagher also plays hard and fearlessly. As he ages, Gallagher's style of play and lack of size will make him much more likely to suffer injuries of an increasingly serious nature. This is a player with the heart of a lion. Unfortunately he lacks the physiology to make use of this greatest attribute.

On November 6, 2016, I posted:

Hardly. Gallagher has a very low level of stamina. He is your poster boy for the one and done player. Gallagher has great energy the first 20 - 30 seconds of his shift and then the drop off in his effectiveness (particularly on the backcheck) is quite noticeable. There is far too much skating responsibility imposed on a center for a player of his limited stamina.
A wise man once said some can see and comprehend the past, some the present and a few, even the future. By offering Gallagher that grotesque contract, it becomes apparent that the geniuses that managed the team had none of these abilities.

There is an old sport adage that it's better to trade a player one year too early than one year too late. In Gallagher's case, we missed that boat by a mere 8 years.

What sheer and utter incompetence. There's a reason we haven't won a Stanley Cup in over 30 years.

Not an in person hearing just phone, so 5 games or less. I'm not surprised. Gallagher has never been in trouble with NHL for anything. He's annoying, combative and a pain in the ass, but generally doesn't do anything that takes guys out.

My guess is 3 or 4 games.

Gallagher has never been suspended in his career. Unfortunately he will not get more than 1-2 games.
He should get 5. That's one of the most obvious elbow to the head i've sever seen. I think it's hard to argue the intention was not to elbow the other player to the head honestly.
