Player Discussion Brendan Gallagher: all heart, no hands

Look at Armia's career , he's always been like that. He's a 4th liner. He had years in Montreal wih 17min + with pp time and never managed to get above 30 points. Now he plays where he belongs and it shows how bad the contract is.
Will you say it? Or I? Ok, I help you. Armia’s contract is way better than Gally’s.
Overally is much better hockey player also.
I am pretty sure that Armia will be traded soon.

Let's take a moment in this dreadful season to remind ourselves and to rejoice, if only for a brief moment, about the fact that it is this very dreadful season that got Marc Bergevin fired. Seen in that light hard to imagine anything better than this very dreadful season.

With every loss, let us remind yourselves what a good thing they are, and just how blessed we are to have them. Without them, MB would have gotten an extension.

Umm danault is 1 year younger. And his contract is just as trash for 1 million less. At least we have seen gally put up 30 goals, I am still waiting to see if Danault on top line, second line, pp, whatever can hit 15. I also think PDs d prowess is over stated on these boards. He is solid, but it wasn't him alone. Even the best D Centers like carbs or gainey still had quality linemates that helped in making them better.
How does our defence look without those bums Weber and Danault?

About as good as any team missing the majority of its players to injury all season(PRICE???) And many not injured playing putrid from a horrid coach in dum dom. But thanks for asking. In case you forgot weber was cooked last year, but played decent in the playoffs. Its why we thought petry was our new #1 till...whatever this season happened. Any competent manager would have seen this 5 years ago when trading for a winger they moved a solid 2-3 Dman that we already needed.

Zero improvements on the backend for half a decade has a lot more to do with this than Danault and or a laughably old and broken weber. Or do you think Danault with this team, this year, and DD coaching gets 40 points. Even playing 22 minutes a night and PP time. I highly doubt it.

This team is broken because the maestro that so many defended has no idea how to build chemistry, lines, or anything resembling an NHL squad. If you think 1 or 2 players is the difference of this team going to the SCF and having a record setting last place finish the next year, then perhaps you aren't watching the team well enough.

Love Gally, but damn that contract looks brutal. MBs worst moves were this and the Price contract. Woof.
Actually MB's worst moves were always the coaches he hired. If he did better there he might still be our GM. Too long, too expensive contracts for aging players is a close second though.

We gave Danault crap for being a glorified 3rd line C for all these years with Gally putting up pts next to him and now people expect him to put up pts with a career AHL C?

I'm hoping the long summer off (after the short summer they had after the SCF) will give Gally the time to re-set. Maybe he still some lingering injuries or his body is just broken, who knows. There's no point in trading him now as his value is at all all time low. Last season he was on pace for 30+ goals had it not been for injuries. Hopefully next season he rebounds and we find a good spot for him to produce in the line up.

I will say this though, Danault was much more important to Gallagher and Tatar than any of us knew.

Disagree - poor amateur drafting cost him his job, just 3-4 more players drafted over his tenure would’ve made an enormous difference

There is still hope for gallagher imo.

He's the type of player that need to get going before you can see anything valuable from him. Each time he has a long break he's looking for his breath after 15-20 seconds. It eventually goes up to about 30 -35 seconds which is when he get going.

Last 2 playoffs were both after long breaks and this year he never really got going at all.

A good long summer break (and a good conditionning summer please), paired him with a capable 2 way center and he'll get 20-25 again.
Unless the injuries keep coming in, in which case we are in for a long 5 years.

He's a small guy who gave his heart and soul to the Habs but his body is done like dinner .Hopefully he retires or gets bought out because i think he is untradeable .

Hopefully we see Poehling bumped up to that line soon as Gallagher played probably his best game of the season last night. Dauphin actually played pretty well yesterday and works his ass off, but he's basically another Belzile who is more of a career AHLer.

He looked fine out there tonight... Weird timing for this post.

The first 4 games, he was still trying to play as if he had Danault/Tatar around ( like he played all season long so far and the previous ones), but in the last two games he's playing differently. He's adapting.

In about 10 games, we will have a new Gallagher. He might not be as effectives to generate garbage goals and he will be overpaid, but he might not be totally useless.

At 5v5 Gallagher leads the team in s/60 and has the highest xG/60. He has 0 5v5 goals. His IPP is usually in the 67-70% range. Its at 46% this season.

Gallagher has generally not played up to his career norms, but this season is a MASSIVE outlier based on his career norms. Even if he isn't going to be the player he once was, I have a very hard time believing he'll be this ineffective going forward. NHL players, especially ones with Gallagher's history, don't just forget how to shoot and pass.
