My hope is that he signs a ELC, gets 1 to 9 games, and is sent down to the AHL. I don't think the Sens would want to waste a year of his ELC on a right off season, so I don't see the reason to fear rushing Tkachuk. He'll get the same sort of treatment Chabot got, only instead of going to the CHL, he can go to a mens league where I think he's best suited to develop, though I'd be ok with him going to London too.

I'd love to see a line of Tkachuk-Brown-Gagne down there. I think Brown and Tkachuk could find Gagne and let him get off his shot.

AHL might actually be better for him than college considering we'll have quite the team in belleville this year I think.

AHL means more games than college, and likely more time on ice (practice and games combined) given he's not also fitting in a study and courseload schedule (unless he does distance education).

I think he needs to fill out; he's a big kid, but he's yet to fill out that frame, and there have been comments by some that he lacks a bit of core strength (a summer with Gary Roberts may have helped resolve that).

I might be wrong but I think playing in the AHL still burns a contract year.

Nah it doesn't in this case, so long as he plays under 9 games. I believe the rule applies to under-20 players who were not drafted out of the CHL. Lias Andersson is the most recent example I can think of - he played 7 games for NYR, 25 for Hartford (AHL), and his ELC slid a year.

The player gets their signing bonus as scheduled but everything else slides by a year.

He better steal a spot, and not be pencilled into one. That's just asking for his development to stagnate.

If he doesn't outperform expectations handily and look like a key contributor right out the gate like his brother, he should go to London.

Good news! I want to see him tear up London ( many think he’s better than his brother ) or develop chemistry with our other young guys in Belleville. Ottawa should be out of the question IMO.

Doubtful that he's going to play against a bunch of teenager in London after playing against men last year. It really doesn't seem likely, and frankly feels counter intuitive to player development.

He also doesn't have to out perform expectations or steal anything. He needs to meet coaching expectations in order to earn a spot out of camp. He also doesn't have to start his career by immediately being a key contributor, no rookie of any age should be expected to do that, rather it would be a bonus.

I feel like you're setting unrealistic expectations in case he/they make choices that don't align with your opinions.

If he ends up in either London or Belleville, this is a good thing.

Shouldn't be in Ottawa for more than 9 games though.

Should go to London. Belleville 2nd. Shouldn't be near Ottawa if you ask me.

Guys go from NCAA to CHL all the time, it's not a drastic Men to Boys situation. He needs to develop his offense, and playing 60 games + 10+ playoff games in London with guys like Formenton/Boqvist/Foudy/etc. is better than 30 games plus 2-4 playoff games with BU.

Let him make the same jump from BU to London that Coyle (very similar numbers in their 18 year old BU seasons) did from BU to Saint John. Ask him how much his time in the CHL being the offensive guy with Huberdeau helped him.

If he goes to the AHL ut burns a year of his ELC

BU or London are the only places he can go and not burn a year

He doesn't burn one in the AHL. Look at Colin White coming out of BC and having to dress for Ottawa to burn a year, playing in Bingo had no impact on burning a year for him.

See Chytil and Andersson from the past draft with the Rangers.

There is far too much importance placed on "burning a year" or avoiding it. If a kid does in fact "burn a year" it just moves us closer to signing his next deal as a controllable asset, and his numbers won't be as impressive due to that early first year. Therefore, contract #2 gets a bit cheaper...

Doubtful that a single poster on here, or normal person anywhere, would turn down that guaranteed money. It's too risky. If he never plays a game of hockey every it's enough money to set a regular person up for a comfortable life.
