A huge complement of HFers wanted Alfredsson gone back in 2006.

I think the same people who think we needed a Gary Roberts type instead of a small euro.

And would have gladly traded Alfredsson for a Gary Roberts or a Brady Tkachuck.

And no one is turning on Sanderson or Zub or Greig or Giroux or Joseph why?

Because they are giving an honest effort.

A huge complement of HFers wanted Alfredsson gone back in 2006.

And then he had an incredible playoff run, scoring 14 goals in 20 games en route to the finals.

That turned him into the "Alfie" we now know.

Tkachuk wasn't going to get carte blanche forever. A couple of years ago, people in this city cheered him on because he was chugging beers at other team's playoff games. But at some point, you have to get your own team into the playoffs and deliver something for the fanbase...

Tkachuk is the new Alfredsson.

Not quite.

Alfredsson joined the team in 95/96. They finished last place in the league.

But the next year, with Alfredsson as the catalyst, they made the playoffs and didn't miss again for 11 seasons.

This is Tkachuk's 6th season. And the team will almost certainly miss the playoffs yet again.

The Alfredsson-era Senators were known to be detail-oriented, defence-first, focused, calm and collected. Players sacrificed individual points for wins.

The Tkachuk-era Senators, so far, are anything and do anything but.

Language? It's called common sense.

It doesn't take even a minor in BA of Arts to figure out that he came back here to set up where his family is located, post career, within close proximity. As in, retirement

A lot of players do that.

You're full of shit, though. Giroux said wearing a neck guard was a family decision. I don't know why you and your compatriot ever thought I said he was wearing a neck guard for money. He said it was for safety/personal reasons.

You're not the thought police. You can report me if Trump wins the next election.
You don’t seem to like it when people challenge your opinions, disagreeing with a bizzare point makes me the thought police?

I think I’ve been fairly gentle with you on this subject, and yet once again you respond with misplaced anger. I’m not trying to stifle ‘your freedoms’, I’m discussing the content of your post with you.

My interpretation from your original post was that you were using G wearing a neck protector (at the request of his wife and kids), as evidence that he wasn’t in it to win, rather he was here to lay back and play out his career in the comfort of his home town.

I never said anything about money. It’s very obviously about personal safety, and respect for the wishes of his family.

Your defence of this ‘neck guard evidence’ showing his lack of desire to win, is backed by you saying that since we haven’t asked him, we can’t dismiss it, despite G saying the exact opposite several times in the media.

I don’t agree with any of that, but I think this discussion topic has run its course.

Daniel Alfredsson hadn't played a single NHL playoff game when he was Tkachuk's age, let alone be the captain of the team.

It's not a fair comparison. Alfredson was playing on a team with a great coach and great management. Tkachuk came along at the start of a rebuild led by Pierre f***ing Dorion.

I always thought people calling Brady a great captain to be premature. I wouldn't say he is a bad captain but he has a long way to go in development. Good captains are made in the playoffs. We saw it with Alfie and Karlsson.

Brady is learning a lot and was probably given the C too early. We need a new coach to properly evaluate

Daniel Alfredsson made the playoffs for the first time when he was 23. Brady Tkachuk is 24 right now.
Nope. Alfredsson turned 23 during his rookie season where the team finished in last place. He turned 24 in December of the season the Sens first made the playoffs. Brady is currently 24yr+3mo old. Alfredsson had yet to play a single playoff game when he was 24yr+3mo.

Brady is obviously spoiled.

He was given the C and big money contract without having done anything to deserve them.

Not surprising he thought winning and the cups were going to come just as easy too.

Lol alright. Brady Tkachuk will not play a playoff game this season. So he'll be 25+4mo, at the earliest. 7 seasons into his career.

Alfredsson was 24 years, 4 months, 6 days on April 17th, when the Senators played the Sabres in the 1st round of the 1997 playoffs.

And for the record, I really like Tkachuk. I hope he's here for 10 more seasons.

But the criticism is well deserved. He, and this entire team, need to get their heads out of their collective asses. You can only blame Dorion and DJ so much. They weren't and aren't on the ice.

I think DJ should've been fired yesterday, but whoever comes in will have to tell Tkachuk and his teammates some hard truths because they have no idea what it takes to win.

We'll see if this group of players, who've been given nothing but roses despite bad results, can handle it. Are they coachable? Or are they spoiled losers?

Yup it was all fun and games when he was cheering Norris for securing the bag publically. I think with better coaching he can become a great captain.

Detroit is going to have a good laugh when they meet Brady ""who wants it" my team is 20 games out of Playoffs" Tkatchuk next January

Very different teams talent wise though

There are a couple of posters here who don't understand how important it is to have a good coach when you are a young NHLer. Right @swiftwin

I'm not sure why you keep tagging me. I want DJ replaced. Are you confusing me with someone else?

He's still young and there's time for him to grow into the role but there's not a lot of time left anymore.

You think a mid season coaching change is insanity
If a coach hasn't lost the room? Yes, it is.

If the coach has lost the room? Obviously, a coaching change can be beneficial.

I think DJ needs to be replaced.
