scoring is going up/has gone up. More players are putting up 70-80-90-100 point seasons now because it is easier to do so.

In 2017 there was one player who got 100 points, last year there were 8.

I was wrong to say it's just last two years, it's been an incremental up trend for the last 5-6 years.

One big uptrend after 2017 and another big one last two season.
It’s not easier to do now.

I’m a huge fan of Tkachuk but I do think hes a bit of an advanced stats darling because he spends a lot of his career near the net and that registers as a high quality scoring chance even if he’s doing his little spinorama shot at the side of the net that never goes in.

I think he’s overrated in a lot of those expected goal stats while other aspects of his game are underrated, including his playmaking and stickhandling.
I don't do hockey fantasy but all my leafer friends are hyped to see who can pick him first. Apparently he's the new Ovechkin in terms of being one of the best players for fantasy hockey

I always wonder how family dinners in the off season are. Having a Keith Tkachuk as a dad, your brother make the playoffs while scorign 100 pts and being a dick to your team. Loads of friendly ammo to fire everywhere and I imagine it as a funny/awkward situation

Almost every game they throw up some statistic where Tkachuk is doing as well or better than most of the best players in this team's history at the same age, why is that not enough reasoning for you? Almost every broadcast they talk about how good a player he is, how good a leader he is for such a young player & how much better he will be as he matures. Yet, you have declined to accept any of it as reason because you & your buddy Answer hate that kind of player. Clearly Tkachuk is not the kind of player you like, Karlsson is, the soft skilled player who thanked Neil for protecting him while they played together.

It's a message board & you can say what you want but don't expect that you won't get push back from those who realize the importance of players like Tkachuk on this team especially when he defends the players you like. Both Tkachuk & Stutzle are very close in stats, they play a completely different style from each other & both are very effective players in how they approach the game & two of the best rising stars. But I'm quite sure that Stutzle appreciates that Tkachuk is watching his back out there otherwise he wouldn't be able to play the way he does without someone taking his head off. I also think Tkachuk appreciates what Stutzle does & how his play helps him be a better player too. I think there is enough room that we can appreciate both kinds of players.
The confidence his teammates can play with because of the physical element he brings makes them better. It makes room for Stutzle, Giroux, etc. Much like when you have a stud goalie, you can play more confident knowing a mistake can be covered up. Its something that isn't quantifiable but its absolutely a real thing.

Also for all you DJ detractors and Tkachuk leadership deniers. Listen to Dave Smart on his radio spot today with Lee and Creech. He outlines so many aspects of what these two bring to the rink every single day. This is a man that knows more about winning than anyone here could dream of.

Brady pretty much sums up the expectations and the feelings of the season, and the importance of the games and what it means to the team going forward.

Puts all the noise on that front to bed as far as I’m concerned.

Can you post a link @bert ?

I'll admit (to my shame) that Tkachuk was a polarizing pick back in 2018.

Ya I remember taking a lot of flak for wanting Brady (not saying you as I don’t remember).
I recall thinking please pass on him Habs.
Remember being laughed at with the 8 goals take.
Good on ya though for saying so.

I never mind eating crow because it usually means it’s a good thing for the Sens.

I’d rather eat large helpings of crow than be right about some terrible cynical take on something Sens related.

I wanted Brady badly because I loved Keith’s game and it’s how I wanted the Sens to play.

It also why I love the team Dorion has built and the way DJ has had them develop and play.

This is the team I have always wanted.

Brady has turned out to be everything & more this franchise has needed for so long.
Its not just that we picked Brady, its that the Habs didn't. It makes it all the more special. Perfect example of drafting for need instead of BPA.
Tkachuk was & is the BPA from that draft, Dahlen & Svechnikov have both been good, but Tkachuk brings so much more than both.

I was hoping we would be able to get Brady, but i never thought he would be this productive. He has exceeded my expectations for sure.

The type of chances you think overstate Brady’s value from an advanced stats perspective are the type of jam plays that come playoff time result in squeakers and rebound goals.

Can’t wait for him to dominate down low against a rival come playoff time next year.

Tkachuk was the perfect pick, Montreal f***ed up there with their Brian Lee pick in Kotkaniemi.

Quinn Hughes is the biggest steal, Noah Dobson is a sick pick for the Isles.

1. Dahlin
2. Tkachuk
3. Hughes (I just prefer Tkachuk more but he could be #2)
4. Svechnikov
5. Dobson

To each their own, but I think the best player from that draft is Dahlin. Dude's going to be a perennial Norris candidate and I hope he asks for $12+ million from him.

I think Dahlin is the best player from that draft but the leadership and attitude that Brady brought to the Senators was desperately needed and it came at a pivotal time. As a young team it has been a boon for them all to grow up together with Brady as their leader.

It may have happened anyway but it seems he brought a certain swagger this team hasn't had in ages and moving forward, his personality will also bring more recognition and PR.

He is American, a tough SOB and can score - that brings marketing opportunities that can benefit the team.

I think a redraft based on BPA from what we know would look like this:
-Dahlin
-Brady
-QHughes
-Svechnikov
-Dobson
-Miller
-Kotkaniemi
-Farabee
-Bouchard
-Sandin
