Remember when the usual suspects were trashing Brady constantly for his defense? Turns out he was simply doing what that bozo clown DJ Smith was asking him.

Hes been far better defensively since Martin took over and it was a nice defensive play which created his 2nd goal of the night.

the usual suspects were right to trash Brady's defence. And I doubt DJ was telling Brady to put the bare minimum effort in playing d, he was hanging his teammates out to to dry.

Martin did come in and put a stop to that right quick and look how much better the team, Brady's line and Brady are now.

Nothing to criticize anymore thank alfie.

I think you guys are nuts.

The whole team sucked playing defence.

Picking and choosing is silly.

Really? You think the lesson to be learned is that we shouldn’t defend or stand up for people that we care about? I doubt he will stop defending DJ just because he has a different job, I mean is that really how far a person’s loyalty should extend?

Strange stance to take in my opinion.

The funny thing is that wasn’t up to Brady whether DJ coached the team or not, that decision rested in the hands of the POHO/GM no matter what the players had to say. How often do GMs ask the players before the hire and fire coaches?
Some fans think that players are androids without feelings are emotions!

No out of the stars or leaders Bradys attention to detail, willingness to play d, and his penchant to badly leave the zone before possession was gained were standout. And as the guy who wore the C, unacceptable.

DJ has his faults for allowing that to happen but in the beginning and end it was Bradys actions. Putting it all on DJ is weak.

But I'm super glad Brady is coachable enough to change his ways though and thank God we don't have a coach who is more interested in becoming best friends with the top players than actually coaching them to win.

I'm hopeful that Martin and Alfredsson may even be able to mold Brady into a great defensive player. He's got all the tools and those two are all time great defensive minds.

You’re blaming the kid for not knowing how to read when he never had a teacher capable of teaching him.

And you keep saying that the magical “C” was supposed to somehow transcend the lack of coaching in this area.

It really is bizarre.

My beef was always that Brady wasn't willing to play d more than that he had trouble with it. Coasting on the backcheck and all that.

The C means you should set an example for being willing to do the things you don't want to do to get the win.

The players were being rewarded by playing a very one dimensional game. They got offensive opportunity, got paid, and got ice time. That's on DJ. Blowing d coverage in favour of an offensive opportunity was DJs gameplan.

The C stands for captain not for Coach. He did what he was told. In fact, Brady was the best at leaving the zone early, meaning he led by example lol.

4 years of worsening habits for everyone on this team. Now we have someone that knows how to actually coach, enforce a d first game, and holds everyone accountable, and all these bad habits disappear in less than 2 months.

It is not silly. we have criticized every individual that needed to be criticize and also criticize the Team as a unit too

What silly is that you thinking it's silly to criticize a team that is sitting almost at the bottom of their conference, majorly underachieving compared to their own expectations of making the playoff.

I personally have criticized Batherson and Debrincat way more on their defensive play, dating back to last year, so much so, that I blatantly wanted to get rid of them both for peanuts

When did I say not to criticize the team?

What sorcery is this?

I just find it weird to single out individual players when the team as a whole was a tire fire.

Giroux? Is he the lone exception?

Where I apparently dissent is the idea that Tkachuk deserves extra criticism for his defensive play because of the letter on his chest when he’s never learned to play the right way either.

Do individual players get singled out only on this board? every fan base does that. Also, when you have a dedicated thread for an individual player than that player's shortcomings will be discussed on that particular thread.

Well, is a Captain subject to more criticism than an average player? Shouldn't he bear more responsibility than an average player? I let you answer that. The question that you should be asking is was the criticism on his defensive play was fair or not?

and no, Giroux is not exempt from criticism, but he is been one of the better defensive forwards, but sometime his leadership has come into question, especially last year, which I did brought it up, time to time.
