I don't love it, but frankly, I am not sure anything could've been worse than more Dubas.

He inherited a promising young core and managed to do shit all with it. Literally no one he brought in at any point was worth keeping, and he kneecapped us with the worst contracts in the NHL compared to similar young talent.

People gave Dubas way too much credit for the work of his predecessors. Gave him an open easy layup and he somehow ended up not only missing, but falling flat on his face.

Your team just got a whole lot better!

New GM lucky:
- 1 or all 3 big 3 Marner Nylander Matthews will be traded for high end talent/ draft picks
- Cap space is favourable/flexible

IMO / my gut tells me Toronto will finally be tough to play against regular season but more importantly post season. I see big changes in Toronto.

Pizza sucks but it is a nice place to go and enjoy a game with some buddies.

Their take out pasta portions are decent.

Pizza is okay, just okay, and overpriced by about 35% and if you look hard enough you'll find some cheese.

Hopefully they have out of town delivery of one of the Triple Doubles. Be nice to have $11mm to spend on middle 6 improvements.

I couldn't find the post you were replying to to reply to it so hopefully he sees this. McPhee traded his top prospect in Forsberg for Erat who was nothing special. That can't be forgiven.
@LaPlante94 Here is the post that Future was replying to:

Ideally, George McPhee. I would have been happy with Doug Armstrong or Jim Nill as well. Realistically, none of those people are coming here to be report to Shanahan. So when (not if) this team poops the bed again, then perhaps the BoG will find a real experienced hockey person to captain this ship. Because right now we have no one.

Some confusion here, the 3 big cash sucks are Tavarse, Matthews and marner. They all make 50% or more than Nylander.

Anybody else find this stat kinda surprising? I wonder how it stacks off for GM equivalents in other leagues.

Maybe a little, but I think it just shows that there's really no GM good enough to just magically bring the Cup wherever they go and a lot of luck is involved. Like do coaches and GMs really get that much better/worse over time or do they just inherit better/worse teams and get lucky or unlucky with drafting? Probably much more of the latter.

There's no incentive for Matthews to take a sweet heart deal just for some Boston pizza money. If he wants to do bp commercials he can do it for whatever price he wants.

Who do you think Treliving will try to snag out of Calgary with his first trade, I'm thinking thats where his first trade will be made. I'm hoping either Markstrom or Hannafin, possibly Toffoli. I'm leaning towards Hannfin, he has 1year left at 4.950 million, see you Nylander.

In my estimation the best choice was MB. Ler's hope he succeeds, he is going to need to be bold, the fanbase will respect it.

My guess is it doesn't matter anyways really, the owners will meddle and will wear our caps on the weekend with shame (or fear ofbeing beaten up for wearing it lol).

The futility of this franchise is unparalelled. I'd come in with guns blazing,.if he is allowed to...
you went from high hopes to the depths of despair in a matter seconds...lol

Just imagine the pizza party they could throw if they win the Cup though. If you are what you eat then the big 4 will give boneless chickens a whole new meaning

Jim Nill is a marginal upgrade over Treliving, if that. Prefer the team built in Calgary over Dallas based on their defense alone. Dallas just has better coaching, and Nill has benefited from no state tax.

McPhee, until Vegas, had similar accomplishments to Treliving (not making it far in the playoffs) and is the architect of one of the worst hockey trades of all time (Forsberg for Erat).

Maybe just give this guy a chance? I'm not optimistic but hey, I hope I'm wrong. And if I'm I will gladly eat my words with a big smile on my face.

Maybe Treliving will be McPhee 2.0. We can only hope.

One of the problems, especially with AM, is they’ll want max dollar on a short term term deal. He doesn’t get to be a Leaf if he wants to be the highest paid player unless he signs for 8 yrs.
The Leafs have leverage if he starts to play hardball. Give him a deadline and if he doesn’t agree, sit him for the year. It won’t take many nights of him sitting in the press box to come around. If he walks out, even better.
I have seen many, many dumb posts on HF Boards. I have even made quite a few of them myself. But you, Sir, have taken the prize for The Most Inane Post Ever.

Congrats.

(And this is from a guy who wants Matthews traded).

Matthews signing 9x8 and doing ads for Boston Pizza

Genuine question, what are the actual rules on this ? I saw some people throw this idea around, I don't think it'll be the case but what if he takes a super team friendly deal but starts raking in a bit of extra cash from potential TV ads or something with Boston Pizza ?
Auston Pizza! ;)

IIRC, weren't there reports/rumours of Lamoriello and Co. trying this with Stamkos and Canadian Tire? I unfortunately can't imagine this being the factor that would ultimately sway Matthews into staying/re-signing.
