I like Kampf and I think he's done a good job for us. A super responsible defensive player who scores 10 goals is pretty handy.

He couldn't score 10 (7) in 92 games last year and he's not likely to given the front-loaded nature of the team.

Based on the Kampf signing, I’m thinking I’ll be changing my avatar to Brad much sooner than anticipated.

I mean it was silly hire anyway. He basically is there because his family knows Tannenbaum.

Nylander needs to top out at $9M. Matthews getting more than $13M is criminal, but I get why you have to go above that.

The Kampf signing was an overpayment, but I can live with it. Keefe most likely coming back is devastating, but we waited too long to get a better coach. Need to see a string of good decisions in the near future.

No, just reports. But all the reports coming out seem very positive, EF guarantees he's staying and not going anywhere. Now Seravalli claims Matthews wants to win, he just doesn't wanna get paid. Nothing come straight from Matthews but all the insiders have positive news.
Seravalli was also the first guy to say it looked like a given Matthews was looking for a 3 year deal.

The Kampf signing is neither her nor there as an indication.

However, Brendan Shanahan not responding to Dubas' agent email or Dubas' later that day, sleeping on the decision without forethought, waking up and saying..Yeah...That was a gutless move, Kyle...and driving over to deliver the news in person...That was a good decision.

Hiring Treliving was a good decision, not a home run that we know of, but kind of bland. Excited about future drafts though. And by the looks of it, Wes Clark didn't seem overly weepy at the mention of Dubas, to the contrary actually. Seemed almost provoked.

What did he (Clark) kind of snarl and glare out in terms of draft day preparedness without Dubas?

"We're good."

Firing Kyle is a good decision
Continuing to do the exact same stuff Kyle was doing is apparently also a good decision
When we re-sign Kerfoot you will probably also call it a good decision

Make it make sense for me.

Oh...This is one of those insistent generalizations in order to fuel that peculiar Leafs board partisan sub-hobby of baseless caricature and division isn't it?

Caveat emptor: Tell ya what Martin, I'm not the Mark you're looking for.

I'm actually curious to see the reaction if Kerfoot is brought back.

@Community re my response to this post

I'd be extremely suprised if a GM is in control of a team for 5+ years and doesn't make some moves/trades that turn out poorly.

It's more about how the good stacks up against the bad. I think Dubas biggest winning trades and signings outweigh the losing ones.

Biggest losses are Kadri trade and JT signing which had their reasons. I was/am a huge Kadri fan, but he got suspended in back to back years (and again in Colorado)... One great year doesn't just negate that. JTs been discussed to death, but can't blame somebody for signing the top FA too much, especially when he wanted to come to Toronto.

Lots of positive moves, especially the last 2 years. Biggest mistake in the past 2 years was probably Murray who we still got assets to acquire. However, sounds like we'll have to just agree to disagree.

i had been kinda tinkering with this here and there for the past while, and i did want to get back to you on this because i said i would. where my frustrations lie are in the following pieces of information from Dubas' time

players acquired in trades: 36
players from trades that were out of the organization within a year: 27 or 75% of who he acquired
players that remained with organization after being traded for (2,3 yrs plus) - 9 being hyman / kapanen / marincin / muzzin / kerfoot / clifford / campbell / giordano and i forgot to write down the 9th i think, or i double counted clifford and he should make it 28/8
> out of those 8, 2 of them were top notch - hyman and muzzin. everything else was temporary band aids.

draft picks out: 19
draft picks in: 18
high use of draft picks as currency with very little in termed acquisitions, let alone 'kept' acquisitions

it's the death by a thousand cuts, which can be examined even deeper if you look at:
- drafting (trading of picks + missed opportunities at their slots)
- asset trade trees of some of the moves

It should have been extremely easy to identify depth scoring and puck moving defensemen as massive problems, particularly in the playoffs. So far he's off to a questionable start, but luckily it's still early

Are there any quotes from Matthews actually saying this stuff that's attributed to him?
The same amount of quotes of him saying that he is only interested in money and that he wants to be the highest paid player in the NHL.

If Murray isnt deal today is he going to be a 4.75M deadweight in cap?

He can barely give 20 games and has been ~.905 goalie the past 3 years.

Disgusting if we keep him. He needs to be dealt or worse case bought out when window opens
