Brad Treliving is doing a great job.

If you drop the season with "Canadian Division" below are the stats 5 on 5 for scoring:
Context: Matthews-Marner exclusively play together both 11AAV players; other players on the list did not necessarily require another 11 AAV player to prop up 5 on 5 scoring

View attachment 761503

For the same period even strength goal differential (Note marner is ranked 36th league wide for this duration)
View attachment 761506

Once again in terms of context: most of the players even on this list do not have another 11 AAV player on their line propping up this stat.

I expect a GM and a Coach to balance the line up and game plan accorinding to the roster assembled and not force lines or duos that do not help make team deep or challenge opposition teams to think differently.

Matthews-Marner have been a failure in the playoffs especially; yet this coach doesn't change anything. I do not understand the strategy of repeating the same thing over and over and over when that strategy has been nothing but abject failure
Exemple matthews
marner 11+ bunting 1M = 12 M ( or even jarnkrok = 13.1M

Mackinnon
9.25+4.5M = 13.75M

Tkachuk 4,4M+ 4,1 M in florida
4.85M+6.75M 11.6M in calgary

Mcdavid 8.5M + 5.125M 13.625

I can continu but i think youre understand

Marner had been on the ice for pratically half of every goal scored at even strenght by leafs last 2 postseqson...and less than 30% goal against in playoff vs top opposite line game after game... not sure we having the same definition of failure

Massive fail so far.

Kilngberg Domi Bertuzzi Reaves signings have all been garbage.
Resigned Kampf long term, who is utter garbage.

Get rid of this guy who was a failure in his previous job and get the new guy to get rid of all Tre's new acquisitions and the dumb coach while the season can still be salvaged. Even a temporary acting GM would be better until the right guy becomes available. Never would have thought Shanny would replace an incompetent GM with someone even worse.

It's become painfully obvious that none of the major moves Bundy did this offseason worked. Do you have any idea how improbable for Bertuzzi, Domi, Klingberg, Reaves to all be disasters??

PTO Gregor was the only win...simply incredible

I don't get the hate for Domi, I think he's been pretty good considering they decided to stick him with the offensive black hole that is davit Kampf for some reason.

I don't like the job he's done so far but Brad has a lot of space to operate come the end of the season and I think that will define his tenure here long term. I said when he was hired, his tenure in Calgary was worrying but earned him the benefit of the doubt. The benefit of the doubt will be how he handles the 2024 off season. The situation he inherited was a good regular season team that had trouble getting over the hump so I don't blame him getting guys like Bertuzzi who had a great playoff debut and Klingberg played well with the Stars in their run to the finals a few years back. Domi and Reaves I never liked as signings.

The following players are likely gone at season's end:

- Domi - $3 million off the books
- Brodie - If he re-signs, it'll be short term and for a lower number so knock $5 million off the books
- Klingberg - Don't see anyway he comes back so that's $4.1 million off the books
- Giordano - I can't see him playing another season but it frees up a roster spot
- Samsonov - 50/50 depending on his performance this year
- Bertuzzi - Also think this is 50/50 as well

So we could have anywhere from $7 million to $17.6 million in cap space plus the cap jump this off season gives us an additional ~$4 million in space. Call it $20 million.

You figure Nylander gets re-signed at $10.5, we have $10 left to manuever.

I’m still fine with the Bertuzzi and Klingberg signing. But Domi and Reaves have been awful.

Who overpaid Kampf and put him in the situation that he has to pretend to be a 3C to justify the salary?

Tavares is overpaid
Marner got too much
blah blah blah

Treliving spent 20 million on these studs this offseason: Bertuzzi, Klingberg, Samsanov, Domi, Kampf, Reaves.

We can’t afford a good bottom 6 because of the big 4, that’s why we have the most expensive 4C, enforcer, 6D, and backup goalie in the league.

Would've rather kept Bunting to go along with the additions of Bertuzzi and Domi rather than spend that money on Reaves and Kampf, and to an extent Klingberg. Reaves isn't enforcing shit, Kampf has no place here, and Klingberg looks awful 80% of the time. Should've leaned more into the rat angle.

Kampf extension, bad.
All UFA signings, bad.
Not trading any of the core to continue the softness from the top, bad.
Keeping Gregor and Reaves over Lafferty, bad.
No proper penalty killers, bad.

With the absolute disaster situation left in Calgary, i'm not too optimistic its going to get better.

The only reason I'm still giving him the benefit of the doubt is that Treliving will only have 1 truly awful contract after this year - Reaves.

TBH Trev is a puppet GM for Shanny, who needs a lot more heat now.

It's clear that Shanny has never allowed the idea of moving one of the core 4 in a trade.

He is still basically running Dubas' team plus a few signings he'll need a couple seasons to really put his stamp on the team.
