He’s not a great skater and he’s hopelessly undersized. That’s the kiss of death for anyone hoping to make it in the NHL.

As a Leafs fan I really, REALLY, hope I’m wrong, but this guy sure looks like a career minor leaguer.

Wait, who’s not a great skater? Cowan is the small one and he’s an amazing skater

This might be an odd hot take but the Bert domi Klin deals has a real Shanny micromanage vibe to them. That's why they happened on July 2, the second day of UFA...... Treliving didn't really want them but Shanny stepped in after nothing happened on July 1 and said get these guys. Tre said fine 1 year only though. Tre's only real moves were the Benoit, Jones, Gregor. They got the rubber stamp from Shanny instead. And are by far the best moves

To me Shanahan is the real GM of this team, and has been since he got the okay from Larry T. for the scorched earth in 2015. Got his old coach from Detroit, and his old GM from New Jersey.

Lou left early because he wanted more autonomy. Went to Islanders where he became President of Hockey Ops and GM. Shanny brought in Dubas who would be a poppet. When Dubas wanted more autonomy he was let go. Went to Pittsburgh were he became Pres of Hockey Ops and GM.

Coincidence?

Now we got Tre who is going to be Shanny's puppet for 3 years. There will be a new GM again, probably a rookie.

Real change won't come until Shanahan is gone. This is his 3rd GM and the Team Philosophy hasn't changed in the slightest, load up a big 4 and stop gaps everywhere else...... Larry T. wasn't going to make that move. Thankfully MLSE is finally realizing this. So Keith Pelley is here now. I really think Shanahan's days are finally numbered. Another early playoff exit and I hope Pelley will pull the trigger.

Same vibes with the draft this year. No more Dubas, Tre barely on the staff a few weeks so the Leafs can go way off the board to pick a guy from London in the first round so he gets the Stage Photo Opp and all the other stuff that comes with being a 1st rounder......., Shanny's OHL team and the Hunter family Operation.

Having watched him with London and then in the WJC, he’s never going to be anything more than a 4th line player - - if that - - at the NHL level.
Lol. He's 18 and is on pace for 122 points. Usually only top 10 picks do that. Like Marner did. Not saying he will become a Marner level player but saying he won't be anything more than a 4th liner at 18 is laughable.

Also for the WJC, he was 18 playing in a tournament that is predominantly full of 19 yr olds. He was a solid role player and penalty killer for Canada. He was the only forward that was not on for a goal against. Also, outside of Celebrini, who on Canada actually had an excellent tournament?

Why would Leafs goes all in? They are a borderline playoffs teams with holes every where.
If anything, we might actually see Tre selling like Gregor, TJ, Bert, Jones and even Gio.
With a good coach and a strong team anything is possible. Washington and St Louis both proved this and I am sure Shanny tells himself this every night. They aren't sell as long as he is GM of this team.

Brutal offseason, there is no denying that.

However, Shanny is to blame for this by making the change before the draft and FA. Left no time for anything.

Hated the Treliving hiring at the time and still do. Was okay with moving off of Dubas, but did not like the timing of it, and would have liked us to do a comprehensive search for a GM.

Problem is that Caps and Blues got players with characters and hate losing and getting embarrassed while our top guys don’t feel that way at all beside Mo.

His take is crazy. I have knights seasons tickets and have seen every game he has played at home. He is generally the best skater on the ice for either team
I saw him live in windsor.the kid can skate

I totally concur .shanny fired dubas he should have owned it .
If I'm not mistaken didn't tre interview for other jobs?

When I look at this season I see write off and Shanahan fired. I dont think there is anything Tre can do to change the outcome. Sending the same show out again was just another dumb mistake.
Time to shit or get off the pot for the 3 amigos. Get it done or GTFO.

Might take a Matthew Tkachuk slapshot into an empty net, to complete a 4 game sweep, to wake up Larry and the senior execs and realize Shanny is not part of the solution.

Last nights game clearly gave treliving a roadmap for success for this team:

In an ideal world we trade Marner for a couple good players. Tavares resigns for under $3 million and the saved money can add additional depth including a goalie.

That's an ideal scenario.

In reality Marner will be resigned to $11 million, Tavares will be resigned to $6 million or so and we keep doing the same thing we've been doing for the last 5 years.

As an aside, it fukking sucks that we still have a year of that albatross Tavares contract next season. This team is SO flawed the way it currently is.

There you go Treliving. unload marner. Break up the big 4, and we'll probably be a BETTER team.
Funny enough i think not signing Nylander to that terrible contract - and replacing him next season with $11 million over a couple different players - would have had the same effect, but we know how that worked out. Goddam it Treliving don't make the same mistake twice.

Marner is getting more than $11 million. Given what Matthews and Nylander signed for, Marner's number will start with a 12.

Marner is getting more than $11 mil. This team would be much better off trading him for a couple of good pieces (Dman and top 6 forward). Tavares can beat it, he’s too slow.

We all know this is a pipe dream though, Marner will resign for $12.5, Tavares will be back at like $5mil, and we will all wonder why, or at least some of us will

Yeah probably, but god help us if he gets that here.

I know ,right?

The right move is so obvious, yet everything points to the Leafs f***ing it up. It's just the leafs being the leafs i guess.

Please prove me wrong treliving, PLEASE.

I don't think either the Matthews or Nylander contracts are terrible, particularly in the context of the Tavares contract which started the whole overpayment cycle.

We now have our two best players (three if you include Rielly) signed reasonably long term. Letting both JT and Mitch walk (or somehow trading them) would be best for the team.
