Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. Next year it will be impossible with CAP issues all year long .. this is da year with big LTIR abilities .. if it doesn't occur this year it is 2 years down da road before we have our next chance after JT retires, wins a Cup or signs back at minimum
Dubas had 7 yrs to fix the D and never did..
You want treliving to find 2 D with the limited assets we have.
It will take 2 yrs to get this defense right.
Our core needs to be fixed

3rd rd pk + Robertson for a dman that can pk
In the summer sign a UFA dman

This years pain will be nothing compared to next year.
I think I read somewhere that after the new deals kick in the core 4 plus Mo will take up 63% of the cap.
Think about that 4 individeally good but collectively useless forwards and 1 good Dman Taking 63%

Dubie is not a hockey guy .. never was .. da new world of analytics is still in its infancy .. maybe in 20+ years a guy like Dubie can succeed when analytics formulas really start to understand da game ..right now as Dubie even said himself analytics may explain up to 70% of current game .. I LOLed when i heard him say puck bounces and luck had too much impact on da game .. Cups are won with D and G .. always have for 100+years .. this team is build wrong for Cups in a CAP world .. but as Dubie says luck is part of game .. and our only chance is Woll wins us a Cup right now .. it is possible as I have seen him win games against NHL/AHL talent when he was playing on a college talent team .. but he needs more D support
Absolutely and I think that's the case. We need to wait for Tavares to go regardless. But I also think we need move Marner's money elsewhere.
We should spend this year and next trying to stockpile some tradeable assets ready for the 25/26 push. Although I acknowledge it's easier said than done.

BADLY need a RH pk D
we can’t roll out Brodie and Gio and expect to have a successful pk.
especially with in my opinion only 2 quality pk forwards in Mitch and Calle.

You don't count adding Brodie and Muzzin as fixing the D? They were both top pair guys coming here and both served as such til Muzzin's back broke down and Brodie hit a wall this year

Treliving inherited a 111-point team that lost in the second round to a team that made it to the Stanley Cup Finals. Now they're scraping to hold onto a playoff spot and win against Detroit.

I have come to the conclusion that Treliving is an idiot, and Keefe is a moron.
There is no possible way this team wins a cup anytime soon. There are at least 8 teams built much better than the Leafs. The defence is very religious....holy.
Matthews and Marner disappear in the big games. As a 2 time combat vet, I'd be very afraid if these 2 cowards were in a foxhole with me. They both got owned last night. And as a game gets tougher, the faster they disappear. Can't be a hockey player and be afraid. They both have a bad case of p***yitis.
And Keefe thinks there is another league above the NHL. If you love the avs so much Keefe, why don't you go marry them as my 4 year old would say. Keefe may in fact be the worst coach Leafs ever had.

At least Sheldon Keefe has the highest winning percentage of any Leafs coach outside of King Clancy's 25 games behind the bench. That's no small feat, as I'm pretty sure that Ron Wilson and a host of others could have easily screwed that up if they were behind the bench instead of Keefe.
Despite that, it does look like time for a change.
Perfectly said time for the boys to grow up and start by splitting them for the remainder of the season and playoffs
Brodie was not a top pair guy his strengths were perfect for a rielly partner his defense and Sticc he was on the third pair for Calgary but comes here and is a top pair d I think tre trades him if he can

There is no way the Leafs could head into the playoffs with the current D they have and expect to win anything...they need to fix the D...all will fall into place if they have solid D. Leafs have the assets and cap space this year to solidify their D position before or at the trade deadline this year.

I think whatever money they can scrape up should be used for that FA Defense.
Hopefully, one that doesn't end up on LTIR within weeks of the season start.

Sure, be great if they could land two(2) 2nd. pairing defenders, but I doubt they'll have the Cap.
It would be a huge win if Treliving could land a first pairing defender, even a lower case one.
Who would you trust to protect the lead late in a game out of the current core of defenders?

With Brodie regressing and Klingberg...well, you know.... The Leafs are essentially down two top 4 D. Add to that their starting G falling off the face of the earth and their top LW being extremely underwhelming at best (though Bert is known for playoff play I guess), those are some massive holes to fill.
We don't have the draft capital or cap room to fill those holes in season.
Again full credit to Tre and the team for the excellent depth acquisitions in Jones/Benoit/Lagesson/Gregor but this past offseason was a disaster.
I'm not saying it's a wash of a season and I hope beyond hope the Leafs can overcome these challenges but... This might be a wash of a season.

Brodie averaged 22.5 minutes a game over his entire 10 year career in Calgary and played all situations. That's not a 3rd pair D man

The risk isn’t LTIR, the risk is he blows out his knees for the 4th time and is healthy enough to play but skates like Reaves now.
Did you ever think he has a high winning percentage due to the amount of star power on the team? You put Keefe behind the teams Brophy and Maloney coached and he'd be just as bad.

When Ballard found out somehow that I was seriously thinking of jumping to the WHA, he phoned my agent [Alan] Eagleson to have a meeting. Our negotiation was so slow.
We went to the Hot Stove Lounge at Maple Leaf Gardens. He told us, "you sure don’t deserve that money but I’m not losing any more players to this WHA. So here’s a five-year contract. You don’t deserve it but here it is. Sign the contract." I looked at him, and he had no class whatsoever. I leaned forward and I told Harold, "take this contract and shove it up your arse."
