I haven't watched a single Pitts game, just because you keep calling me a Dubas fan doesn't make me one.

around 30 those D break down?

Did Muzzin do anything particularly bad so I can filter D to see the long list of D that break down at 30 because they hit people?

It should have been crystal clear at age 28 that Muzzin was going to have a freak accident pinching a nerve in his neck and giving him debilitating chronic nerve problems going forward, if you couldn’t see that this was the only possible outcome then I don’t know what to tell you. The entire league knew Muzzin was 100% going to get into a freak accident except you and glasses boy.

While not that specific, there was certainly concern expressed that due to the type of player he is and the amount of playoff hockey he logged that his next contract might not age well.

The type of injury that’s relevant for that is chronic knee, hip, groin, lower back issues from guys that take a lot of abuse like Tanev. Having a weird fall into the boards that gives you career ending neck/spinal damage can happen to anyone at any time. If Muzzin had normal wear and tear injuries that made him miss 10-15 games a year there would be no issue.

Against the Isles for instance, Benoit started in the 0 zone 14 percent of the time, Timmins 79. Then factor in quality of competition and the “stats” are mostly voodoo. When we get healthy and Timmins is sitting, perhaps reality will set in.

All this said I hope he improves, I’m just noting how horrible he is in our end. Thats kind of why the coach doesn’t trust him there.

Zone starts and deployment are extremely important context and sometimes can really exploit a comparison based on certain advanced stats.

The comparison in question here is one defencemen (Timmins) who recieves 68.7% Ozone starts vs the other defensemen (Benoit) who recieves 18.9%.

The one player is being sheltered and is being put in a glorious position to put up good advanced stats while the other not so much.

Timmins has close to the best advanced stats in many categories on the team but it's not suprising when you see how favourable his deployment is.

OFD vs DFD, maximizing strengths vs minimizing weaknesses. Keefe utilizes them together on a pairing because each brings to the table an attribute in which his complement lacks.

I know this but what I'm saying is using stats that are mostly focused at deriving most of your value from how many shots or chances you're on for 5v5 isn't really a great tool when one player is consistently starting in a more advantageous position to generate chances.

No doubt. What I was attempting to convey with my post is that any comparison here will seem to be fruitless because the two defencemen in question are about as opposite as it gets on the team's current blueline.

Social media kicking tires on Trelivings interest in Mario Ferraro.

I'm in. Another hits and blocks machine. Just pin guys on the boards and block shots, and the core and their buddies bert domi and knies will take care of the rest.

I really enjoy the fact that these are the types of D Treliving is linked to.

Really feel like that’s a pointless add who does he push down or out?

Forgot to mention the selling point for me: He's only 25 years old

It's not pointless at all if you look at areas of struggle.

Secure the assets and figure out how to work everyone out after.

Like I mentioned, he's 25. It's a good addition.

Then how do we get the top pair addition then?

It's better to build a cohesive unit than wait for a big fish that isn't coming. Young fresh legs in the playoffs that will play hard, pin bodies and block shots and hopefully tie up sticks in front of the net.

Mario Ferraro is trending upwards around the league.

They’re too old, too slow, and too both.

Brodie was great in the regular season and was one of the worst players in the playoffs last season. If he wasn’t injured they’re in big trouble.

Gio…he had a nice career.

McCabe….3 rd pairing at best.

That McCabe take of yours is looking bad.

I honestly thought the Cowan pick would make us all friends.

All the dinosaur talk heading into the off-season and we draft speed skill and IQ @ 28. Nope. Bunch of nonsense chatter still followed that we hired another Burke.

I remember Dubas early years, it was a 100% like rate, then people let time and evidence pile up before deciding if they're going to like him or not.

Nah you see, you need to judge every move a gm made on a game to game basis. If its not looking good in the first few weeks, it'll never look good later on!

Lets hope they can make some noise come playoff time.
It's taken people a little while to come over to my position, but it seems everyone is now getting there. Soon enough they will also come around to realizing that this team is going to win the division.

nobody could predict muzzim got hit from behind and his head hit a knee and missed the series vs cbs
or
and get an accidental hit vs habs and get injured low body injury...

its the 2 injury who really hurt leafs with Muzzin

Muzzin is the best move Dubas did in Toronto and its not even close but some unfortunate even really impacting that move

When I watch Timmins I see Justin Holl....not a great skater...big..but doesn't use his size well in defending. The only difference is Timmins is a great passer compared to Holl.

Trading for Muzzin was indeed a fantastic move!

Anyhow, Dubas is gone now and I have to say, as the team is starting to play better I'm liking Tre more and more. What I maybe like most of all is that he hasn't traded away a 1st for a rental Dman, at least not yet. Domi's looking better and better as well, we'll see what he does going forward.
