Ya...but what about Dubas signing Aston-Reese?....betcha you forgot about how well our old GM found great players to fill out the bottom 6....Or Wayne Simmonds...

All I know is if Dubas had a 6 good deals to 2 bad deals signed in an offseason the fanboys would be asking for Executive of the year for Dubas. He basically ruined any future by signing Karlsson when he didn't even need him. Dubas seems to be much more about the sizzle than the steak when he does stuff like that and I am happy he is gone.
Does pointing out the good, bad and TBD of Treliving's work somehow mean I am express an opinion on Dubas' work?

I thought we were discussing BT. I think he is doing pretty well. He got some luck with two mulligan's but I like what he has done depth-wise with Benoit, Lagesson, Jones, Bertuzzi, Domi and Gregor (whom I should have had in my tist list).

I guess I also like to hat he has the core four + Rielly + decent cap space and some youth in Knies, Woll, Robertson, Niemela, Cowan, Minten, Hiddleby and others to keep the window open longer. I guess that's where Dubas gets credit too.

Woll was drafted by Lou so credit to Lou and the scouting team

Sure, good point. I would say whoever signed Woll that this deal he is on this year and next gets some credit too. So does BT for the way he handled Woll, Samsonov and Jones this offseason.

It’s a fair point that more people don’t consider enough, regardless of who they are trying to prop up. Who drafted a player is only half the battle. How he’s developed after he gets into the system is just as important.

DROP THE DUBAS TALK

We're going to take a break on this off-day, and when we come back, we're going to talk about Treliving.
If Dubas comes up naturally in the context of Treliving's role as GM of this team, fine, but dear lord, this is not the thread for:
  • defending a full grown man who lost his results-based job and who he himself has accepted the consequences and moved on
  • NOR is it for bashing this human who led us to record-setting seasons and (drop the act) was not acting in some conspiratorial, malicious way
  • and holy hell, cut it with the tribalism. There is ZERO reason for this to get personal or acting like one side is better than the other. It's honestly getting childish at this point.

Stay on topic.
This thread is about Tre, our current and only GM.

If you can't handle that, you can ignore the thread. If you cannot handle other posters having different opinions than you, you can ignore the posts or Ignore the poster.
If those options don't sound good to you, we can also remove you from the thread.

There's a move coming soon. I know, we all know that Treliving HAS TO make at least one big or semi big shake up move. Trade, fire coach, change goalie.... something. It's inevitable. It has to happen. I want it to happen now. i hate waiting.

Not happening until the new year. Odds are he acquires Tanev but IMO they best way to fix this team is to acquire a true #1G who can carry the mail. As it stands, our best goalie is an injury prone guy with 30 something NHL games under his belt.

Like I said in the summer this was going to be a trial year to see if Woll can be a number 1. He’s played well, but he needs to play well for 45 + games and Injuries are a concern.

I still think the number 1 priority is finding that top tier D that can help Rielly anchor the D and then worry about the rest.

There’s a lot of holes in this lineup.

3rd line heavy winger to replace Robertson.
Top four defenceman to play with Rielly.
Goaltender to share the net with Woll.

The price to acquire a 3rd line center will be too high, especially with all the other holes that need to be filled.

Domi also hasn’t looked bad there. He’s been a lot better playing center than wing and provides that much needed secondary scoring from the bottom six. I’d start by looking for a heavier wing and then go from there.

I’m thinking more next year when they have a little more cap space and flexibility.

The first two are actually pretty easy to fix. There are always third line guys available at the deadline. Tanev will fill the missing D spot. I don't think anything will change, however, in net. There are a lot of teams looking for goalies, and I doubt Toronto would pay the cost to acquire a guy who will probably not be much different than Samsonov or Jones in terms of a back-up.

I would have said Sammy for Driedger as the guy was just rotting in the AHL and the money is similar. But the Kraken have recalled him and if he shows anything at all that door slams shut.

What motivation would Seattle have to make that kind of trade?

They never gave him a game last year so he sat in the AHL with his $3.5M cap hit. If he is just a doorstop there and not in their plans (again, why no games last year?) then they save $950k right off the hop. Seattle comes out ahead even without getting an asset, and they they will get an asset. Both are on expiring deals so its a nice fit, even with no retention.

However Grubauer has been a sieve this year and is untradeable but is on IR now so I think the Kraken try to Robidas him and run with Driedger. All he needs to do is be a .900 guy and they are winning.

GIving up futures for a rental seems like a really bad idea. 30 games in, the team is 9th overall, 12th overall in regulation and an inch away from 15th. Thinking we have a realistic chance at going on a cup run is pure insanity. I know you keep predicting we'll take over 1st place, first you said January, then you said we'll do it by end of the year, maybe one of these days you'll face the reality that this team isn't as good as you think it is. Even if we do take over 1st place, it means nothing in teams of being a contender if we can't even crack the top 10 teams in regulation hockey.
