Kerfoot and Bunting cost us 4.45m. Bertuzzi and Domi cost us 8.5m. It's actually a difference of 4.05m, with no real upgrade in quality.
We're not talking about helping more than acquiring a #2D. We're talking about helping more than what Treliving did.
There were many available options and pathways that would have been better than what Treliving did.
I'm not sure why you think there were zero options last offseason, but there will be an abundance of options next offseason.
We had more options for short-term deals than just Klingberg last offseason, and we would have had further cap space opening up next year anyway.
You can't sabotage the competitive present hoping for future options that may never come.
We did not struggle with transition through the whole playoffs, and you don't need a Klingberg for effective transitions.
We didn't even spend that much time in our own zone against Florida, and they scored a lot of goals off the rush, not sustained pressure.
In fact, a lot of the Florida series was us spending large amounts of time in the offensive zone getting stonewalled by Bobrovsky.
1- the fact bunting was underpaid last season doesn't change the fact treliving would need to give hin 4,5M to keep him for this season. sure comparing player who was on cheap contract vs a full price, thats change everything and im 100% if he would be agree to sign at same salary, leafs would give him 8 year contract pretty easily.
2- tell me what because seriously i watched every player who moved last summer conaidersting salary/ term and sorry i dont see anything that would help leafs.
3- last season best D available
orlov, klinberg, holl, schenn, soucy, graves, mayfield, gudas, mikkola, oel, dumba
next season
hanifin, forsling, pesce, skjei, montour, martinez, brodie, tNev, dillon,
2nd best D off last off-season would not even be in top 5 next season and orlov had been clearly overpaid because for me hes closer of a #3 than a #2
4- when rielly was on the ice, no leafs didn't struggle in transition but every time he was out... it was awful... and most of goal off the rush from florida, when did they come? a lot of time after a bad transition who was resulting by a giveaway. defend get the puck back, missed your transition with give away come back in defensive zone and defending well, get the puck back but missing your transition again and oops thst time florida used it against you and scored off the rush. vs get a quick transition succeful and playing like 15-20 second in offensive zone and next 15-25 sec in the offwnsive end unstead of playing 40 sec to defend and 10 second to miss your transition... transition missed, most of them happened in neutral zone, not leafs zone. if you can pass the neutral zone with the puck because your transition is too weak, yes thats will hurt you
