I'm still struggling to comprehend why Brad Richards is still a Ranger, such a gamble economically...

I'm pretty disappointing he's back but to look at it from a different point of view;

Remember in 92-93 when Messier was considered washed up? He came back like a bat out of hell the next season.

If Richards commits to working out the right way, changing his diet, etc. he MIGHT be ok. Many players like Gary Roberts, Chris Chelios, Ron Francis, Igor Larionov, and even now Daniel Alfredson have been fine into their mid to late 30s by changing their training and diet.

Richards is already league known for taking care of his body, diet, etc. The issue me thinks is upstairs

Extremely risky decision, because if he is injured during the buyout period next summer, we are stuck with him, and this severely limits our options to improve the roster this summer.

Nothing we can do about it, hope for the best.

Hopefully Sather, Gorton, and Clark get creative on Sunday.

I don't get the optimism for a complete turnaround from richards. The guy was being paid 12m or whatever this yr yet this "high character" player couldn't show up ready to play? Additionally, can we plz stop with the stats. Anyone with a clue knows he was terrible last yr and to imply differently is factually incorrect, the man couldn't skate.

That money could have brought in help for our bottom six at the very least. So what happens when brass and step continue to outplay him yet he gets top six mins/off zone starts at the expense of one of them? He sure as he'll won't fit on an checking line.

Not against the rules to have 3 lines that focus on scoring.

I'll say this...Brad Richards better score early and often next season or the garden faithful will be merciless.

"In 2013, the buyout period begins 48 hours after the Stanley Cup Final ends and concludes on July 4 at 5 p.m."

It seems to me that with this new FA talking/not signing period for 48 hours - the 3rd/4th this year the optimal play here would be:
1. Not announce what they are doing with Richards
2. Talk to Ribeiro/Lecavalier during these two days and see if they can agree on a deal with them (obviously much shorter term than Richards and likely less money or at least comparable for Ribeiro)
3A. If they can agree - buy out Richards.
3B. If they can't agree - explore the other good FA options (this can be with step 2)
3C. If they don't like anything out there then just announce their intention to keep Richards.

No point making the decision early when you can wait and get more information.

My own view is that I have little to zero patience waiting for a player to round into form. I truly will jhave no patience for Richards if he does not perform right out of the gate.

I do not want to hear more crap about how a player habitually does not get going until X amount of time into the season. If a player cannot perform right away, he should go, sooner rather than later.

Considering that the team is looking to win this year, keeping him as a depth forward makes sense. Plus, he can recover.

MZA - Step - Nash
Hags - Brass - Cally
Kreider - Brad - Miller
Asham - Boyle - Door
---------------------------
Pyatt - Powe

PACKERS:

Hrivik - Noob - Thomas
Haley - Lindberg - Fast
Yogan - St. Croix - Palm/Segal (?)
Bourque - Jean - Nicholls

We have a nice, deep lineup both in New York and Hartford.

Not against the rules to have 3 lines that focus on scoring.

I'm all for it except we don't have the players.

Step, brass,Nash = legit top six talent
Hags,zucc=promising/borlerline
Kreider=work in progress
Cally=ideally third liner with hags and hopefully lindberg

We have a mediocre top 6 and even poorer top 9. We could have really used a top 6 lw but we get beaver...........

Best case:Scoring. Checking:

Kreider-step-Nash. Hags-lindberg-cally
Beaver?-brass-zucc. Pyatt-boyle-dorsett

This is going to be a very costly mistake if he gets injured

If he doesn't, it will still be a costly mistake in terms of cap hit and the fact that he will again run out of gas by the playoffs.

I'm always amazed by how stupid and unwilling to admit a mistake Sather can be

Actually don't mind this set up. Nice work.

Not really any top 6 wingers available.
Plus Callahan really isn't a third liner. He's more of a 2nd/3rd line type guy I mean he's scored 20+ 3 years in a row by having him on a third line doesn't just make it a non scoring line.

This is NOT what I wanted to come home to. What. the. fack. Probably gonna break his ankle falling out of a cab or something.
