I don't think people believe that Cassidy was the x factor for the Vegas cup run. What I think is most should realize by now he wasn't the reason this team didn't win a cup, despite the front office making him the scapegoat last year. I think most people are starting to realize that this core since 11 has felt entitled to either play hard or not play hard depending on the day. The reason they went to a few cup finals and lost is because they didn't care enough to do the little things needed in order to win. They were blase about it and acted like it didn't matter. Well, it mattered to the fans and the fact that they pissed away so many golden opportunities is on them.

To bring it back to the thread subject finally, I put those cup failures squarely on Marchand, Bergeron, and Krejci. This is the supposed core of the team and the leaders of said squad, and they've continually come up short when it mattered most. I guess we should all be thankful we got one cup, but I feel cheated as a fan because they were clearly good enough to have won multiple cups but didn't.
It's definitely all perspective on being cheated out of some cups. I only really follow Hockey and Football as my major sports. In my lifetime (30 years) as a Vikings fan they have not even sniffed relevance. And in my lifetime as a Bruins fan they have made the cup 3 times and won once. Easy to see why I feel less cheated than someone who has cheered them on for 40 or 50 or 60 years, or New England sports fans who watch all the other major teams have success.

All that said, if I were Debrusk, Bergeron, Marchy, Krejci, or anyone else who complained about Bruce in the exit interviews and then laid an egg while watching him hoist the cup....I would be very embarrassed of my words and actions and would have a fire lit under me next season. The sad part is their captain and Bruins legend's impending retirement should have been more than enough to rally the troops so maybe, as you implied, this core does not have it in them.

here is your new captain.

The nhl fan up roar going from most respected 37 to most hated 63?

I am not advocating this, but you also need to consider if the bruins are on the outside come thanksgiving, you would have to think Marchand will be "trade" rumor fodder.

Not sure you want to put your C on a max 2 year term?

He should be

The last time him in Bergy on the ice together as Bruins. What a dynamic duo !!!

I was right near them. Made me cry.

Brad sets up many of the plays, speaks to the guys in stripes (and yes they listen), speaks to the coaches and players....He should wear the "C"

There is no other player anywhere near being a leader than Brad.

I love Marchy but he's not a captain. 4 A's please. Atleast this year out of respect to Bergy
Not trying to debate but why don’t you think Marchand is a captain? He’s been an assistant captain and Bergeron’s side kick for the last 12 or so years. He showed a ton of leadership last year I thought.

I hate guessing what athletes are thinking but it would seem anti what Bergeron would want to not have a captain this season. It seems like he’d want it to be marchy bc of the friendship and respect and it should be done day 1.

Marchand is the easy choice for captain, this shouldn't even be a discussion point. He is the longest tenured Bruin, won a SC, bleeds black and gold and is loved by his teammates, furthermore he is still a top player.

...sets up plays, is a leader on the ice, on the bench and according to those who are in the know in the room.

I won't be happy if the "C" isn't on Brad's jersey for next season.

ya agreed. Would help his long term cause for HOF too.

Give this man the C.

The big question is what they'll do with him NEXT deadline (not this deadline).

One last Bourque-mode trade somewhere west for one last cup?

I've said it before and pointed out all the times mid games why Marchand wouldn't be a good choice for Captain.

I am fine with him having an "A" but I don't think he's mature enough for the "C". Without Bergeron to reel him in I am not sure what to expect.

Rather not have a guy who multiple times in his career purposely tried to injure players wearing the "C" for Boston.
