He had 9 years of being a rat and he's only 4 years post-lick reformation. Sometimes once you see someone do so much shit you can't unsee it. Bergy to Marchy might be the biggest downgrade in captainship history.
But hey if he gets it I'm not going freak out. He's obviously a good guy. This shit's over anyway.

Has any team ever appointed someone with a similar history Captain of their team? Honest question, I don't know but somehow I can't see it. The Captain is the face of the team throughout the NHL, not just his own team.

With the Bruins you're talking about moving on from one of the most respected players & Captains this league has ever seen to someone who's been suspended 9-10 times & is in general considered a rat albeit one with elite skills??? Talk about whiplash!

Brad Marchand is a year younger than Sidney Crosby and Sid’s on the 2nd line in this guys lineup. If Sid is on the team then so is Marchy.
I don't think Crosby had double hip surgery though. . . Let alone say he wasn't where he was hoping to be (physically) months after the fact.

2026 has a lot of miles in front of him.

Remember this (when they nailed Bergy).

That's a fair argument. There was a time when I wanted this guy on plater.

IDK , as much as he has frustrated me I've learned to deal with him. He's gonna do dumb shit, I learned to live with it.

The dude is 5'9" in the land of the giants. He has to do what he had to do to survive. He's managed to draw a line in the sand. He's not know as a rat for nothing. He is very rat like. The ability to survive in a world where everyone is out to get you can't be overlooked.

As much as he annoyed me in the past I have learned to adore him. If he isn't wearing a C next season there is something wrong here. He has earned his stripes and any other option (Mac and Pasta ) simply haven't.

The thing with Marchand is they have called him out on everything so he was a repeat offender from the get go . Were as prima donna's Cosby ,Ovi etc seldom get called so little chance of being repeat offenders. Not dismissing what what Marchand has done but it bothers me to see others getting away with it.

Now there is a dose of reality.

Excellent post, it needs to be said.

Are folks really doubting Marchand as a captain now? The guys has given everything he has to this team his entire career. He's earned the C through blood, sweat and tears, literally. I mean literally. He's learned from the best in Chara and Bergeron who are still going to be around the team. There was a 5 year span, from 2016-2021 where he was a top5 player in the league, 4th in scoring in that span with 506 points in 420 games, he was 3rd in plus/minus at +125.

You're worried about the face of the team? How about that face being an undersized player with an oversized heart. How about a 3rd round pick who started his career on the 4th line and worked his way into a hall of fame career. A player who rises to every occasion, who plays big in big games, who's not afraid of anybody. He's what this team is supposed to be all about. That's the new face of the Bruins.

Such an excellent post.

On top of that....I doubt Canada takes 2 legacy guys who probably by that point are being gifted a spot over a younger better player. If they do take 1, I'm thinking it's the guy they say as the generational talent who had been the face of the league.

Besides everything positive that's been said here about Brad, he never bitched or whined about taking less on each and every contract that IMO he could've gotten more for. He is the original "I play hockey because I LOVE it, not for the money" even though he has still gotten rich doing it, he isn't at all greedy about it. Captain My Captain!
