I doubt that any team that has a choice between sending a player to the chl or ahl will send a player to chl.
If it’s better for the player’s development they will. Not all 18 year olds are strong, mature and capable of playing first line and PP in the AHL. If a player needs a year to gain strength and they want him producing offence with first line minutes and tons of PP time, a year in the CHL is better for him.

I don’t know where Lambert is at but the Jets will within the next week or two, and I’m confident they’ll do what’s right for his development.

Yeah man. The scouting staff said they'd probably prefer him in Seattle. But who knows. He doesnt seem the type to be afraid to... negotiate...

Maybe it's okay to be pleasantly surprised if he earns a spot. He better not end up 4th line in the AHL or scratched if he goes in a long slump. That shit wont happen in Seattle.

Got it backwards. Won't happen on the moose and might in Seattle.

I think it's more likely to happen in Seattle than in MB. Seattle is stacked, and are focused on winning and generating revenue. MB's mandate is to develop players for the Jets. Seattle really doesn't have any incentive to develop Lambert. He's not going to be with the team for 3 years, and this is the year they are going for it. They will play the players who give them the best chance to win, and they have a lot to choose from.

The Moose will have the primary focus of developing Lambert into an NHL player for the Jets. They will spend the extra time coaching him, and will be integrating him into the culture and systems of the parent club.

I would be gobsmacked if Lambert was healthied whilst on the Moose. They may reduce his role or icetime to build his confidence when he struggles, but it will be within the mandate of development, not winning.

This is all true... my main point is:

If there is even a chance of him spending time in the bottom six in the WHL... If it's even a concern, what does that say about his ability to contribute in the AHL in a top six?

If we think his junior team is stacked, what do we call an AHL team?

I think that is a good question, but I feel like the purpose for him being there from a team perspective is the important denominator.

His ice time and role in the ahl won't be solely predicated on winning, which I think is important.

Seattle is loaded with talent, but not so much that lambert would find himself on the 4th line.

Edit: I’ve seen lambert Play and I’ve seen the birds play several preseason games (and training camp). Imho he would fit nicely in a fluid 9 player rotation. I think he would look great on a line with Schaefer-Davidson-Lambert or , Crnkovic -Gustafson -Lambert.

Can he start with moose and move to Seattle later in the year?

I think Lambert might have earned himself another game in preseason, but I very much doubt he'll make the cut going into the regular season.

There are far too many players the Jets have to look at more because of contractual status or where they are in their development cycle. Lambert playing a year with the Moose I believe will be huge in his development.

This guy is going to be an NHL player for sure. He looked good last night. Would love to see a young, offensive player make the team, unlikely as it is.

That’s exactly what I said about Nic Petan a few years ago. Let’s temper expectations a bit and show a lot of patience.
Petan never had the physical attributes and skills Lambert has. His potential was more in his hockey IQ and ability to make passes. It just never materialized at the speed of the game at the NHL level.

It's just one game so no concrete conclusions should be drawn (obviously) but it seems like Lambert has the requisite physical tools to play in the league. It's just a matter of seeing whether or not he can figure out the game at this level. If he lands on the Moose, we may have the answer sooner than later

I think he's going to the A. And I wouldn't be shocked if he crushed it and they brought him up for a taste later in the year. That's not what I'm expecting. I just wouldn't be shocked.

Sill can't believe he fell to #30. Whatever else he's shown or not shown, he has that elite potential you just don't normally see at those draft positions. And whatever reason other teams passed on him, he blows the 10 picks or so ahead of him out of the water in my opinion, in terms of ceiling. Heck, I still prefer him to Geekie (Not Nazar or Kemmel), and McGroarty, Kulich, Snugg, Gaucher, Ohgren.... all terrific prospects. But I think Lambert's ceiling at least is higher than all of them.

Kids legit. Now he just needs to prove he has the personality and attitude to put it all together. And he'll be one of the best skaters in the league the minute he arrives. TBD.

I think it was more a case of teams trying to get a sure thing out of the first round. Lambert was looking pretty boom or bust. It ended up being serendiptious for the Jets as we had that 30th pick fall into our lap, and had already got our 'sure thing' in Rutger earlier.

I think you are right. All though, with NHL prospect success rate being SO low, I don't really get why so many teams would go for the "sure thing" since it never works out that way lol. IMO at least, that's what rounds 2-7 are for. Where you can still get sturdy 3rd liners. Not that the 1st round picks just have a sturdy 3rd liner ceiling, but that is likely where at least some will end up.

Either way, great for the Jets. And I think he's definitely ahead of the previously assumed schedule.
