And if any of y'all are dying for any more of the updated pretty player cards, let me know and I'll post 'em up.

None of the devils ones are particularly interesting imo, the guys who are good look good etc etc
Bratt's card (which I put up) is VERY interesting.

It shows a big jump in Defense (of all things) from last season and only a slight drop (not much) in offense (Finishing is also good).

@MasterofGrond ;)
He must have been working with Ben Lovejoy. There is no possible alternative explanation
One cannot deny Ben's impact on this talented young man.

I’d say I don’t think Sharangovich is a great PP option so I get him getting little time but Wood keeps getting rolled out there and I think he’s generally been actively harmful to the PP this year.

I know Wood brings some unique traits but other teams force the Devils to give him the puck on the PP knowing Wood will make poor choices with it.
Fifth most total time on the Power Play (81:25) and zero points. [I’m going by the time listed on Natural Stat Trick.]

Guys with less PP time and points:
Severson 61:16
0G 2A 2 points
Haula 56:21
1G 2A 3 points
Mercer 55:46
1G 3A 4 points
Zetterlund 32:22
1G 2A 3 points
Holtz 30:58
2G 0A 2 points
Siegenthaler 7:33
1G 0A 1 point

Forwards in the NHL with 45 minutes or more on the Power Play and zero points to show for it:
Anthony Beauvillier (NYI) 54:49
Miles Wood 55:57
Gustav Nyquist (CBJ) 73:21
Tatar 81:25
Joel Farabee (PHI) 91:22

That’s it, 5 guys out of 229 forwards. Maybe the PPI unit could produce more if we replaced the guys who can never produce on it.

Assuming that the 6+ we'll put up tonight will be enough for a win

Looking for a nice, relaxing, blowout for the boys tonight so we can have a good time in here. Hell, I'll even throw in a Haula goal to make it even more fun!

I think it’s fair to say he’s a good offensive player with defensive deficiencies. On a different team maybe they cover that up better?

It’s not about a team, Wood needs strong defensive players on his line to make up for him.

Bastian helps just like Noesen did back in the day. Wood with Mercer can be a problem just like Wood with Zacha often was.

The PP savior is on his way back. Bastian is close.

Maybe a different team will have a different collection of defensive players to play with him? On NJ he’s a fourth liner in any combination they’ve tried. A good one but a fourth liner. If he wants to get paid like a middle six guy I have a hard time seeing him fill that role even if I’d be disappointed if he left. The cap is real.

I loved Speed Racer given the paucity of quality animation available for kids in thr mid to late 1970s. I had no idea they were edited. I thought that jumpy weirdness was what made it anime. I remember one episode when they revealed the secret identity of Racer X.

Yes, they toned it down and simplified it. Plus it was scripted and dubbed very quickly, which is why the dialogue was so goofy at times. No cartoons like it were on tv in the US at the time. A lot of Anime imports were groundbreaking like that.

I also started liking yumyum (sweet) pickles , dont care what colour my socks are regardless what I am wearing for pants / shorts , I get excited when ensure is on sale at Walmart , I carry reading glasses in my pocket .
I was a Devils fan before Marty played … I remember watching Chico from when he played …

These things are subjective but when I watch old shows they don’t hold up for me. Last night I watched a few minutes of the old Wild Wild West. Loved that show as a kid. It was ok. Maybe half a step below Star Trek? The Aadans Family the Munsters thr Brady Bunch the Six Million Dollar Man and Bionic Woman Lost In Space I just can’t watch them with a few episode exceptions. There will always be a soft spot for the Omega Glory and for Lee Majors ripping off Sasquatch arm but overall they just don’t keep my attention anymore.

I’m not saying you should watch Speed Racer and I didn’t even like it a kid (I couldn’t stand the kid or the monkey). It was an action show for boys in Japan too.

American cartoons didn’t have the sophisticated direction of that show though (the best thing about it really), or its stylish design sense (the second best thing) or its violence/level of action (what American boys probably loved most about it). And it certainly had more complexity than anything American companies made.

Johnny Quest was as about as close as American TV animation got to that and that was a pretty unique, groundbreaking show too. (Not saying you should watch that now either lol).

I remember Johnny Quest. And his dad and Race Brannon. I was just a couple of years too old for that to grab me. My younger brothers liked it. I sort of put it in the same category as Scooby Doo of fake peril. Johnny may have been surrounded by snakes but you’d seen that in five other episodes. Still I agree it was a cut above most kid’s animation. I recall the Star Trek cartoon which had Shatner and Nimoy but I don’t recall any plots or dialogue.

I loved Speed Racer as a kid, looking back at it now it was so insanely violent, seriously holy shit.
Look at anything kids my age watched. Woody Woodpecker Tom and Jerry Bugs Bunny all were full of violence. Heck look at the stooges. I’m amazed we didn’t lose an eye imitating that.

Cartoony exaggerated violence wasn’t car crashes with human divers who didn’t get out of the car afterwards. Speed Racer was actually pretty blasé about the auto death tolls and this was at a time when one or more professional car racers died every year.

Japanese animation was heavily influenced by the American golden age of animation (~1930-1960) but US animation was moribund by the time anime came and revolutionized the form in the country that originally made it great.

That and the Spike & Mike - US Indie film/comics influenced revolution came from another end to completely change animation. And cable and big hard media sales really allowed it to flourish since the 1990s to the 2010s. (Now it’s streamers or death.)

I think some of the difference has to do with the culture creating the child entertainment . Bad things generally didn’t happen in US stuff. As you noted thr violence was cartoonish. If Speed Racer killed people (I don’t recall that but I guess I was blasé about it also) the kids in the original Willy Wonka also had bad things happen to them. Silly of course but I just can’t see those outcomes in a US story. There was a show I saw from England where grandma told the kids about an evil spirit that would come get them for some reason and it came and got them. I was a bit older when I saw that and was a bit surprised they killed kids and that was the end of the show. There are of course exceptions (there was a show about a kid who the mom wishes back from the dead but the kid sends back some sort of change king who ends up killing thr mom - maybe Night Galkery?) but my impression is we were kinder (no pun intended) in thr US with children’s entertainment. Of course our culture is much younger and we didn’t have a long period of time when we had to tell scary stories with dire outcomes so our kids didn’t go into the woods on the edge of town.

I can see Jack having a huge night. He has been on fire recently and he is playing against his good buddy Zegras. I’m sure they have a bet or bragging rights on the line and will try to outdo each other.
Imcoming double hat-trick 6 goal amd 3 assist game by Jack incoming . Hopefully Gibson starts . He has been dog shit. Their kid goalie Dostal is going to be good and Stolarz seems to pull good games out of his ass every once in awhile so I hope Gibson gets the start.
Hopefully we don’t look past the game and the boys come out and bury these guys right away. With Blackwood playing , it is a decent possibility that he gives up a early goal or two to deflate the team , so I’d like to see us score first and keep piling the pressure on them .
I need to pound some coffee here or Ill be asleep before the game starts . Which is pretty sad as I am in the MST time zone so its a 8pm start for me here…..
