Players seem pretty clear that they don't want to play in Toronto. Sad to see Bogo go. He'd rather take less money to get away from this clown show.
Bogo is very likely going to win a cup or two in Tampa. I really think it's going to be a disaster in Toronto soon. When this team doesn't make the playoffs which could be this year, the booing is going to start. Who will throw the first waffle?

Those idiots must have grown up by now, no?

We were a top 5-8 team that is bringing back the same defense and a better goaltending partner for Campbell.

Do you think losing Hyman is going to make us drop off so far that we miss the playoffs entirely? I get being down on the team because of how the year finished, but to assume the entire team will just drop off like that is silly.

Are you saying 33 year old Simmonds and 32 year old MUZZ is not enough muscle LOL?

After 100% support I am starting to lean towards the anti Dubas crew after seeing what it looks like is going to be rolled out this year

Again, I am not a Duby fan at all but I think he is actually learning something about making a balanced roster. He got Kampf for a shutdown (who cares if he scores) Danault type center for 1.5M...we have needed that player for 5yrs and never filled it properly. We can't have all the players wanting to be skilled scoring types. As Lou once wisely stated...its like an orchestra and everyone has their role to play. We are starting to get those specific type of guys now. I like what he did so far...no over-pay's on anyone really and good value. It's better than reclamation project after reclamation project because the player once flashed a bit of skill (Gally and Vesey)

huge loss, and at that cap hit we wont find anyone similar imo
Very understated loss, he was a rock. Unfortunately, he was never coming back despite reports there was discussion going on. But, Dubas could have secured a very suitable replacement in Schenn for the same price; or spent a little more for Hakanpaa [edit: apparently tried on Hak but chose Dallas].

Looks like they wanted it to be Jani Hankanpaa. I don't know where they turn too now

Man, that's disappointing... I honestly would have pushed it to 1.75 on 3 years. He is a really solid, 6'5 all day RHD.

Hyman is gone yes, so too is Bogo, possibly Galchenyuk, the bottom 6 is embarrassingly bad, AHL level bad. I think they squeak into the playoffs but it wouldn't surprise me if they miss either. Not playing in the North Division anymore.

They are in a much tougher division next season.

Liljegren is much, much better defensively than Sandin is at this point. He's also more physical.

Sandin offensively is great but he hasn't been great defensively, even at the AHL level.

Liljegren doesn't even get credited with as many hits as the slightly built Sandin. Lilly becomes a little rotating hourglass whenever faced with even the most minor of complications defending in the defensive zone.

He was in talks with Toronto but he said he wanted term and being offered the 3 years and going back to Tampa was too much to pass

taxes and sunshine win again

That's the big problem with Lilly...his CPU is too slow for the NHL. He has the raw skills and size to do it but he freezes up too often for me to believe he will ever play in the NHL. He seems to follow the same script every time he gets a chance. He comes out strong..looks good..makes one mistake and then starts making them constantly. His mistake can be in the 2nd game or the 8th game...but when it happens he goes to shit. They tried trading him instead of Durzi a few years ago and LA said no....

Liljegren looks way too nervous for the NHL. Then again, so does Holl unless he's slapped to Muzzin, so maybe they should try that with Tim

He'll be above average hauling the puck in routine NHL breakout situations. He's also good defending one on one rushes. But add minor complications and he freezes up like you call it. And this isn't with a league wide book on the player. I'd absolutely love him to prove us wrong.

I hope I am wrong..believe me I do but I think the time to get something for him has passed. He is so far behind other draft picks from his class its not funny. You don't think teams don't see that he has hardly played any games in the NHL in his D+3 year? That's not good especially since he has had ample time playing a North American game on a smaller rink while playing in the AHL. He has even stagnated there... he's a classic Nic Petan of defense IMO. Good in the AHL but not good enough in the NHL.

I guess the only option now is Gudbranson, which isn't good. Maybe they could swing someone like Bortuzzo in a trade

We could definitely use another veteran RD as insurance, but I also believe that Liljegren could be ready for a full time role if he's insulated properly. I would try him with Muzzin in training camp and to start the season and see how they fare.

Don't hate the idea of Holl with Sandin if we're stuck with no added veteran option by camp

After the kind of run Montreal had with their emphasis on big knuckle dragging D, you know there's going to be a premium on that player type.

It's true.

I've always felt kinda bad because my son played at a higher level of hockey than his shot or skating ability would predict.

I asked the coach year after year, why did you pick him ?

Almost the same answer every year.

Hardest worker on the ice. Excellent PK. very smart with the puck. Least selfish player - always makes the right pass and his team mates love him. Perfect shut down guy. Very coach able. Never complains about the role he's given.
